Evan Brownrigg

"Been there, done that, what's in it for me?"

0 · 557 views · located in The Island

a character in “Island of Doctor Moreau”, as played by Aramay

Description

Name: Evan Brownrigg
Age: 32
Species: Its a surprise ^.~
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 240 lbs
Appearance: Evan is a stocky fellow. And by stocky I mean chubby. He doesn't show it so much in his face. In fact, he might have been a good looking guy if he watched what he ate and didn't weigh so much. Instead he looks more like a bit of pot bellied man child since he's still young in the face. He has short black hair and brown eyes. At some point he looks like he may have been pretty well tanned. But after spending so much time indoors that tan faded just enough to make him look a little sickly from lack of sun.
Special Needs:(None yet)
Strengths: Sneaky: He might be a little thick in the waist, but when he knows he can get something out of it, he's pretty slick about pulling the wool over someone's eyes in order to get what he wants. Knowledgeable: As much of an ass as he is, its a good idea to stick close to him because he knows a lot more than almost any other subject on the island. If knowledge is one of the key factors to staying alive and ahead of the game on the island, then he almost has it made compared to the others. Inventive: Necessity is the mother of invention. He will find ways to keep his loot safe, and will do almost anything to keep hold of his creature comforts.
Weaknesses:Greedy: Why just go for what you need when you can just screw everyone over and take it all? This has gotten him into more troublesome predicaments than he can count and it will continue to be so. Fat: Yes, when being quick on your feet and endurance are what's required to survive outside the Facility of the island, then fat is your enemy. Somehow he finds enough food to keep himself wide in the waist but it also means he can't hack it outside of a controlled environment. Selfish: In a place where it is important to work with others to survive. This is a big handicap. Social: Surprised? When you are a selfish jerk who looked out for number one, then you better enjoy being alone a lot of the time.
Career: Ex-cop/Guard
Weapons: A pocket knife hidden in his underwear's waist band. He finds it to be more a useful tool than a weapon. Like collecting rope that can't be otherwise untangled by hand.
Personality: Evan wasn't anywhere near as much of an ass hole then as he is now. He always seems bored with situations that doesn't involve him getting joy out of watching others struggle. Be it struggling to get past a physical obstacle or solve a problem that they can't get their mind around. He's like a kid that knows all the answers and will tease you for not knowing, but never gives you the answer. If by chance he does help, its because he wants something out of it. The more the better. If you humour him or find a way to entertain this selfish dope, then you might get a good hint from him that will help you. But for the most part. If he is around. Expect to find him as the source of the pain in your ass, or neck.
History: Evan actually had a waistline before the island. And a decent personality, girlfriend, job, and work ethic. The only hints to his more self-destructive personality was his snarky humour and temptation to sleep in instead of getting up in the morning. He worked as a beat cop. Fresh out of the academy and with decent grades to boot. His downward spiral started with just a back streak of luck. During a visit after a call reporting possible domestic violence, his partner was stabbed and bled to death when they stumbled into a drug house. He was at the same time incapacitated by getting stabbed with a loaded syringe by a raving addict during a struggle. He went missing for two days after that. His girlfriend found him frothing at the mouth, severely dehydrated and half naked under her car.

He was given paid leave of absence but he was showing no signs of improvement and refused to receive any psychiatric help. Regulations state that it is required that he receive a psych evaluation before returning to duty. His girlfriend couldn't handle such an extreme change in his personality. He was a completely different person compared to who she fell in love with. She didn't want to leave him but she had to get out for a while for a chance to regain her peace of mind. That however did nothing but make it worse for Evan. She was actually helping to at least keep him stable, if nearly catatonic about everything around him. In his head, he thought that if he worked for a bit that everything would straighten out. But he couldn't work until he was, straightened out.

Desperate to put on a badge again, he was willing to take on a job as a guard, or security of some kind. Much to his surprise he found his dream job online. A paid position looking for security with a police background, on an island that looked like paradise no less. Vacation away from home while getting paid to do a job he never wanted to quit. It was too good to be true. No surprise that he wasn't thinking straight when he applied. Or why his employers didn't ask him why he had been put on paid leave before applying for the job.

