Penn Cardonell

a character in “Magefire”, as played by China Demon

Description

Full Name: Penn

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Species: Penn is predominantly human, but, judging by his appearance, seems likely to have some sort of fae in his bloodline.

Occupation: A messenger for VEGA.

Description: Penn is an upright, thin fellow with a shock of bright blonde hair and very light skin. He stands at about five feet and nine inches tall, but somehow tends to gives off the impression of being smaller than others of his height. His face is symmetrical and mildly featured, without any harsh angles. His green eyes make up most of the substance of his appearance; the intelligence of his character is most apparent there. He tends to look out of place or uncomfortable in stiff clothes colored with manufactured dyes.

Personality: Penn tends to be a pleasant sort of fellow—occasionally awkward, but never indecisive. He is an intelligent and down-to-earth person, usually with clear set goals. However, these goals tend to be focused solely on himself.

Penn doesn’t mind much what other people think of him. In most circumstances he considers the general public’s opinion of him to be harmless. In general he tries to keep people out of his plans and goals, as he sees them as messy and has a hard time predicting their actions well enough to make precise calculations about them. He is not completely inept at social interaction, but he understands that it is not one of his strong points. Though he does like people, sometimes he has to consider his situation logically, and more often than not, involving himself with people tends to be a little impractical for him. In the realm of scholarship, Penn has a penchant for intellectual pursuits. He hates being mentally idle, and his intellect is an important part of his identity.

Skills: Penn’s intellectual abilities are his strength. He is at once quick and reliable. He does not need time to study a text in order to understand it, only the time it takes to read it—or, in other cases, to hear it. He is quite adept at understanding complex ideas, with subjects such as math and science coming quite naturally to him. He also remembers information quite accurately.

Weaknesses: Penn is not good with people. He can interact with others fine in average circumstances, but in more delicate situations he finds it hard to get a grasp of what behaviors would be most appropriate for achieving a given goal. He also shows a lack of understanding some details of display rules and other unspoken rules of social interaction.

Penn will occasionally experience small episodes where he becomes very hyperactive. These can be triggered by negative events, though they closely resemble the way he acts when he’s excited or happy. He also lacks most of the useful physical abilities that are expected of men, such as wielding weapons, hand-to-hand combat, and running.

Brief History: Penn is a bastard child from a distant branch of a rather trivial, but well-respected family. He grew up in his father’s household with his two half-brothers and their mother. Penn never knew his birth mother.

Penn was not discriminated against in terms of education, which he shared with his half-brothers. Penn’s lack of combative ability was apparent from a very early age, and any sort of combative training or outdoor sport ultimately ended in his humiliation. Penn’s half-brothers were quick to realize this weak spot of his and openly bullied him during physical training. Penn opted out of these physical training exercises at a young age, prompting the opinion from his half-brothers and their mother that he was a waste of family resources.

With much of his day freed up from this point on, Penn turned his energies to learning as much as he could through books. He had been taught to read and write along with his half-brothers, and was provided a tutor. His intellect flourished and he soon outstripped his tutor. He also proved himself to his brothers, repeatedly displaying that they were no match for his wit, and righted the power imbalance between them.
He currently serves as a messenger for VEGA, mostly carrying mundane messages within the castle and to VEGA members in the capital. He can also take messages, as he has the ability to write.

Other: Penn is strongly deterred by clothing that has been turned inside-out.

So begins...
