a character in “An Assassin's Pledge”, as played by KrazyTigger

Description

Name: Aliana (A-Lee-An-Ah) Duirk
Alias: Ali

Picture:

Image

Description: Aliana has a willowy, skinny figure that makes her look somewhat delicate in stature. It doesn't help that she barely brushes 5'2" in height either. However, beneath all of that is the toned and muscled body of a working girl. She has a wave of brown hair and when brushed it looks shiny and smooth. However, it is not often washed and brushed to perfection and is usually either tied into a tight braid or frizzy and rough. She has soft grey/blue eyes that have a hard edge to them and cheeks that are flushed pink most of the time.

Age: 24
Sex: Female
Date of Birth: September 34, 575 TE
Birthplace: Veilbrand
Current Location/Residence: Veilbrand
Ethnicity: Irlean
Height: 5'2" (just)
Weight: 117 lb.
Frame/Build: Slender and willowy.
Hair Color: Dark brown
Hair Length: Halfway down back
Eye Color: Bluey/grey, flecked with darker greys.
Complexion: Fairly tanned.
Voice Type: Mezzo-Soprano

Quirks: Aliana has a nervous tendency to play with her hair when she is worried or lying about something. If she fiddles with her hair then it is guaranteed that she isn't being wholly truthful.

She also has a birthmark on her left thigh, just above her knee. It's nothing more than a pink smudge about the size of an outstretched hand, but she is embarrassed by it.
Political Affiliation: No Political Affiliation.
Social Class: Middle class (farmer's daughter)
Occupation: Works on her father's farm.
Religious Beliefs: Goddecca
Family: Darius [Father and owner of farm], Judith [Mother], Karia [Baby sister] and Holden [Older brother].

Personality: Aliana is a naturally outgoing person and shows no fear or shyness around any kind of person, whether of noble birth or foul-mouthed, treacherous peasants. She is often sarcastic and has a very sharp tongue that she forgets to keep in check, which often gets her into trouble. Although, she likes to consider this a "witty" aspect to her personality and most of the time she can be quite funny with her remarks. Ali isn't afraid to speak what is on her mind and is very truthful about practically everything. She is not someone who deliberately goes out to hurt anyone's feelings, but it's just the way she is. If she does harm anyone's feelings then usually she is very regretful (even if she doesn't always show it). As sarcastic as she might be, she is not spiteful in any way.

Most of the time Ali is a calm and collected person and seems to have a blase attitude about most things that pass her by. However, she has a bit of a temperamental streak and if rubbed up the wrong way can be quick to snap. It does not happen often, but you had better not be close when it does.

It takes awhile for Ali to like anyone and she has a tough outer shell that she uses to repel people. That said, she can be very warm and open to those who she trusts and is fiercely loyal to those she cares about (especially her family). She has a wicked sense of humor and always manages to fight some kind of trouble around almost every corner. Playing pranks on her brother is her favourite past-time and she is quite mischievous.

Strengths: Doesn't let anything hurt her, intelligent, excellent horse rider, humorous.
Weaknesses: Temper, sarcasm, trouble maker (finder) and can't cook for anything.
Hobbies: Horse riding, singing and climbing.
Phobia/Fears: Enclosed spaces and death.

Equipment: A long dagger and a bow and arrow that she mostly uses for hunting, so it's a little crudely made.

Biography: Ali is the middle child in her family, though for a long time there was just herself and her elder brother. Ali's brother is three years her elder and has sole right to the farm upon which the family live. It is on the edge of the town, walking distance from the centre. Her family are well respected in the agricultural society and have excellent standing. The farm has been in the family for as long as anyone can remember and has been passed from father to son. Ali has no right to even try and claim the farm, though she would love to. Instead, it seems she is destined to be married off to the son of a similar family and become a farmer's wife, destined to bear children and cook. This is not what she wants.

All through her childhood Ali tried to keep pace with her brother. She worked the farm with him, she learnt to ride bareback on the farm horses, she practiced climbing trees. All of this was to make sure that she kept up with him in terms of looking after the farm and physically. The pair had a knack for fighting and she needed to keep on her toes if she wanted to beat him in more ways than one. Still young, she did not realise (and nor did her parents have the heart to tell her) that she would never inherit the farm. As they grew and matured it became obvious that Holden did not have as much love for the farm as Ali did, but he too begrudgingly accepted his Fate and that he would be passed the farm by his father. The fuss kicked up by Ali was phenomenal. She didn't speak to her parents for weeks and would often disappear into the woods that backed her farm.

Then Karia came along. It was so unexpected. Ali was fifteen and her mother had shown no signs of bearing another child (much to her husband's disappointment). Unbeknownst to the family, the child is not the fruits of their father's loins. But that is a secret that Judith will bear to her grave. Ali loves her little sister more than anything and it became the making of her. She calmed down somewhat and relaxed her bitter attitude about the farm. She refused marriage however and has turned down every man presented to her by her father. Although, rightfully she has no say, she is the apple of her father's eye and he would never push anyone upon her.

Ali still lives on her parents farm, helping out and taking care of her sibling whilst their mother works. Their father has long since retired and given Holden the farm. She does not mind her current position, as behind their father's back Holden gives Ali control of the farm whilst he sneaks into the village to visit his love. Plus, she has the freedom to escape whenever she wants to and often she visits the town.

So begins...

"I was once told a story as a child that a Demon fell in love with an Angel. The story ended with the Demon's soul becoming purified by the Angel's love and the two were able to live together as one... I know it was just a tale of fantasy, a children's bedtime story... but could such a concept truly become a reality?"

“Yes. This is an unfortunate disappointment but we will persevere. Lord Hieron is right, even without the Red-Eyed demon on our side you still have me. Either the Roda Ah K’hmt fear me, or they soon will. We will obtain some new clothes for myself and then we can consider our further course of action. A full-blown flight might be premature. After all we wouldn’t want to come across as cowards, now would we? Such a display of weakness might encourage a swift attack now we are still recuperating from our previous troubles,”

Linde couldn't help but admire Hadrian's confidence. Then again, most of it was will founded. Linde knew the true ferocity of both Te'i Sai and Roda Ah K'mht and if Hadrian believed it would be that simple to take retribution for their transgressions, he was dangerously mistaken. Still, if this bravado allowed him to keep his spirits up, then she would let him continue. Anything that could give a psychological boost was something that she would allow to pass. The others seemed to have a harder time finding the same boost, but she would do her best to find a way to help them all the same.

It was then that Linde came to a realization about their current situation and she straightened her back as her eyes opened a bit wider than normal while she scanned the immediate environment.

"... Something's not right." She whispered.

The animals had gone silent, not even an insect bothering to chime into the chorus of the night. The air was still and surprisingly warm given the time and the weather patterns which had taken hold recently. Linde continued to scan the surrounding area, and it seemed that some of the others had begun to do so as well. However, Linde could not seem to find anything at all despite the sensation that something was very wrong. It was that fact alone which concerned her the most. And then...

"You've made some interesting friends, Linde." Came a voice from the darkness.

