Alexander James Black arrived at the hospital as he did every morning. He'd dressed in a crisp white dress shirt, black dress pants and polished black shoes. His coat - a charcoal color - hung in the car still so he could slip it on before he went to work. He would have an hour to spend time with his beloved wife before he went to work. As a lawyer, he was one of the best in the city, perhaps in the country. Once his cerulean blue eyes fixed themselves on you, it was very difficult to lie without giving yourself away.

His bright white hair was still damp from the shower as he walked into the corridor, following the crazy paths of colored lines. By God, did everything have to be so confusing? He'd been here thousands of times he was sure in the past five years, but still, sometimes it was still hard to find the room. But at last, after a wrong turn or two, he came to the door he was familiar with. With an exhaled breath, he opened the door where his darling wife, Emily Black, lay on the hospital bed.

Everything was as it always was, but for some reason that Alex couldn't put a finger on, something felt different today, almost electrifying. . . something had changed . . .
