Setting
Kayla sighed heavily, her eyes locked on a Walmart up ahead, dead surrounding its entrance. She checked to make sure the clip in her pistol was completely full. She had lived in Denver her whole life. Born and raised right here in the streets that were now inhabited by the dead. She knew most of the people, but really had no sympathy for them at all. "Remember Kayla, Go for the head... Not the neck... Or the throat. The head..." She began to slowly sneak her way over. She leaped, tightening her grip on her machete. Even though the blade was dull, it still easily cut through the skull's of the dead.
Eventually, she managed to clear most of them out, heading into the abandoned Walmart. "Please, dont be raided... Please..."
Once inside, she began moving furniture in front of the door. Too her luck, the store still had some useful items, but not many.
She sat in a lounging chair and shuffled around in her duffel bag, pulling out a picture. It had her, a younger boy in her arms, and two grown people behind them. She smiled. "I'm gonna be alright..." Placing the picture back in her bag, she took anything useful. Canned food, a sweat shirt, and a few bottles of water. Before leaving, she found a few Hershey's bars and placed them in her bag as well.
She began to make her way back to the door. Her eyes widened, the dead had multiplied their numbers and were beating on the glass of the stores automatic doors. "Sh-" She refrained herself from cursing as she was prepared for the zombies to burst through the glass at any moment.
The door exploded, glass everywhere, furniture flying, pieces of the dead flung about. The girl got in the car with whoever it was had drove it in the door. They were talking. Great, now they've attracted half the dead in the city here and busted down the main door. There's no way I'm gonna find a working car before the dead get here, and I'm definitely not outrunning them. "Shit," he cursed under his breath. "Well Tyler, let's hope they're friendly." He stood up and raised his hands to show he meant no harm, but before he could move, the car sped out of the store.
"Well, Tyler, time to find a ride," he said to himself as he left the Walmart. He found a good Ford truck he could use, but how to get inside it. There's no time to think. Dammit Tyler, you better be good at hotwiring. He thought this angrily before he reached up and shoved his elbow into the window of the car. Surprisingly, the alarm didn't sound. My lucky break, he thought as he unlocked the door, climbed in, and began trying to hotwire the car.
After a few minutes he found a spare key in the sun visor. Tyler started the car, and followed the two in the other car, at least, he followed where he thought they went.