Linde turned around facing the farm, but there was still nobody there. The voice had no source and seemed to be coming from everywhere around them at once. Linde frantically tried to locate the source, but it was no use. The sounds of footsteps around the group too seemed to echo all around as if by some black magic. Due to their location and the stillness of the night, there should have been no trouble locating the source of the sound.

It was at that moment that, as if from nowhere, a beautiful and wickedly serrated dagger made of the legendary metal Orichalcum appeared beside Linde's neck. As the blade made its appearance it was accompanied by the sound of a pure and pristine ring as it effortlessly sliced through the air and found its mark. Linde froze, not daring to move a muscle as a pair of ominous glowing red eyes appeared just over her shoulder. Slowly, the figure walked forward but a single step and his entire being finally came into view from the darkness.

His face was youthful and handsome with a strong and determined expression on his face. His body was tall, lean and muscular. Even his armor did little to hide just how muscular he truly was. His shoulders were broad and his glowing red eyes truly did look like something out of a Demon's legend. Within the red coloration was quite literally a swirling, churning, liquid-like material which glowed with its own source of inner light. Rather than a static pattern as everyone else had, his moved and changed every moment to something different but none the less frighteningly beautiful and eerily ominous.

He wore a simple pair of Orichalcum vambraces which protected the back of his hands and his forearms on top of a pair of black fingerless gloves. He wore a black jacket made of some kind of unknown material which did not reflect any light whatsoever. It simply absorbed it which was how he had blended into the darkness so well. Black pants and black boots too accompanied his wardrobe with gleaming Orichalcum greaves covering his shins. Around his waste was a belt with dozens of small throwing knives and poison darts, nobody daring to guess what kind of poison they contained. A second Orichalcum dagger identical to his first was on his lower back, still thankfully sheathed.

The Demon withdrew his dagger and sheathed it as he walked around to Linde's side and glared at her. She looked over at him with a weak smile to which he responded instantly by grabbing her arm and wrenching her around before planting the heel of his palm into her lower back and sent her flying nearly a dozen feet face first into the wall of the barn. Linde hit hard enough to crack many of the wooden planks in the wall before falling onto her back and rolling onto her side and curling into a ball while clutching her face in pain. The Demon let out a huff through his nose and walked a few steps towards her as he reached down and picked her up off the ground with his right hand. He had picked her up by the back of her neck as one would a stray dog or cat, and ordered that she let down her feet and stand up. She complied, albeit slowly and weakly with shaky legs as she stumbled forward after he let go.

When she turned around and removed her hands, her lower lip was bleeding profusely and a new cut had appeared above her left eye and was trickling blood down the front of her face. The demon shook his head as he then looked back and eyed the others one by one. It was obvious to the Demon that his actions had not struck many of these people as pleasant or acceptable, but he wasn't here for their approval. He was here for another matter and Linde was the source of it all. He crossed his arms in front of his chest and waited for Linde to stop trembling before he spoke again.

"What do you have to say for yourself?" He asked, clearly annoyed with her.

She used the back of her forearm to wipe the blood from her face as she looked at him.

"I have no excuses." She said quietly.

"Of course you don't. I trained you better than this."

"Yes... Yes you did. I'm sorry." She said.

"... What do you want Linde?" He asked.

Linde wiped away a bit of the blood on her face before speaking again.

"We are going to do what we can to cause trouble for Roda Ah K'mht. I know full well the power they possess, but I also know from our travels together that it doesn't take strength to interfere with and ruin their plans. If you have any information to give us to point us in the right direction, we might be able to also lend assistance to your own efforts as well. I realize I'm asking a lot of you, but it's for our mutual benefit. Please." She asked.

The Demon closed his eyes and was silent for a few moments, and then opened his eyes.

"So you wish to go on a suicide mission just to cause Roda Ah K'mht a few problems?" He asked as he cocked his head to the side.

Linde only nodded, not bothering to defend her position beyond that simple gesture. It seemed sufficient though, as the Demon suddenly changed his demeanor and cracked a smile. Not only that, but he also chuckled a little bit. It was not an intimidating chuckle either. No malice or ill content to be found within. Rather it was one of pride and admiration for the course of action which Linde was now determined to take. He may have been a rather cold Assassin, but he still knew how to recognize and respect people with true inner power.

"Very well. Finish whatever preparations you need and meet me in the city of Rai'Do in two days. I'll have the information you're looking for and more, but remember Linde that this information will come with a price." He warned.

Linde nodded, a small smile on her lips.

"Good." He said with a nod.

He looked over towards the others, once again assessing them one by one before his eyes fell on Hadrian.

"You, in the bloodied waste of fabric." He said as he pointed his finger at the noble.

"Your words earlier were brave, but foolhardy. If you wish to exude confidence, you should find a better outlet than money and the fame which your name brings you." He warned as he walked towards him.

"I cannot even remember how many of your ilk I have killed with a single stroke of my blade because they believed themselves to be safe in their fortune and the muscle that their money could buy. If you wish not to end up like the others, you'd best find yourself some real confidence that is now borrowed or contrived from false security."

To emphasize the point, the Demon pulled out a single gold piece and showed it to Hadrian. He then tossed it into the air. He swiftly drew and then sheathed his dagger in the blink of an eye as he held out his left hand and caught what was once a single piece of gold. Now, it lay in the palm of his hand in four pieces which he then dropped to Hadrian's feet.

"This is how much your money is actually worth today in the face of Te'i Sai and Roda Ah K'mht, Hadrian Kirkegard." He said as he turned away from the noble and walked back to face Linde once more.

"Linde, I would stay to greet your other friends but time is of the essence. I take it you can handle the rest from here." He said.

Linde nodded to him, and he in turn nodded back as Linde walked forward and embraced him in a hug. He looked a little uncomfortable not really knowing what to do, but when she let go he nodded to her and disappeared into the darkness once again. Linde let out a breath and then turned to the others as she wiped some of the blood off of her lower lip and spit out another small bit of it. When she faced everyone, she had a rather fiery look in her eyes.

"Well everyone, this is it. If we're going to do what we pledged to do, then it's time to move. Rai'Do is a day's walk to the northwest towards Triveila. If we start now we should make it there by evening tomorrow even with regular rest stops." She said.

Linde looked to Aliana.

"You have the horses which carry our supplies, so you will set the pace Aliana. Just take this road and split off to the west about eight miles ahead and we'll be on our designated path." She said as she cracked her neck and prepared to follow Aliana.

Hadrian resisted the urge to storm out when the demon arrived. His eyes kept darting from one corner of the room to the other, his hand ready to draw his weapon if needed. The voice startled him even more and made him jump. He once more judged the distance to the door. When the demon himself appeared he started to shuffle towards the door but paused in horror how Linde was thrown away. Either she wasn’t as skilled a bodyguard as she had claimed, or the Red-eyed Demon was simply incredibly good. For a second Hadrian feared for his life. It would be easy for the insane assassin to kill them all.

Luckily it was then the demon decided to hear Linde out. Hadrian just watched and prayed this would placate the assassin. Since a commoner like Linde wasn’t a skilled orator he had extremely low expectations, but the Red-Eyed Demon did seem to warm to the idea, even though he regarded it as foolish. Despite everything, Hadrian found this insulting. The Demon was still underestimating him. He’d soon know better, Hadrian was sure of that. For now though he was more relieved than annoyed. Hadrian relaxed slightly and let out the breath he had been holding.

