Maura's Story

(I might be sending in another character)

"They're much better than I thought. Who's that one? How did she know how to get out?" A man asked, pointing to a black panther on a frozen video screen. "that is subject #3. She is called 'Jade'." A voice said. The man grunted and pointed to another figure. "What about him. I didn't expect the group to take out fifty guards, let alone one single mutant." The other voice spoke up again; "That is what they call Tetsuya." The man turned away from the screen, to face an 18 year old guy. "I will send out people to capture them. But they are weak. They will fail. You, find and capture them." the man said.

Jade frowned. There were a lot. But they could take them. She wasn't that injured herself. She could turn invisible....but she was also freaking blind. It wouldn't work out to well. To many sounds and she would be completely confused. Think. Plan. Think. There had to be something....Anything. "Well, then. Shall we make this a challenge? I bet that I can take on all of you and win. What do you say, winner takes all? Until there's a definite decision, no one touches the group. Alright?" Jade turned to face Tetsu. No....don't do that. That's just stupid. "Tetsu..." she said, not really coming up with a good argument to stop him.

None the less, he still managed to kill all of them, with a couple injuries. Jade raised an eyebrow. Interesting...very interesting. He was a good fighter, but also incredibly irrational and stupid. Fifty armed men against one mutant? Seemed impossible. Next thing she knew he would be taking on a hundred armed men with his hands tied behind his back. She rolled her eyes. Now what? They needed to get as far away from here as possible. Was there a car they could use? She couldn't see a damn thing, so she wouldn't know.

Jordan looked at Tetsu in amusement. "You save all tha energy and you could t kill the guess in their!" She yelled pointing to the door. She rubbed her temples in fustrastion a d sighed "You know what, never mind." Jordan looked at the dead men and sighned again. This is never gonna end. She liked over at Jade and held her gaze. "This would be a good time to tell us what exactly happened with you and the medics." She took a breath before finishing. "And how the HELL you have better senses then us!" She looked at the rest of the group glad she got her question out and poked at Jade again letting her know Jordan wanted an answer as of that second.

Jade scrambled for words. Should she tell them? Would they view her as weak? Would they say 'aw, jade I'm so sorry' when she didn't want anyone apologizing to her. And it would happen. She would get every bodies sympathy and attention. Sympathy and attention she didn't want. Granted, it probably would help if she told them. They would tell her what was going on, guide her, etc., etc., etc.. She really didn't want that. Having everyone be her 'seeing eye dog'. Then again, what choice did she have? She probably couldn't come up with a convincing lie. She could say they enhanced her hearing, but A, only the scientists would know how to do that, and B, how does that relate to her getting stitched up after being shot at.

She could just run away. But that would be the stupidest thing to to. She could though. She listened to everyone's breathing, where they were, who it was, how she would get past. She could turn to about 4 o'clock, leap approximately five feet in the air over Okaida, and....What was she thinking? That was a stupid idea. She bit her lip. She didn't want to tell them. She really didn't. But again, she had no choice. She tried to lock eyes with Jordan, but only looking at her forehead.

"I'm blind."

James had used Alexis as a shield for his charge and tyhe plan worked prefectly. they had been able to take down every one of the sholdiers with little to no injury's. Just as they were finishing up what was left of the soldiers Maura tried to hand him a piece of paper that looked like a map, but before he got to look at it Jade came and ripped it up. Befiore he got the chance to ask, why the hell'd you do that. She grabbed Maura's arm and started to head down a hallway saying that there was soldiers coming.

He didn't really want to stay and see if she was right so James just followed her until she lead them outside. At first James thought that they were safe, but before he could do anything they were surronded be at least 50 armed guards. Dozens of senerios were running threw his head trying to think of a way out of this before Tetsuya steped forward and challenged all the guards. James would have rung his neck and killed him if wern't for the fact that all the guard agreed not to shot anyone exept for him. He's going to get himself killed, was the only thought going through his head. James planned to make a run for it while Tetsuya was fighting, but some how Tetsuya managed to beat all the guards.

After being happy that everyone was ok James began to think. How did they know where we are, Jordan had destroyed all the cameras. And Tetsuya, the way he fought it seemed to good to be true. James had been at the lab longer then anyone, and he had seen Tetsuya fight there was no way he could fight like that. It wasn't in his nature to think badly about someone who had just saved him, but there was something wrong here.

James keep pondering this though before he head someone ask Jade about something. He turned his head up and looked at jade, before she said, "I'm blind." At first He wanted to say somthing like sorry to hear that, but he new that would just make jade more sad. Then Alexis said something about it, but James just ignored it. Instead he walked over to Jade put one hand on her shoulder and said, "Well lets put those new ears of yours to use. From now on take point with me."

With the hand on her shoulder he turned her in the direction away from the base and started walking. Almost forgeting Okashi he turned to Chem and asked, "Chem could you heal Okashi for me." Then he turned back to the front and walked side by side with jade. Once he had enough distance between them and the rest he kept looking ahead and said in a quite voice low enought so that only jade could hear it he said, "Jade I want you to listen to Tetsuya. There's no way he could have beaten all those guards... unless he's working with who ever brought use hear. Right now I really need you so please just do it."

