John was thrilled to have her hand intertwined with his. For the first time since he arrived in Crestside, he felt calm. This was what he had been looking for. He might have found his story, but he had found what he had been for a long time.
Manson scratched his chin and sighed.
I guess we really are dealing with a nut in a robe.
He spoke softly, so the other officer wouldn't overhear them.
"We're not sure what we've got on our hands. We got one victim, cut down the crest with all his organs removed. We got a dog skinned and also missing it's organs. Carl got a call earlier about a woman being kidnapped by two men in hooded robes that we're looking into and we've got a few people down at the lake investigating a blood covered statue. I honestly have no idea what we are dealing with" He said, rubbing his eyes. "Now we got two suspects, maybe three if the one outside your window was involved and a possible missing person, but until someone notices she missing, we have no idea who..." He finished, turning away from them. "If I could offer you any advice, I'd say your best bet is to stay with a friend at all time... Someone you trust... And don't go hunting for clues at night. This is a police investigation, so I will take care of it alone, Bobby" He snapped, remembering how nosy she could be.
He looked back over his shoulder.
"I'm probably gonna have to bring the FBI in on this one... Seems like more of their kind of thing. I'm not ready for X-Files type shit..." He joked. "So you be careful, and get back inside until we're done. I'll call you later to check on you" Neil stated, adjusting his gun belt.
He looked at John, who was still holding Bobby's hand.
"You seem like a nice guy... Watch after her for me, alright?" He said, opening the door to his cruiser.
"You got it" John called, pulling her closer.
Manson looked up through the drivers window, smiled and fired his finger at him gun before pulling away. John looked at Bobby.
"So now what?" He asked her.

"It's not safe at my place, I know that for sure." she said, as she pulled his hand to go back towards her house. "If you don't mind, maybe your place is better. I'm sure you got lights, right?" she smiled, trying to remain positive. His house was probably more secure for the both of them, instead of being in the dark with no heater. It was still freezing.
"Does that sound like a good idea, or.." she looked up to him, before opening her door to go in and pack a few things, "Do you have a better idea?"

He laughed at his own joke, thinking it was very funny and wanting to not seem lame. It would be safer at his apartment, plus he'd enjoy the company.
"Should I wait here for you while you go to collect your things or come inside?" He asked, not wanting to intrude.

"I'll only be a second." she said, walking in to grab her things.
Entering her room, she grabbed together a few shirts, pants, sweaters and everything else she could need. Locking her windows, and blowing out the few candles lit, she exited the house, approaching John with a smile.
"Didn't take that long, did I?" she raised her eyebrow, walking ahead of him and down the side walk, the large back slung over her shoulder, her feet pattering in the puddles as she walked, waiting for him to catch up and lead the way.

"It's not far... Right over here actually" Noticing a shortcut through a small park.
As the two made their way through the quite wooded area, John looked up at the tree. The leaves were changing, something John hadn't seen since he lived in Georgia. When they reached the other side of the park, he crossed the street to his apartment building.
"Told you I'd get the door next time" He said, stepping back allowing her to enter.
Once inside, he pushed the button on the elevator and waited for it to arrive. While they waited, he found himself again staring at her eyes.
Lovely.
When the lift reached the bottom floor, John allowed Bobby to go first again, pressing the button that would take them to the third floor. The doors slide closed, silencing the small box.

"Thanks for letting me stay with you. Appreciate it." she smiled, trying to break the silence.
The doors opened, and she reached down grabbing her bag. She followed after him.
"Its nice here." she said under her breath.

John led her to Apartment 3A, pausing to take out his key. He fiddled with the lock nervously.
"Just a second" He giggled, look up at her.
He finally was able to open the door. Inside, he made sure to lock the door behind them. If someone was out to get Bobby, he wasn't taking any chances.
"Make yourself at home" He said, motioning over the living room. "I only have one bed, but I don't really use it... So it's all yours, Red" John said with a wink.

"No, this is good. I don't want to take your bed. I mean, its yours, Im just a guest." she said, sitting down upright, almost afraid to touch or stain or leave her fingerprints on any and everything. She took a long look around, running her fingers through her hair to move it out her face.
She leaned over to go through her bag, fidgeting around for her book. She had left it.
"Dammit.." she whispered lowly, looking back up. He looked so tired..
"Why don't you sleep, it'll do you some good."

"I've had insomnia forever. It used to be tough, staying awake for days on end, but now its just another part of my life. I don't really notice it" He said, closing his eyes and laying his head back.
He sighed, tilting his head towards her. He opened his eyes again, locking their eyes.
"I don't want you to worry, alright? As long as I'm around, you'll be safe... I promise" He softly spoke.
John cared immensely for Bobby, and if someone wanted to hurt her, they'd have to deal with him first.
"Over my dead body" John continued.
He paused for a moment, realizing something.
"You know, I've said that before... That I'd do anything to protect someone... But I never meant it" He finished, laying his head on her shoulder.

"You shouldn't have told me that." she smiled, "You got me thinking you might not mean it this time either." she put her hands in her lap, her eyes opening.
"Who did you say that to?" she asked, curiously.

"I told Angela that once... She was my fiance. That didn't end well though" He spoke softly.

"Oh. Well, I'm sorry I even asked." she said, apologizing not knowing if it struck bad memories for him or not.
"We all have a story like that." she paused, "I was with someone before.. kind of long ago. Ancient times." she laughed and continued, "I loved him. But I guess he didn't love me the way I loved him." she shrugged, looking away.
"Good things come to an end, you know. But.. great things last for a lifetime." she smiled. "Better yet, they last for eternity. Just kind of hard to really find the great things in life."
She reached over to grab his hand.
"I'm sure it didn't end all that bad." she looked up.

"Oh, it ended terribly. She came to me one day, sat me down and told me she didn't love me anymore. Then she told me she was sleeping with my best friend... It was rough couple of months after that" He said, looking down. "I've just been waiting on my great thing to come along... But I think things are looking up" John began, leaning closer to her. "What do you think, Bobby?" He asked, kissing her softly on her cheek.

“She was naïve. And made a big mistake.” She smiled, “To me, you’re perfect.”
No one on Gods green earth was perfect. But to Bobby, he was perfection.

"I'm no saint" He whispered, remembering hard days back in New York. "I have my faults... But I'm trying to move passed them" He continued, placing his forehead to hers.
Their eyes we so close now, and for a moment, he forgot about everything. The book, Martin, The murder, his addiction, Angela... Every bad thought that had been pulling him down into the void for the last year and a half vanished, leaving only Bobby. He leaned in close and kissed her gently.
"Thank you... For being you" John said softly, returning to their kiss.