Then the demon pointed at him and his heart skipped a beat. The attention of the assassin rattled him to the bone and he found all his previous haughtiness melting away, even more so when the demon walked towards him. For a second he considered throwing himself to the ground and grovelling before him, but years of training allowed him to suppress that instinct. He was a nobleman, not a peasant. Still, he could do little more than listening and witnessing how the demon destroyed the coin. He just nodded meekly, his eyes wide open and his hands shaking.

As soon as the demon had disappeared Linde took charge of things. At first he wanted to remind her she was still in his employment and he was her superior, but her fiery look made him think things through. If she was still capable of that after being slammed into a wall by a ruthless and deadly assassin, now might not be the time to discuss class and rank. Besides, he supposed he could also consider her as his mouthpiece. She was ordering these people around, allowing him to focus on more important matters, such as his conversation with the Red-Eyed demon.

Clearly the demon had a different view on the world. He wondered if the man was truly right. He shook his head in disbelief. Money and fame were the most powerful weapons there were. The demon must have been jealous. That made sense. He had been jealous and had hidden his jealousy behind some pretty words. Hadrian saw right through that though. The demon might have caught him off-guard this time, but soon they’d meet again and then Hadrian would be ready for him.

With that cleared up, he turned his attention back to the group, drawing himself up with self righteous indignation. The notion of him walking was ridiculous! He deserved a horse. He took a step forward and the noticed the four pieces that had once been a whole coin. He crouched down and collected the four pieces and bit on one of it. It was as real as most of his coins and realer than some. What an unfortunate destruction of money. As he rose he noticed his legs were a bit wobbly. He recalled the Red-Eyed Demon standing in front of him and the image shook him to the bone. He could have died there, murdered by a jealous assassin. Not trusting his voice he decided to just follow the rest. He could raise the issue of the horse later, when he felt a bit calmer.

Zelic and Sina

The siblings gave a brief introduction about themselves; their first names and what they did. Nothing too in depth or intimate. These people were after all, strangers not necessarily friends. Maybe if the duo ended up agreeing to traveling with them all more details would be shared. For now though, simple was for the best.

Like the others they waited patiently for the Red-Eyed Demon's arrival. The idol chatter had dwindled down and before long it was mostly silence that engulfed the group. That was until Linde gave her apologizes about the Demon not showing up. Zelic had actually been anticipating the other man, he was a legend after all and meeting him in a setting where death wasn't imminent was definitely something to behold. Sina on the other hand wasn't buying it. Sure she appreciated Linde and was thankful for the other woman's handiwork, but was it really possible for her to summon someone as powerful and untamable as the top assassin? That appeared to be the case.

Zelic noticeably jumped at the sound of a dagger slicing through the air. It was an unnerving one, something that had him instantly reaching for his own sword. Apparently their guest of honor had arrived. It didn't take the assassin long to inflict some violence onto Linde. It was appalling in Zel's book to inflict that type of violence onto anyone, especially to a woman. The actions appeared to be a strangely common or respected thing among the two though and after a few minutes of talking the medic actually managed to cause the Red-Eyed Demon to laugh.

The legendary warrior knocking Hadrian down a notch was quite the entertaining show for Sina. The way that the nobleman was shaking and that terrified glint filling his eyes as the assassin left resulted in Sina having to suppress laughter. It was a sight to behold, the pride and satisfaction she left as Hadrian was somewhat humiliated outweighed the fear she felt for the Red-Eyed Demon.

As Linde handed out their ordered, Zelic helped his sister to her feet, before moving over assist Aliana with the horses (if she needed any that was). Sina on the other hand, slowly made her way over to Linde, her own pack in hand. She dug through it for a moment before puling out some salve. Bandages would have been better, but a busted lip and a head cut weren't exactly easy to wrap up. "Here, you might want to seal those wounds up. One of a woman's best weapons is a pretty face." Sina said, handing the small container to the other female. There was a smile on her face that went along with the teasing words.

"I was once told a story as a child that a Demon fell in love with an Angel. The story ended with the Demon's soul becoming purified by the Angel's love and the two were able to live together as one... I know it was just a tale of fantasy, a children's bedtime story... but could such a concept truly become a reality?"

Linde did a quick check to make sure that everyone would be ready to move as there was no time to waste. If they weren't there to meet the Demon, he'd move on and forget about helping them. It was then that Linde was approached by Sina who offered her some salve and bandages.

"Here, you might want to seal those wounds up. One of a woman's best weapons is a pretty face." She said.

Linde chuckled and accepted the offer.

"Thank you Sina. I appreciate the assistance." Linde said gratefully.

Linde took a moment to clean her lip and forehead before applying the bandages around her head and on her lip before doing one final check to make sure that everyone was ready to go. When she was sure they were, she asked Aliana to lead them onward to Rai'Do. The pathway they followed was empty and peaceful which was a nice change of pace from the city they'd just come from not but a few hours ago. The quiet and serene appeal of nature was always a welcome atmosphere in Linde's eyes. The trip was uneventful, thankfully, and no problems arose along their route save for one or two differences of opinion breaking out. Luckily they quelled rather quickly and the group was able to move on.

They spent the night outdoors camping with what supplies they had. Linde and the others were able to make a fire and settle in for the night, though the comfort of sleeping bags and such eluded them. Still, the quiet of the night persuaded them that it was safe to rest. When they awoke the next morning free of death and destruction, Linde took it as a good sign that they hadn't been followed. She was no expert on tracking and counter tracking, but she knew enough to recognize that they were in the clear for the moment. It took another few hours of travel before they reached Rai'Do, but when they did it was oh such a welcome sight.

The city was clean and lively with hundreds of people bustling about their busy lives as Linde and the others entered the city. Linde made the suggestion that they temporarily split up to gather more supplies and make reservations to stay the night as they were in need of a true night's sleep after the night of impromptu camping in the woods. Linde decided to accompany Hadrian, as she had promised to buy him new clothes while the others were left to their own devices. Linde followed Hadrian at a respectful distance of about three paces to give him space to move and so that nobody got the wrong idea. Standing within two paces was usually reserved for either a family member or one's wife, so standing at three made sure that everyone knew it was professional and not personal. Linde had no intention of giving anyone the idea that she was involved with him beyond the simple escort.

Aliana smiled gratefully at Ace when he crouched beside her to help with the packing. She gave him a quick searching look, questioning silently whether or not he was okay. But she quickly returned to the task at hand, packing food and essentials that they would need. She was so consumed that she almost missed the commotion behind. Whipping round, she stood up to be faced with the Red-Eyed Demon in her kitchen. Eyes wide, she watched as he addressed Linde and then threw her across the room. Releasing a gasp, she launched herself forward, forgetting for a moment exactly who they were dealing with. Halfway across the kitchen, she remembered and stopped herself, holding herself in check. Instead, she backed up a few steps. Biting her bottom lip, she watched with concern on her face, but he did not seek to strike Linde again. But he did turn towards Hadrian and Aliana couldn't help but allow a small, satisfied smirk cross her lips. It was good to see him put back in his place.

