She was held against her will. Bound by iron chains and strange, whirring machines, placed in front of cameras and displayed like a common animal. Next to her was a tall man - thin, gaunt, black hair, but one eye a different color than the other. Speaking into the cameras.
"... been busy," she heard. "First arms, now legs... nothing's safe from you, is it? But soon, you will learn. You cannot simply expect to keep breaking the limbs of everyone you come across and hope there are no consequences. You hurt my child. Now I hurt yours."
The man turned to his side and nodded. She couldn't see what he was nodding to. All she could feel was the whirring of chains, pulling at her legs, yanking them to the side... and far beyond her normal range of movement. It was pain. She was made to move. Why couldn't she? Why was she there helpless?
"Now, unlike you, I have some medical knowledge, thanks to some friends of mine," continued the man. "You see, after a bone is moved..."
The man picked up a sledgehammer and walked over to Duma, stopping by her leg.
"It needs to be set!"
The man swung his sledgehammer for Duma...
Duma woke up breathing heavily, not quite aware that she was dreaming. Terrus hurries over to her and puts a hand on her.
"Are you all right?" asked Terrus.
"Do you want to head off for Alex now?" asked Terrus.
Duma shakes her head, following the scent out to the beach, where she comes across the strange object. Terrus follows her out and stares confused at the object while Duma gets close to smell it better.
Duma steps back as Terrus pokes the strange machine with his spear.
"Fatal er-r-r-ror detected; beginning-ing-ing system reboot... reboot successful; run-un-unning diagnostics.." the computerized voice stutters. "..Diagnostics inconclus-s-s-sive; massive hull-ull-ull damage present; data matr-r-r-rix compromised... Running emergency repairs.."
The machine soon starts venting a weird, sparkling green mist which quickly surrounds it, eating away the seaweed and barnacles, slowly revealing the machine as the badly damaged upper torso of what was once Ripsaw (although Duma and Terrus are unlikely to recognize him). The smell of rust and seawater eventually starts to disappear, too, as he presumably repairs himself with said mist - the gaping breaches eventually closing over, and most of his limbs and lower torso 'growing' back.
Soon enough, Ripsaw stands upright, the hulking machine's glass eyes blinking for a bit before staring at Terrus and Duma, as if he had just noticed the two of them.
"..Who arrre you two?" Ripsaw bellowed before looking around, rather concerned. "..Morrre imporrrtantly, wherrre am I?"
"I respond to the operrrating designation, Ripsaw. Anything else beyond that is.. inconsssequential, and mostly defunct now," he eventually resumed, choosing his words carefully as his voice started to sound rather deflated, the keypad and screen folding away in the meantime. "..I presssume it wasss you two, who managed to rrreactivate me?"
Terrus and Duma aren't exactly the type of people who would necessarily understand much about Ripsaw, one being a velociraptor and the other an alien with no sense of sarcasm and an incredibly literal mind.
"..Verrry well; ssseeing as my main dirrrective is now conflicting with my emergency prrrotocols, I must rewrite my entire sssystem from ssscratch, without the prrroper assissstance from my maker," said Ripsaw.
Odd slits suddenly open on Ripsaw's chassis as steam starts venting again, his body shifting and changing, turning him into a small and durable metallic orb, sporting a single glass-blue eye as it hovers about in the air.
"As a prrroper show of thanksss for allowing my function to continue, should you decide to perrrmit this, I would like to accompany you and lend my strrrength for a time," he resumed. "Sssince I have been rrrendered mostly purrrposeless, it would please me grrreatly to clear up this 'debt' to you, and in the end, perrrhaps even assist with my evolution."
"I decide to permit this," said Terrus. He turned to Duma. "Do you decide to permit this?"
Duma remembers the smell of corroded metal that came from Ripsaw. It reminded her of home far too much. But then, she always needed to keep her sense of smell sharp lest she lose it to her mechanical implants. Slowly, she nodded.
"Then I suppose you may accompany us," said Terrus.
Ripsaw (kinda) joined your party! Yay, I guess!
"Indeed," said Terrus. "Duma, where do you imagine Alex is right now?"
Duma shrugs as best she can.
"... I see," said Terrus. "One moment, the operating designation Ripsaw."
Terrus pulled out a cell phone and, after fiddling with it a bit, began to call Patches.
"'Ello?" asked Patches.
"Hello, Patches," said Terrus. "I was wondering if you would be able to help us."
"'Course I can," replied Patches. "What do you need?"
"I need to know where Alex is right now," said Terrus.
"Last I 'eard, 'e was somewhere in Fantasma," said Patches.
"Last you heard?" asked Terrus. "Can't you track him now? Don't you have computers that can do that?"
"... It's a long story," said Patches. "An' shirtless?"
"My name is Terrus," said Terrus.
"When ye find Alex... keep a close eye on 'im," said Patches. "'e needs it."
"Understood," said Terrus. "Goodbye."
Terrus stops the call and turns to Ripsaw.
"Well, the operating designation Ripsaw," said Terrus. "It appears we're going to be going on a quest throughout Fantasma looking for a friend of ours. I hope you can handle going extraordinarily fast."
Terrus turns into a dragon and flies off towards Solum city, while Duma paws at the ground and bolts off, moving so fast that she runs across the surface of the water.
-> To Solum City
"Oh good... The village is safe." She sighed in relief, "Anymore like that then there's gonna be more problems!"
A screaming squirrel is running past Andre, and it gives Sarina the nerve to talk to him immediately. She goes to Andre's house and bangs on his door loud enough to get his attention. Andre opens up with a smile on his face.
"Ah, bonjour madam! What do you need right--"
"Permit. Now." Sarina said sternly.
"Oh, but of course! Here." Andre shows Sarina his permit to keep woodland animals in his house. But Sarina seems to notice something in the permit, "Why do you ask such a thing?"
"Your permit is expired." Sarina burns the permit apart.
"Wha...?!"
"WE'RE FREE!!! YAAAAAAAAYY!!!"
The woodland animals escape from the house. Andre gasped in shock and couldn't believe that his permit was burned.
"Sacre bleu! What is the meaning of this!?" Andre asked, "Why did you burn my permit?"
"Maybe you didn't read the expiration date. You must renew your permit if you want to keep the animals in. I mean- I can't keep babysitting you when I have a town to look after!"
"What seems to be the problem, Red?" Sarina questioned.