((Sorry about introducing another character. Howl_by_the_moon still hasn't accepted or rejected it yet, so I am going to assume she is inactive. FYI! this character is not on the good side [i sort of introduced him in my last post]. Ps, hope one of the "side affects" of the surgery, blindness, hearing thing isn't too cliche. It is like what happened to Max in Maximum ride...but whatever, right?))
Jade sucked in a breath. they weren't pitying her like she thought. That was a bonus. James even offered for her to walk up front with him. Eh, not really what she wanted but she wasn't going to argue. Soundlessly, she made her way toward him, all the while listening, every sound, every moment, each and everybody's breathing. Whenever they were far enough ahead, James whispered to her. "Jade I want you to listen to Tetsuya. There's no way he could have beaten all those guards... unless he's working with who ever brought use hear. Right now I really need you so please just do it."

Jade was kind of leery of him herself, but she nodded, listening to make sure nobody else heard James. No ear twitches...nothing. But why listen to him? Unless he muttered or something she wouldn't be able to tell if he was a spy or not. it wasn't like she could read minds. How cool would that be? "Ok, well we should probably get as far away from this crack house as we can," she said. "Is there a car somewhere? Chopper? Truck? Even a bunch of little motorcycles? I guess we could go on foot, but aren't some of us hurt? I heard Cem coughing." she said. She sniffed the air. She smelled rubber and gasoline. "Yeah, there is-" but suddenly she was cut short as a searing pain exploded in her head.

She doubled over, involuntarily screaming fairly loud. Pain was overtaking her and she felt like her head was about to explode. Worse, she could see images flashing around in her head. People, places, things, long mathematical equations, nonsense. An image of a boy, tall, lean, black hair, green eyes, lingered for a while, and then the images zoomed around again, all the while she doubles over in pain. SHe felt like she might pass out and was too nauseous to stand up. She didn't know how long this went on. five minutes. Five hours. Five days. Five weeks. Five years. Finally, the images stopped flashing and the world returned to nothingness. The pain ebbed away a little, and through gritted teeth, she managed to stand up. She then proceeded to vomit the contents of her stomach into a bush. What a beautiful cherry on top of a magical day.

A dark figure {Zane} loomed from behind a car, motionless, stifling his breathing so it couldn't be heard. They were several feet away but the blind one might be able to hear her. He could see, yes see, all of their scents. The blind one was a dark black smoke, dotted with purple. The one called james had a sort of filmy white. The one named Alexis had jagged pieces of brown and orange. They were all distinct trails that he could both see and smell. Now that he recognized everyone's trail and scent, he could track them from the sky. When the blind one had her little episode, distracting everyone, he skittered into the woods before they noticed. He unfurled gigantic black wings and took to the sky, a black dot in the sky before the blind one's episode was done.

Smiling to himself, he pressed a button on the chip in his ear. "I can see them below. I recognize their scents. I'm going to track them and then send backup." he said, before releasing the button. "Very well." a gruff voice said in his ear. Then, with eyes like a hawk, he looked down below him, still seeing the scents whirl around the figures. He arched his dark wings, yes wings, so he swept in wide circles. He loved the sky. Being part bird was very fun. Being part bird and not trapped in a cage is even better.

Tetsu raised his hands defensively toward Jordan. "My side only just finished healing a few minutes ago. If I'd helped out before then it would have taken longer for all this to heal and then we'd still be in the situation I resolved just a moment ago, so don't get angry with me."

Hearing Jade say that she was blind definitely surprised him. He'd noticed she'd been acting weird, but hadn't thought much of it, figuring it was just something to do with the situation they had been in. When Jade proceeded to freak out and vomit into a nearby bush, Tetsu quickly looked away. Just the thought of it made him want to.

All of the things going on were making him want to shift back to his animal form. Unlike most of the others, he was most comfortable in that shape, even though it was not his 'real body.' Almost without realizing it, Tetsu shifted to his fennec fox form and winced momentarily as his wounds stung from it. Letting himself land on the ground, he laid down and covered his face with his paws. Or at least until his stomach growled. Uncovering his face and getting to his feet, he surveyed the ground around him and was oddly delighted to see a lizard skittering along nearby him. Suffice to say, it quickly became lunch, likely to the disgust of the others, but it wasn't like he could do anything about the diet that came with being part fennec fox.

James was relieved when Jade didn't ask why, just an ok. Her next statement was right though they did have to get far away from here, soon. As James looked around he seen two military Hummers. "Yeah, there is-" was all he heard before Jade went into a fit of screaming at the top of her lungs keeled over in pain. Shaking her he said, "Jade, Jade what's wrong," but it was apparent that his voice wasn't reaching her. All he could do was watch her screaming in pain for about five minutes before she finally came back. He was about to ask her, what was that, but was cut short when she vomited into a nearby bush.