When the Red-Eyed Demon had left, Linde began to address the group again. Sina beat Aliana to the mark in regards to asking after Linde's health. Nodding when she was given instructions, she went and saddled up the horses, packing on all the bags and leading them via their reins. She didn't allow any of the others take control of the horses, as both were skittish around newcomers. Aliana kept them moving and ensured they were cared for as they moved all.

The journey was quite uneventful, though Aliana barely slept when they paused for the night. In the morning, they were off again and soon they reached the city. A great weight lifted from her shoulders as they entered the boundary of the city. When Linde suggested that they split up, Aliana was somewhat reluctant, but she kept her mouth shut, especially if it meant that they would be separated from Hadrian for a few hours. He really was a pain in the butt and it would be nice for some peace and quiet from him. Nodding her head, she glanced at the brother and sister.

"Hey, Zelic, do you want to come and find a suitable Inn with me? Perhaps Ace and Sina can find us some more supplies in the market? Unless the pair of you would rather stick it out together? I really don't mind." With a shrug, she glanced at the horses. "We'll need somewhere with a stable, as I don't particularly want to cart these two around with us all the time. It would be good for them to have a rest as well." Tugging slightly on the reins, she stopped the two horses from chewing on some bushes close by.

It didn't take long for the day to slip away to twilight with the sun fading beyond the horizon. Linde and the others all managed to find their way to a place called the Lion's Head Inn where everyone gathered in a single room rented by Aliana and the others during the day. Once they were all present, Linde told them that they were all going for a stroll. She led them outside and through several dozen alleyways using what little counter tracking skills she had to make sure they weren't followed and then led them to the outskirts where a small abandoned hut was located. Once Linde did a final head count, she let out a small sigh of apprehension as she turned to address everyone.

"Alright... A word of warning everyone. If you have questions, make them short and make them count. He has little patience for questions with obvious answers and even less for those which don't pertain to the mission ahead." She warned.

Linde knew from experience that the Red-Eyed Demon didn't like questions aimed in his direction, but she also knew that there'd be no choice but to ask them since this group was new to the fight against Assassins and would need to know what they were in for. She opened the door and everyone walked inside one by one. The Red-Eyed Demon was leaning against the wall in the back of the room, his eyes glowing ominously in the darkness as everyone gathered near the entrance and waited for the information which he was going to present to them. He watched them for a few minutes and then walked forward a few steps and sat down in a chair a few feet from the group.

"So, you've come." He said quietly.

Linde nodded, and he nodded back.

"Very well, then allow me to provide the information you asked me for last time." He said as he crossed his arms in front of his chest.

"Roda Ah K'mht's movements have been rather unusual. I must admit that even I have had difficulty figuring out exactly what they're doing, but I have recently come to an understanding about it. When I last saw you, your goal was to become a thorn in their side and do whatever you could to get in their way. Correct?" He asked as he looked at Linde, who nodded at him.

"Well I have some bad news for you... If you want to become a thorn in their side, then you need to head right into the lion's den and face them head on."

Linde's eyes widened and she looked like she was about to say something, but she refrained at the last moment as she put her hand over her mouth.

Hadrian froze when the Red-Eyed Demon appeared. Memories of their previous encounter returned as his fist closed around the four pieces of the coin the demon had so casually destroyed. He held them so tightly the blood drained from his hand. His bravura disappeared and even his new clothes couldn’t provide him with sufficient confidence. Then Hadrian forced himself to remember the demon was jealous and there was no need for him to be afraid. If anything, the demon should fear him. He adjusted his hat slightly so the feather was even more noticeable. The demon might have an impressive presence but Hadrian had an impressive hat.
When the demon continued to speak Hadrian decided to try to regain control of both himself and the conversation. The Demon’s suggestion was outright preposterous. Hadrian preferred to slowly get accustomed to their new job as enemies of assassins. While he didn’t value his companions that much, there was no point in just throwing away their lives. He cleared his throat and raised his voice ever so slightly. He wasn’t feeling confident enough to start shouting just yet.

“Excuse me, but is this truly a good idea? I don’t want to come across as negative or overly cautious, but striking at the heart of the Roda Ah ‘K’mht? It seems a bit too rash, no? Don't misunderstand me, we could do it should the situation warrant it, we are after all an extremely talented group, but I wonder whether it’s actually advisable to do so. Might it not be better if we take our time to slowly get acquainted with our enemies before we meet them head on and on their home ground? It’d be a shame to waste our skills and time on a suboptimal all-out attack that would also cost us our anonymity. We still know so little about the Roda Ah K’mht, unless of course you could share some enlightening insights?” he asked, eager to see whether the demon would be willing to part with some of his no doubt unique knowledge of the Roda Ah K’mht. Without expert knowledge on the Roda Ah K'mht their odds were a lot worse.

A second and even more worrying idea popped into his head at that time. Maybe the Red-Eyed demon wanted to send them to their deaths with this mad plan, a way to get rid of the mighty Hadrian Kirkegard. Hadrian didn’t voice his suspicion. He wouldn’t want to give the demon any funny ideas or let him know Hadrian was onto him. In both cases it would be preferable to remain silent on the matter and try to uncover the Red-Eyed demon’s ulterior motives. He’d have to take all his advice with a grain of salt from now on. While the demon would have to be a fool to kill of an asset as valuable as Hadrian, it was better to stay on the safe side. Jealousy could poison the mind after all.

"I was once told a story as a child that a Demon fell in love with an Angel. I know it was just a tale of fantasy, a children's bedtime story... but could such a concept truly become a reality?"

“Excuse me, but is this truly a good idea? I don’t want to come across as negative or overly cautious, but striking at the heart of the Roda Ah ‘K’mht? It seems a bit too rash, no? The Demon's eyes slid slowly over to land on Hadrian's as he finished speaking. Linde saw the change in the Demon's eye and took a single protective step in Hadrian's direction. While she knew that protecting him if the Demon wanted him dead was foolhardy, taking that step would at least let the Demon know that she considered Hadrian a valuable asset worth keeping for the time being. Thankfully, the look in the Demon's eye softened somewhat before he chose to speak again.

"I can understand your skepticism Mr. fancy feather, but you seem to have jumped to conclusions about my previous statement so allow me to clarify." He said, taking a step forward towards Hadrian. He smiled at him for a moment before looking to the feather on his hat and giving it a flick. The flick launched the feather out of its proper place and sent it floating down to the floor as the Demon chuckled to himself before turning his back to Hadrian and going to sit down in a nearby chair.

"Before I explain my previous statement, allow me to put your hearts at ease if even for a brief moment. Roda Ah K'mht have no home ground here in Cre' Est. They are what you might call an exotic species here, having traveled from the neighboring continent of Mar' Valoa to reach this land. Their presence has grown tremendously over the last decade, but they none the less remain without a permanent base of operations. I normally consider Te'i Sai to be useless, but I must admit that they have indeed done a fine job of keeping Roda Ah K'mht at bay and preventing them from gaining a permanent and defendable foothold." He said, casting a rather sinister smile at Hadrian.

