Several years after the events of Final Fantasy VIII . . .

-Our Timeline-
The sunshine peeked through the treetops of the forest between East Academy Station and Galbadia Garden, shining down on a young man, by the name of Karken Syn. The birds were chirping happily, and Karken laid snoozing on the ground off to the side of the path that ran through the forest. His eyes slowly fluttered open, and he sat up with a delighted sigh. Next to him were two Hyperion Gunblades, identical in model and make to Seifer's. He picked them up and started practicing his swordplay on the air, when suddenly, a bright flash of light appeared off in the distance. "What in the--?" He began running to where the flash came from. He stopped shortly in front of what was obviously what he was looking for, a white collection of intense light, which appeared to be a rip in the fabric of space-time. He slowly approached it, and looked into it, seeing flickering images of different ages and eras, in all of which he could see a strange floating castle with bat-like wings all over it, chained to the earth below.
"What the hell?" He asked himself.

-Her Timeline-
Sorceress Ultimecia sat upon her throne deep within her castle. She closed her eyes, recollecting her simple path to eternal life. She remembered when she and Adel combined powers, achieving Time Compression, a state of time in which every moment of time merged into one, and time no longer had a flow. After the grueling process of eradicating any threats, most humans of which were already disposed of through the act of time compression, she released the spell, spreading her presence throughout all time- Past, Present, and Future. But nonetheless, should any new human threats had arisen, the power she attained through absorbing Adel was more than enough to re-compress time at will, in the blink of an eye. Also with this ability, she could combine compression and decompression of time to effectively transfer her consciousness to any point throughout her ideal world's timeline.

-Our Timeline-
Karken stepped back a few steps, then immediately proceeded to Galbadia Garden. When he arrived, he took no hesitation in finding the headmaster and inquiring about Squall's present location. A phone call and a train ride later, Karken arrived at Balamb Garden. He walked in and took the elevator to the third floor, where Squall was seen sitting behind the desk, in a very ornate SeeD uniform. "You must be Karken." Squall said to him. Without any further words, Karken began to explain what he had seen in the forest the day before.

So basically, what's happening here is a time paradox at its greatest. Because Time molded into irrelevance, two separate, yet now-constantly-intertwining timelines had formed. One where Ultimecia had been completely eliminated, and the other, where she ruled supreme throughout all time. In her world, there is no Garden, there is no SeeD. Yet in our world, Ultimecia and Time Compression were only perceived and remembered by Squall and his friends. Their goal now? To find a way to do what Ultimecia was doing after she discovered the existence of the two timelines, and where Squall and the others had disappeared to: Hop freely back and forth between the two timelines. The difference between their goals is simple: Ultimecia's is to destroy SeeD, and/or the timeline in which they reside; Whereas Squall and gang set forth to destroy Ultimecia in HER OWN TIMELINE, thus destroying Time Compression completely.