The job really was what he had hoped for. Keep the order, watch out for trespassers, sit back and enjoy the sunset from the monitors. It was freeing and calming to him. He never really got therapy, which contributed to his decline. It prevented him from recognizing what exactly was wrong with the operations they were running there. Not that it didn't register in a subconscious sense. He started eating more, and doing less. In fact, he was the one responsible for the failures of the first three "surviving" subjects. In two months he had gained more than 20 lbs and wasn't keeping as close of an eye on the subjects as he should have. By the time they found the subjects again the "damage" was already done. It was the final straw to the long list of increasing mess ups he had been adding to.

Finally, they approached him with another offer. To go undercover, in a sense, since he no longer looked like a legitimate cop or guard. "Keep an eye on the others. And report back anything that could cause trouble."

So begins...

Violet had hoped to find a cave or something above a sheltered bay. Someplace that had a view or close to a place with a view of the ocean. That way it would be possible to keep an eye out for boats. As they would likely be the only source of rescue or escape. But hearing Evan, Violet is embarrassed to realize she failed to consider how potentially violent storms could be. There are ways to determine the height of 'normal' tides and Violet was sure she could place camp safely away from them. However, storm surge was nearly impossible to predict without complex computer models.

Violet is so distracted by her own thoughts, she almost missed seeing the flint while following Taurus. Violet notes the location so she return soon.

Violet looks around the clearing, the water, the sheltering rocks and trees, the bamboo. The bamboo especially would make ideal material for building a shelter and tools. It was nearly perfect but for one small thing.

Violet again approaches Taurus and makes sure to get his attention. "Thank you so much Big guy. But before we can really accept this generous gift we need one more favor from you. Will you promise to never tell or lead the guards here to us? If you agree I will owe you and I be sure to repay that debt in some fashion."

Violet scratches at some of mud drying on her. She wants to wash it off in the water but this is much more important.

Amy moves to her knees on the sand and shakes her head to clear it. What happened? She looks around herself, trying to get oriented, willing her memory to come into focus. She sees the remains of her ship nearby. That's right, she thinks. She'd been on her way to visit an old friend--using boat, because why not?--when a freak storm had risen out of nowhere, running the ship aground out here in the middle of nowhere.

Instantly, Amy panics. She's been traveling totally alone. In fact, she didn't tell anyone she was leaving on her trip--not even the friend she was going to visit. She's been living alone for years, checking in with her parents by phone once a week or so. Often over the years she's often had that thought that were something to happen to her, it would be days or even weeks before anyone noticed. How would she get help all the way out here? All of her belongings were gone, including her phone. Unlikely that there was cell service here anyway.

She put a hand on her forehead, covering her eyes, and took some deep breaths, conscious of how quickly her heart was beating. The panic was rising. She had to do something

Amy stood, putting one shaky foot in front of the other, and decided that the best thing she could do was explore her surroundings. Maybe there was a ranger station or some way she could get back to civilization. She started walking.

Amy listens, but hears only the ocean and the wind. Maybe a bird. Some sort of warthog grunting. A low growl. Nothing concerni---

Wait, what? She freezes, panic welling up again. She's not a runner. In fact, she always used to joke that if she and another person were being chased by a lion, she'd take one for the team. She never intended that joke to become reality.

She holds completely still, listening hard. There are, in fact, a lot of strange sounds coming through the air from all directions, but none seem close to her. She closes her eyes, breathes deeply for five counts, and then decides this must be relatively normal for a jungle island, and sets off walking again.

After what seems like eternity--walking in sand is HARD! And it's hot, and holy cow the mosquitos are big--Amy crests the hill at the top of the beach. She stops to catch her breath and looks around. To the north, the jungle looks impassibly thick, but to the south, it looks like---

Could it be? Or is it just a mirage? Amy squints, hating her contacts and glad she always keeps her glasses on her, so those, at least, weren't lost in the shipwreck. Still, she can't put them on until she can take out her contacts, which she can't do here. So squinting it is. Stupid prescription. It'd be nice if she had, like, a billion eyes, so if one went bad the others would be fine. She smiles at the thought.

Yes, it is. A building in the distance to the south. Feeling her spirits boosted by the possibility of safety--and a bathroom--Amy sets off with renewed speed in the direction of the facility.

Amy is so happy about finding what looks like civilization that she stops paying attention to her feet. Suddenly, she trips over...something? She falls heavily, cracking her head against the ground hard enough to black out.

When she wakes up, she's in a sterile hospital room. Her left arm hurts like it has been jabbed with something. She hopes she didn't get some sort of jungle vaccine---she's always reacted poorly to vaccines. She rubs her arm, feeling nervous, and looks around for someone to explain this place.