"Now, on to my previous statement. When I said you must head right into the lion's den, I did not mean that you must prepare for a foolhardy assault. Instead, you must use what I am information I am about to provide you and get right to work. No matter what you do, Roda Ah K'mht will hunt you down once it realizes what you're doing. Throwing you right at their heart would only expedite the inevitable, as I don't expect many of you to survive this in the long run. However, with the information I will provide you along the way there is a much greater chance that you will live to see the coming of the new year in one piece. That has to be worth something, right?" He asked rather innocently.

The Demon stood up and walked over to Linde as he reached behind his back and pulled out a single small scroll and handed it to her. Linde was rather surprised, but at the same time she was grateful to have been the one to receive such a gift. Coming from him, even something so small and simple had to be of great importance to their mission ahead.

"This is a map to the location of one of Roda Ah K'mht's storehouses. I managed to lift this from one of their less attentive operatives just before I came to find you. If you can reach this location and burn the building to the ground, you'll destroy a rather sizable weapons cache they've been using to supply their operatives here in this region. It might not seem like a big deal, but crafting quality weapons for the numbers they possess takes a great deal of time and effort which will slow them down. I will warn you that it won't stop them, but all the same this will hamper their immediate plans and force them to change tactics which should give me time to figure out how to guide you further if you succeed with this first mission."

The Demon took a step away from Linde and regarded her with a serious look.

"Be mindful that there will likely be a minimum of two guards at this building. You'll need to get creative to bring them down and safely complete your mission as I will not be there to assist you."

The Demon then cast a glance to the rest of the group.

"This next piece of advice goes for all of you: Cast aside your anger and be patient. In a war against enemies such as Roda Ah K'mht you cannot let their actions, be they past or present, affect you in mind, body or spirit. Their size, power and reputation... Forget it. Their skill and prowess in battle... Disregard it. From now on you must clear your minds and cast aside anything and everything you know about them or have seen them do. Holding onto anger for what they did in Cre' Est will only slow you down and make you vulnerable to their mind games. As harsh and horrible as it sounds, that's all that display in Cre' Est was: a mind game. It has already effected the minds of the common people, and you must not succumb to the same fate or you will lose yourself to it."

He looked back to Linde and regarded her once more with a serious expression, but one that held a silent respect.

"Take great care on your way and do what you can to accomplish your mission within the next six days. The location is close by so it shouldn't take that long, but if you find it difficult to proceed then use that extra time I'm giving you to sit back and observe so that you can come up with the safest plan of attack possible. I must leave you all now, as I have important matters of my own to attend to. You should leave at first light and spend the rest of the evening resting and mentally preparing for what is ahead."

Linde nodded at the Demon with a smile as he turned and walked back to sit in his chair as he turned to look at the others while Linde opened up the scroll to look at the map he'd given her. When she saw the map's content and where it was marked, her heart sank.

"It's... back in Cre' Est... Not far from where my clinic used to be..." She said softly.

The Demon only nodded slowly as there were no words to be said in response.

Things turned upside down sooner than expected. The demon appeared from nowhere, and to Ace's surprise he wasn't as scary as people believed. Or so he thought. His impression suddenly changed as the Demon violently threw Linde to the floor, with no disregard to anything else. Linde showed no weakness, in-fact it was the complete opposite, she showed strength at full force.

Choosing to be quiet was probably a very smart thing, one wrong thing and Ace could end up dead within a second, and although the interchange with Hadrian amused Ace, he chose not to show it. After the demon disappeared Ace checked up on Linde, making sure she was okay before packing the rest of the things.

Everything moved so fast, Ace could not say a word, he remained quiet and attentive. Ace had a lot going through his head the entire walk to the Rai'Do, he wanted revenge, and even more he wanted to have the power to do something about it. Back home Ace was considered a good and agile swordsman, but against a Roda Ah'Khmt he was close to nothing, and compared to the Demon, he was non-existent.

Ace's entire life consisted of slacking off and having fun, never taking responsibility for his own action's and never actually having something to be proud of. Although his life was convenient, he hated it. He hated the fact that everything was given to him because of his status, and that he was a noble with no real part in the family. The most responsibility Ace took upon his shoulders is helping the people around his home city, and making their day little by little, maybe this was his chance to redeem himself? If so he had a lot to learn.

When the finally arrived it was a relief, and it was didn't bother him to split up. Linde went with Hadrian, so that Hadrian can fulfill his hearts desire and acquire new clothes. Aliana and Zelic went off to find a place to stay the night, and Ace and Sina were in charge of getting supplies. He had a chance to get to know Sina better, and while at it get something useful for the group. Rai'Do was a peaceful little place, or at least it seemed as such after the attack on Cre'Est. They made their way to the market, which seemed to be a notch louder than anywhere else in this City.

Priorities came first, and Ace had a bit of coin to spend. Food and medicine came first, than Ace thought it would be good to buy everyone new clean clothes, even if they weren't as fancy as Hadrian would've liked. Ace knew that Hadrian's selfish motives would drive him to buy expensive clothes for himself, and Linde would just pace behind. He let Sina pick the clothes for herself, Linde, and Aliana while he bought for himself and Zelic.

After an hour or two in the market they made their way back to Lion's Head, which was a quiet little inn. Ace gave the supplies to the group, and to not surprisingly Hadrian had probably spent a good amount of gold on his clothes. But honestly it looked silly, considering the situation.

They were than led outside by Linde, and into an old looking hut. "Alright... A word of warning everyone. If you have questions, make them short and make them count. He has little patience for questions with obvious answers and even less for those which don't pertain to the mission ahead." Ace would have to think carefully before saying anything, most likely he would keep his mouth shut and his thoughts to himself. At least for the time being.

The confrontation went along as usual, with the Demon saying things that didn't come as a surprise. But then came along one of Hadrian's stupid remark's, that in any situation would her him slaughtered on the spot, the Demon kept his cool, more so than earlier in the day. As weird as it may be, the mission was sort of exciting to Ace, he finally let his tactical Hieron mind come into play as tactics rolled through his brain. This wouldn't be easy, even with two guards. If they made too much noise, the guards would kill them one by one with no difficulty.

"It's... back in Cre' Est... Not far from where my clinic used to be..." Ace eyes widened as he saw Linde looking at the map, they would have to go back to where it started. Ace regained his composure, there was no time for second guesses, he was ready to go, ready to do what he can to cause the most trouble to Roda Ah'Khmt. He was ready to show them that they should've killed them back in Cre' Est, because Ace now knew that he isn't going to give up. He put his hand on Linde's shoulder, and gave her a look of approval, comfort, and somewhat questioning of what she wants to do next. She was the most connected to Cre' Est, to her it would be harder than anyone else in the group.

Aliana had found the Inn. And now they were all gathered there, on the way to meet the Red Eyed Demon. She nodded shortly when Linde spoke to them, agreeing with the doctor woman. She did not live under a rock. Her mother had delighted in telling her the stories about the Demon and warned her seriously to stay out of his way. Biting her lip, she stopped herself from laughing out loud at the thought. Oh if her mother could see her now, what would she think? That Aliana was undoubtedly sick in the head. Part of her was starting to believe that as well. This whole idea was insane, but it was too late to back out now. She wouldn't leave the others and she wanted revenge, just as they did.