After that fit he didn't really what anything like that to happen again. So disregarding whatever she said. James went over to Jade put his back to her, got on one knee, grabbed her hands, put them around his neck, put his forearms on the back of her knees and picked her up so he was carrying her piggy back style. James knew it probably didn't help, but it didn't matter if it could help he was going to do it. Talking in a strict but caring voice to Jade he said, "I don't care if you don't want to be carried, I'm carrying you." After that he turned to the group and said,

"Everyone there's some vehicle over there lets go and hitch a ride."

Maura's ears pricked up when she heard james say that there was a vehicle, and looked over. "You sure we all can fit in that thing?" Maura said raising an eyebrow. There's kind of 11 people and one vehicle.." Maura said and laughed a little. "Well we can strap a couple of us to the top!" Maura said jokingly, but wondering what the heck they were gonna do. "Oh.. and uh, does anyone know how to drive? If not I can try, and probably drive like a maniac." Maura said, in a joking mood smiling at the others.

Jordan just remembered that Tetsu was hurting until he said so. She face palmed and chuckled. "Sorry Tetsu, forgot, i'll try to remember next time." She flinched when Jade doubled over and screamed in pain. It scared her enough that her tail was stiff and straight. She gave her tail a squeeze and it went back to normal. She looked at Jade again who was now vomiting in a bush. Jordans crunched up her nose in disgust. "Ewww, what they heck? Are you okay Jade?" Sh probably wasn't going to answer since she was already put on James back. She happily turned her head to look at the vehicle James was pointing out. She frowned a little and nodded in agreement with Maura. "I offer to sit on the roof of the car, its fine with me, really." She said almost pleading

"m' fine." Jade said, becoming dizzy as James pulled her onto his back. What the heck had just happened? She remembered the explosion of pain, the images, and the dark haired boy. Her ear twitched nervously. She sensed someone looking at her, but she didn't hear it. She shrugged off the feeling and tried to return to her look of emotionless normal. "Really James, I'm fine," she said, struggling from his grasp, her dizziness fading. She transformed full panther, happily greeting her heightened senses. She stretched her muscles and shook out her tail. The pain in her head had now completely faded. How odd.

"I'll run along side. It will help me get back to my usual self. Plus, I haven't ran full out in a long time," she said, trying to think back to the few times she had ran full out. Only in the lab's grassy 'prison yard' as she called it. They wanted to measure how fast she could run. They had clocked her at 70 mph at normal constant rate, 85 mph when running, and 110 mph full out sprinting, which was very exhausting. "I don't know what just happened, but don't worry about it."

Zero tightened his gaze on the group below, as he was so far up the figures where tiny dots, and he just a speck to the hybrids below. It looked like they were talking about the car. The blind one, Jade, transformed into panther. Very impressive. But also blind. An easy target. Their scents hung around them like an ominous clouds. He grinned. This would be fun. Very fun.

Maura stood there listening to everyone talking and looked over to see what she thought looked like alexis starting to drive away in the vehicle with everyone but her in it. She watched a bit dazed, her vision a bit blurry and hazy as they drove off without her and shook her head and laughed a little, mad at herself for being as stupid to be thinking so deeply that she didnt even notice them driving away without her. "Well.. What the heck am I going to do now?" she asked herself while looking around. She turned back into her wolf form and sprinted off in another direction, towards a wooded area, where she thought she could be just thought to be an ordinary wolf since they were pretty much out in the middle of nowhere. She continued running, wondering and hoping that her friends wouldnt notice that she was gone and come back for her like a bunch of morons. Maura ran deeper into the lush, green, forest, her vision seeming to get a little better, and not as blurry as it used to be, and she started to become hungry. She thought that she could hunt for food since she was technically a wolf, but first she thought that she probably should find a good place to hide. A place that was impossibe to find. It'd definitely be hard to find a place like that, but she would have to find a place if she wanted to survive, and not be found.
After about an hour of searching in the forest she found a giant, mossy, and damp tree that had fallen over. She walked over to it and looked under it to find a small entrance to what looked like a cave. She sniffed under the tree, and squeezed under the huge fallen tree, and into the cave. She looked around, and sat down. She hoped she and the others would be alright.
She sat in the cave a while, not sure if she should come out, and really started doubting her eyesight. She laid down and put her head on her paws and started to see what looked like swirly rainbow type things come into view. Was she going insane, or did the scientists do something to her eyesight before the military captured them? She closed her eyes, and fell asleep as scenes of her with her mutant friends started to come into view; all of her dreams seeming twisted, and not the same as they seemed. Jade didnt have eyes, just empty eye sockets, and she was talking evil mumbo jumbo, like the scientists used to. About how the scientists were trying to help them, and that they should go back. She slowly opened her eyes. Now she was really hooked on the fact that the scientists did something to her vision. Would she become blind like Jade? Were all those things her twisted friends in dreamworld saying true? She had no clue, but she hoped that maybe it would all just go away.