Keeping towards the back of the group, she listened with rapt attention. It went much the same as the previous conversation, but Aliana picked up some new details that caused her to frown. It was sounding more and more insane as time went on. Letting out a huff of frustration, she opened her mouth to ask a question, but Hadrian beat her to it. And once again, he almost made her snort with laughter. However, she kept herself in check, instead shaking her head ever so slightly. What had they ever done to find themselves lumbered with this idiot? Aliana was somewhat disappointed that the Demon kept himself calm and didn't launch an attack on Hadrian. She would have given anything to see him beaten up and taught a thing or too. But alas, it was not to be. Perhaps another day.

"It's... back in Cre' Est... Not far from where my clinic used to be..."

Aliana's attention snapped rapidly to Linde, as her eyes widened slightly. They had to travel back the way they had come? Aliana saw now that this meeting had been a test. It had been a test to see if they would come, to see if they were serious about it. She had to respect the Demon. He was a tricky one to work around, but they were doing alright. Giving Linde a reassuring smile, she stepped up beside Ace as well and patted her arm.

"We can do this..." She whispered, her eyes looking directly at the Demon. "We've got this far, we can carry on." Nodding her head, she dragged her eyes away to Linde and smiled brightly. "We are in this together. No backing out now."

Hadrian followed the trajectory of the feather with his eyes wide open. When it hit the ground he kept staring at it as the Red-Eyed Demon continued to speak. The sheer nerve of pulling a stunt like that baffled him. The Red-Eyed Demon was definitely not a man of noble origin. He resisted the urge to snort indignantly and just picked up the feather and brushed the dirt off it. As soon as the demon had taken his leave, Hadrian put it back on the hat and gave everyone a threatening glare, hinting at a horrible fate awaiting anyone foolish enough to repliace the demon’s stunt. As for the demon himself, he should be grateful for Hadrians composure. Before he wouldn’t have let such an insult slide but lately he had gotten used to all sorts of slights. There’d be a reckoning one day, but for now Hadrian was content to bide his time. He was a proper noble and knew the importance of doing the right things at the right time. He sighed as he heard Linde identify the location.

“Back in Cre’ Est? Wonderful,” he mumbled with clear distaste. After all the trouble they’d gone through to get here, they had to go back. The demon was not only ill-mannered, he was also a worthless planner. How the man had managed to survive for so long was a clear mystery.

“I guess we have no choice but to go back. First things first, I want everyone to know that I will not walk that distance again. Come first tomorrow I will buy a horse to fight the discomfort of a long trek. My reputation has been sullied enough already without another march across these lands. Besides, it is in our best interests to get me at the scene of the approaching battle as fit as possible so I can easily brush the enemy aside,” he added as he positioned himself next to the group. He drew himself up once more.

"Fear not my companions. The time for vengeance is near. I can already taste the taste of victory and it resembles the enemy’s blood!” he flourished his rapier with a content smile on his face, even though he almost stabbed his own eye out in the process. He stowed the blade once more, not wanting to push his luck, and sat down in the seat the Red-Eyed Demon had used before.

“And since we are honourable adversaries, I guess we will provide them with a fitting funeral pyre,” he concluded with a wolfish grin. The idea of putting the torch to their buildings filled him with joy, though it’d be a shame to let all those weapons go to waste. If possible he’d like to get his hand on a couple of those as trophies. The only downside was the smoke. he finally had new clothes and now they'd be exposed to such a horrible smell, a smell that'd take ages to get out of his clothes.

Zelic and Sina

From the very beginning the two siblings listened intently to the words of the Demon. He spoke with experience and confidence, but not so much so that he came off as cocky. His reasoning was logical and his advice would benefit them all in the upcoming battles. Sina and Zelic sat at their own table, probably the only two that remained seated, and just thought.

To break the two Maliq siblings up into categories, Sina would be the brains and Zelic was the brawn. With most jobs and enemies the two flourished in accomplishing the tasks set before them. This wasn't just some petty bandits who were terrorizing the countryside and passing caravans though. This was the Roda Ah K'mht and both were quite sure that it would take the entire collective group and a sound strategy to take down the two guards that the Demon predicted would impede their mission.

Zelic was silent as the others went about agreeing to the task. One line in particular grabbed his attention as Aliana spoke, "We are in this together. No backing out now." That was entirely true. Both he and Sina believed that even if some of the group wanted to leave there was a high chance that they'd meet a death soon after departing. A good tactician made sure that there was as little chance as possible for his or her plans to somehow get back to the ears of the enemy. Those who left were a liability and they were sure that the Demon wouldn't allow them to get far.

Hadrian's 'speech' greatly bothered Zelic. The words were very inappropriate for what their group would be going through very soon. The swordsman stood, his chair letting out a screech as it was quickly pushed away from him. His dark eyes landed on Hadrian. "This is not a game." His voice deep and serious. "You speak of revenge? What did he say not but two-seconds ago? Thoughts of revenge must be cast from your mind or you will be the first to die." Zelic took a few steps closer, if Hadrian was going to put Sina in any more danger than she was already in, the swordsman wouldn't hesitate to silence the noble himself.

"That superior and cocky attitude will lead you to deaths door so quickly you, it'll be too late to change anything.I speak from experience. There is always someone more skilled than you, it takes a calm mind and a sound strategy to even pose a threat to them." Zel's hand travelled to the thick and jagged scar over his neck, rubbing their as he remembered his brush with death. "I can easily kill you right where you stand Hadrian. If you have no hopes for defeating me with that rapier of yours how in the world can you hope to 'taste victory' if I'm not even a quarter as good as the lowest ranked Roda Ah K'mht assassin?"

Zel turned to face the others, face serious as he looked each of them over. "I think the first thing we need to do is assess the skills that everyone possesses. Every person here has a strength and a weakness and once we know that we can hopefully concoct some sort of strategy that will keep all of us alive."

"I was once told a story as a child that a Demon fell in love with an Angel. The story ended with the Demon's soul becoming purified by the Angel's love and the two were able to live together as one... I know it was just a tale of fantasy, a children's bedtime story... but could such a concept truly become a reality?"

The Demon's cold red eyes slid from person to person as the arguments began. It didn't take any large amount of the Demon's attention or intellect to know that Hadrian thought to ignore him and the advice he gave. As it was very often with nobles, they were snobbish enough to believe that the opinions or even the knowledge of those who they considered "beneath them" was of little to no worth. Despite the Demon's reputation and skills, Hadrian considered himself superior in some way and the Demon's mouth cracked into a smile as one of the other men approached him and began to lecture Hadrian.

Linde gave Zelic a pleading look to have him back down as arguments were not going to serve them here. Instead, she stood between Hadrian and Zelic with hands outstretched to calm them and keep them from trying to skill one another while looking over at the Demon.

"Thank you..." She said, stopping before saying a word that was obvious tried to escape her lips.

"It's time we returned to the Lion's Head Inn everyone. We can better assess our company there where we have more room and more comfortable space to work."

The Demon stood from his chair and couldn't help but smile at Linde as he watched her struggle to keep her group together. It wasn't really a good sign if it was this easy for them to fight with one another, but Linde was obviously determined to handle the situation in her own way. That much, he could respect. Still, he cast a knowing glance at Hadrian before turning and leaving through a door hidden in the shadows behind him. Linde watched him as he exited and heaved a sigh of relief that nothing out of hand had taken place yet.

"Okay... Shall we then?" She asked, gesturing towards the door.

Ace sighed at Hadrian's speech, yet again nothing useful came out of his mouth. It's people like him who give a bad name to nobles everywhere, but being a noble himself Ace knew how to deal with it. He looked at Aliana and Sina, whose patience seemed to be running out, but Zelic took the stand. This was not the time for arguments, the only way this can work is if they act like a team, and maybe than Hadrian can prove his usefulness... maybe. Aces first impression of Zelic was that he was a fighter, and his current actions proved even more so.

"It's time we returned to the Lion's Head Inn everyone. We can better assess our company there where we have more room and more comfortable space to work."

Ace took another look at the Demon as he left the hut, leaving the group to deal with their current dilemma. It was obvious that the demon had no hope in the groups success, a test is merely a test. If they were to succeed, harder and scarier things were to come. Determination was key, and after all recent events Ace had plenty.

"Okay... Shall we then?"

Ace nodded as he went out the door and followed the group back to the inn. Maybe a couple of drinks will get their minds off of things. The walks was short, and when the entered the inn they took a table suitable and private enough for a discussion. Before they started Ace ordered everyone a round of drinks. Ace cleared his throat as he decided to take begin the talk that may as well be their last. He took a last sip from his mug and put it besides him.

"Linde, should we take a look at the map again?"

Aliana had to bite back the nasty comment that was on the tip of her tongue when Hadrian piped up with his nonsense again. Hadn't he been listening? Revenge was not the answer. It would leave them blind with fury and then where would they be? Shaking her head, she deliberately turned her back on him. Even though the Demon spoke of fighting among themselves causing their downfall, she could never and would never like Hadrian. He was one of those people who instantly caused her hackles to raise. Thankfully, Zelic too control of that situation and spoke to Hadrian. Aliana thought what he was saying was completely fair and she felt a jolt of respect towards Zelic for handling it so well. If they could just stick together, they didn't necessarily have to like everyone in the group, but teamwork was the key here.

"It's time we returned to the Lion's Head Inn everyone. We can better assess our company there where we have more room and more comfortable space to work."

Aliana nodded absently, as she followed Ace's gaze towards the Demon who was leaving. She could see he had no faith in the group. Perhaps this was even a joke to him. Perhaps he was sending them to their deaths. It didn't matter. They were in at the deep end now and there was simply no chance to turn back to their normal lives. They wouldn't last one single day if it was ever discovered what they had been planning.

Deep in thought, Aliana followed the rest of the group blindly. She didn't regret her choice to come. In fact this whole thing had been sparked by her anger and her need to find peace. If she had kept her mouth shut, would they be in this dilemma now? Probably. Linde was pretty set on what they were going to do and now that the others had the idea in their head they seemed very determined as well. Eventually someone would have suggested it and they would still be there. Sighing, she entered the Inn and joined everyone at the table, taking the drink that Ace offered gratefully.

"Linde, should we take a look at the map again?"

Clearing her throat slightly, she shook her head gently. "I think Zelic was right, we need to assess ourselves before we put any plan into action. I think you're right Ace...But after we have our strengths and weaknesses out in the open." Shrugging her shoulders, she settled in her seat. "Why don't we start with Hadrian?" She looked pointedly at the noble, crossing her arms across her chest.

Hadrian was slightly surprised by everyone’s sudden enmity towards him. His speech had clearly not had the desired effect. Truth be told he was glad Linde interfered and suggested they went to the inn. He was not in the mood to battle Zelic just yet. In the inn he leaned back in his chair and decided to lay low for a while. He needed to revise his tactic. He had always believed everyone reacted well to rousing speeches, but not even his fellow noble seemed to have liked it much.

These people were all very strange and unlogical. He missed his servants and friends at home. They would have drawn their blade with him and rushed off towards the fortress without all this discussion, doubting and planning.
His ponderings were interrupted by Aliana. To his surprise she indicated she wanted him to assess himself first. At least they still seemed to defer him as their leader despite their previous differences. He was relieved, despite their hostility she at least still seemed capable of thinking objectively.

“My strengths and weaknesses you say? Well, let me see. I am a formidable warrior as many a straw dummy can testify. My tutors always said I was like a magician but instead of a wand, I use a rapier. I am also blessed with a great intellect, both the result of the finest education money can buy and natural aptitude. I have access to a large amount of funds, though I will need to requisition more soon. I have no doubt my father will send it to me quickly though so that is not a problem at all. I am a skilled orator and can easily mingle with other nobles, though I guess that will not prove too handy for the job ahead,” he paused for a second, thinking hard if he possessed any weaknesses at all and if so, which ones.

“As far as my weaknesses go…I am too generous with both my money and my affection. I am a most honourable person so when faced with ruthless fighters I have to rely on my skill to get the upper-hand against their peasant trickery. While superior skill and intellect usually suffice, it renders me unable to defeat my opponents in mere seconds and requires a bit more time. I am sure the assassins will also rely on trickery so while you can count on me to quickly eliminate them, it might not be as fast as you could and should expect. Finally I’m not really at home in this country. Since I hail from Veilbrand I never really bothered to make a study of lesser nations. And that’s about it I guess,” he concluded with a smile, “who is next?”

"I was once told a story as a child that a Demon fell in love with an Angel. The story ended with the Demon's soul becoming purified by the Angel's love and the two were able to live together as one... I know it was just a tale of fantasy, a children's bedtime story... but could such a concept truly become a reality?"

Linde listened to Aliana ask Hadrian to speak first, and she knew that would be a mistake. However, she let Hadrian speak regardless, and when he asked who was next she raised her hand as she sat down in a chair of her own and looked around the group with a slightly pained expression.

"I guess I'll start with my strengths." She said quietly before clearing her throat.

"I am a certified herbologist and surgeon with over one hundred successful surgeries under my belt in the last year alone. I am a competent hand to hand combatant and was trained directly under the tutelage of the Red-Eyed Demon for about eight months when I traveled at his side... I believe the only other real asset I have is my body. The Demon used my... assets," She said while carefully gesturing to her breasts and her lower body, "numerous times to distract and lure enemies away from their patrol routes, guard posts, safe houses, etc,. I cannot say it's my favorite thing to do, but if I must I will gladly offer to dress in revealing clothing and do what I can to open a path whenever necessary."

She took a moment to breath and let that information sink in before she looked over at Hadrian.

"About your comment on the Assassins and trickery, my Lord Hadrian... I am afraid that I must correct you." She said, taking in a little breath to prepare for what she had a feeling would turn into a rather unpleasant debate if she did not choose her words carefully.

"The Assassins of both organizations fear nobody save for those they know to be physically superior to them, and those individuals are few and far between. According to the Demon, both Te'i Sai and Roda Ah K'mht make use of a special blend of specially combined chemicals which they make their Assassins consume daily from a young age to permanently unlock the neurochemical restraints on their musculature by the time they are in their early teenage years. This means that, once the process is complete, adrenaline is no longer required to access 100% of their muscular output which is something normal people can only do under situations of extreme duress. Unless you have access to those chemicals, it doesn't matter how skilled any of us might be. There is nothing any of us can do against them in a head to head fight, but that doesn't mean that this is a hopeless cause.

She took a moment to look around and make sure everyone was paying attention to this before continuing.

"Despite the disadvantages we face, there are things we can do to combat Roda Ah K'mht or else the Demon would have refused to even come to meet us when I called for him. He may not be the most social individual, but he is trustworthy. Of that, I'm certain." She said.

Linde stood up and turned around to show her back to everyone as she slowly lifted her shirt about halfway and showed them her central and lower back. Along her back was a faint, but never the less still visible scar running from the center of her ribcage on her left side which crossed over her spinal chord to the bottom right side near the top of her right hip before stopping just above her pants.

"This wound almost robbed me of my ability to walk, but it was the Demon who provided the medicinal and surgical expertise to save my legs from paralysis. The speed and precision he demonstrated goes beyond even my skills and qualifications as a doctor, and when he was finished he told me that he had saved me from such a fate because he wanted me to live."

She let her shirt down and turned around to sit in her chair again.

"He has his reasons for giving us this mission, and I know it's hard to simply listen to my words and accept them I promise you all that if you have faith in his guidance we will be rewarded for it. We will need to work hard to accomplish our missions, make no mistake about that, but we will be able to accomplish them so long as we work together and heed his advice. Again, he's not the most social individual, but he is none the less doing what he feels will challenge while keeping us alive at the same time."

She looked over to Zelic and Sina and gave them a warm smile.

"Well, I believe I've talked long enough. Why don't you two tell us about yourselves now? I got a little off track and I apologize for that." She said with a soft chuckle.

Zelic and Sina

Zelic never concidered himself to be hasty or over emotional. No, he had spent years watching over unruly children and practicing meditation in order to have his long lasting patients. This was a serious time though and Hadrian was running his restraint thin. Never in his life had the swordsman met anyone as arrogant in his life. May the Goddesses help him, they truely decided to present him with a trial of trials. Instead of voicing his annoyance, Zel chose to stay quiet. He was taking Linde's protest to confrontation to heart.

Sina went about Hadrian with an entirely different approach. She tuned him out completely. Instead she looked over the small menue at the inn and order a pint of their strongest ale. She still had some cash left from their last endevor and she figured there was no time like listen to Hadrian ramble than to get totally smashed. Four mugs later and halfway through Linde's own speech, Sina was pleasantly buzzed.

"Well, I believe I've talked long enough. Why don't you two tell us about yourselves now? I got a little off track and I apologize for that."

Zelic was the first to reply. "It's alright Linde, you're story helped to remind us that the Demon is still a man, a very powerful one, but still human." The words were strange when talking about some how held such legendary status. They were true none the less.

Looking over at his sister, who was still more interested in drinking than talking, Zel continued on talking. "Speaking for both of us, I suppose you could say I take care of all the strength related tasks. I like to keep in peak physical shape, I suppose my skills weilding a sword are top notch if you don't compare me to assassins from either organization." Zelic quieted down for a moment as he though. Of course this was when Sina decided to put her two sense in.

"Zel used to sound as stupid as Hadrian does now when it came to his sword wielding skills." The brunette announced, taking another large gulp of her beverage. "Got the crap beat out of him and his neck slit," She made a slicing motion over her own. "Almost died." Zelic sent his sister a glare and nudged her leg underneath the table. Putting on a pout, Sina mumbled something under her breath before signalling the barmaid to bring her another pint.

Clearing his throat the older Maliq went right back to assessing his and his sister's skills. "Sina, when not drinking, is a sound strategist. She's managed to get us out of a few serious scrapes. She also has an affinity with people. Could probably sell sand to a fisherman if she needed to. And quick, she can run." Sitting back in his seat, Zel made himself comfortable. "As for weaknesses, Sina has no strength physcially. If she gets caught, she's done for. Myself, I suppose that would be Sina. I hate to admit it, but I'd act before I'd think if she was placed in danger. Not good with split second decisions either."

Their group's little area was fairly silent as he finished. Turning his head towards the other two that hadn't spoken, he nudged his chin at them. "What about you guys?"

"What about you guys?"

Ace took another sip of his cup and put it back down on the table, he finally started feeling something. "I guess its my turn." he cleared his throat, "Like Zelic I like to keep in good shape, and I am very well trained in all types of combat, but mainly sword fighting. I would consider myself very agile and I have a lot of stamina. I can communicate very well, and I sure as hell know how to deal with situations as they come and go. I've learned to be very tactical from my family, and I would risk myself for anyone I consider a friend. As for my weaknesses, I guess I don't much experience. I've only trained with my father and brothers." He looked to his left, "And as you can see, from my previous encounters with the Roda Ah'Khmt my left shoulder is a weak spot, at least for the time being."

He smiled as he took another sip of his drink. He looked over to Aliana, "Aliana care to contribute?" He said with a joyful tone.

Aliana listened with rapt attention as the others opened up and explained their strengths and flaws. All of them were very honest about everything and when it was Aliana's turn, she smiled at each of them brightly.

"Well I think you can all add honest to your lists and also bravery. It takes a lot to admit your strengths and even more to come clean about your flaws." Draining her second tankard of beer, she settled in her seat and looked thoughtful for a moment. Pursing her lips, she pondered for a few more moments before starting her own speech. "Now, I cannot admit to physical strength such as Ace or Zelic, but I'm certainly strong. Working on the farm all these years has toughened me up and give me a physique that any normal man would be proud of. I'm also extremely handy with a bow and arrow, I never miss a shot. I've been hunting all my life in the forests behind our farm and I know I'm extremely good at it. I can ride any horse, anywhere. I seem to have this connection with them all. I'm afraid, however, that is where my physical attributes end." Shrugging her shoulders, she straightened a little. "I consider myself to be intelligent, my father always insured the highest level of education and I have a very logical brain. Even if a plan sounds radical, I will have thought it out over and over again and considered every single detail. I'm also determined. Once I set my mind to something I don't give up easily, I keep going until I see it done and this was simply be no different. Lastly, on my strengths, I consider myself to be somewhat witty and humorous. Perhaps I'll be able to keep spirits high when we are feeling low?"

Taking a deep breath, she looked to each face and continued brightly. "Now, weaknesses. You are yet to see it, and I hope you never have to, but I have a nasty temper at times. It doesn't happened very often, but if someone was to rub me up the wrong way," She looked pointedly at Hadrian. "Then I would snap and it can be fairly spectacular when I do. I'm also foolhardy. Although I'm logical, I can sometimes rush into situations and find myself in trouble. Sometimes I think I plan out a situation too much and when it goes the wrong way I am completely at a loss and vulnerable. My sharp tongue can get me into trouble and none are too keen on my sarcasm. I try to keep it to a minimum, but it depends on the company I suppose. And I can't cook for anything, so I shall be no hope there." She finished with a little smile, nodding her head. It felt good to get it all of her chest.

"I think we have a right mix here, hey Linde?"
