“Ah~ Xavier: Holá .”

It was Ionia. Of all people to meet in his dream. It was a girl who had the same kind of card he did. If any part of him still believed in the fact that this was an ordinary lucid dream…it disappeared with that. With a scratch at his sideburns he nodded and gave a smile; he was still a bit weary from the jump through the door, Xavier couldn’t manage the patented Wallace-Grin just yet.

“Ionia, yo. One hell of a place to meet up though,” He wasn’t complaining about seeing a friendly face though, anything was better than that bastard of a doppelganger. The place was strange itself, but what he saw at his feet and overhead, through the glass floor and ceiling, gave him chills. It was Olympus. From his position in this ‘room’ he was staring up at Olympus. Hell, he could see his own house from here, bathed in the silver moonlight. And below him, right underneath his feet, was Olympus. But it was sitting in darkness, not the darkness of night but shadow. The feeling it gave him reminded him almost too much of that mirror image of himself he met earlier. The shadow Olympus was encased in a deep fog, with strange looking creatures flying around the skyscrapers. “Stranger shit…” The young man whispered, to himself more than anyone.

“It’s like a the nightclub from hell…” He mumbled as he took inventory of the décor; in front of the duo (they were standing in the center) was a small stage with a piano and a microphone, both dark blue in color, directly in front of that, at the foot of the stage was an extremely comfortable looking, extravagant leather chair, also dark blue, with ebony trims, and finally, behind them was the bar, of course, dark blue In color (who designed this place?) with dark blue seats, there were about nine seats in total, why not ten? Xavier hated odd numbers of things.

At that time, two figures appeared in a whirlwind of light in the peculiar-looking circle in the center of the room. In fact, he had just gave one of them a ride home from school; Daniel Gray and…was it Kari? Kari Ama…something or other, he only knew her by reputation. She was a real firecracker that one.

“Must be the cards,” Xavier joked, stepping closer to the newcomers.

“Wait. You’re the girl that, back in the pa-ah-anyways.” Ionia finally got up from her strange position on the ground, seeing the new arrivals. She seemed more concerned with the girl of the group though, even turning red when she saw her—what was the story there? There was an awkward silence for a few short seconds before the flustered girl roughly changed subjects, “You’re... Dan, right? I met you at Ramen Don?” She said it a bit unsure. Ionia began to pace back and forth in a relaxed manner, going on to address the entire ‘group’ now.

“So, anyone come across some weird things to get here? Just to continue this odd pattern of ‘coincidences.’ Y'know like all meeting yester--toda--on the same day.” Xavier shifted his weight at the question, frowning at the recollection of the clone. "A simple “yea” or “nay” would suffice.” Xavier crossed his arms and shrugged with his shoulders.

“I had a nice cup of tea actually,” He said with a matter-of-fact tone, and he was telling the truth to some extent. “Seriously though, I’m ready for this dream to be over…” As he finished, yet another boy arrived, Xavier hadn’t met him before, but he looked their age, he must have gone to Ida as well.

Daniel however, appeared to be in deep thought before he replied himself. He was mulling something over in his mind, looking at each one of them closely. "Maybe now, in this dream... If this is lucid dreaming, then unlike before..." The junior was nodding, and shut his eyes tight, "How do you make things happen again? Oh yeah, you just think and it happens. OK lets go." There was a period of silence…what the hell was he doing? “Oh SWEET JESUS!” [I] He hollered apparently shaken by the sight of his own eyelids. Xavier blinked at Dan, concerned for his friend’s sanity.

“Uhh…” Xavier scratched his head, “You all right man…?”

[I]"Sooooo, does anyone want to get naked? Everyone in this room is naked, except for Xavier and the kid with the walking stick."

Yep, Dan had officially lost it. It looks like the collective dream was too much on him.

“Well, you heard him ladies, Dan says you’re naked!” Xavier was getting a kick out of this.

Kari eye finally let her saw as she grew more used to the ambient of the strange room, yes sometimes using only one eye to see had more disadvantages than benefits but at least now she was able to recognize where she was standing, without moving her head she moved only the eye practically studying the place, glass floor that let the ones in the room saw the city, a very strange version of the city it looked like those backgrounds specially made for low-budget movies, the only thing that made it look "real" were some strange creatures flying around like if they were waiting for something.

"This is what I get for thinking that things can´t get worse..." Besides the glass floor they were standing in what appeared to be a night club or something similar, if not why there were a piano with a microphone in the middle of the room with expensive looking chairs, it was better that who made all of this wasn´t planning to force them to hear some strange concert, Kari wasnt precisely a fan of the music and if that wasn´t all the so called club had a bar with seats in front of the counter "No bartender? This place is gonna break..."

Ending the study of the place Kari continue moving her eye slowly now studying the people standing on it, apparently her eye had it wrong before, in the room were six people not only two and it was a very "random" group: an odd looking boy with brown skin, a boy with a robotic arm, the blind fella from school, another person from school whose name she had already forgotten but at the same time she was sure he was in the same classroom and the girl she met at the park that recognized her as well.

“Wait. You’re the girl that, back in the pa-ah...” Kari tilted her head to a side watching how the girl´s face got red, somehow she understood that for some good reason she was ending the sentence like that "Another coincidence... I wonder if that girl is still keeping the count for it..." now the girl was talking to the others apparently she knew them too. "You’re... Dan, right? I met you at Ramen Don?" "Right..." Now Kari fully remembered who the boy was, he was the one gave a weak introduction in the school as if he was scared or distracted later one paying attention could tell that he was distracted apparently the teacher´s chest was more interesting to him than the class itself.

“So, anyone come across some weird things to get here? Just to continue this odd pattern of ‘coincidences.’ Y'know like all meeting yester--toda--on the same day...” Kari closed her eye thinking seriously in the question, she faced a clone of herself with a very bad attitude, faced a dragon and almost got her chest crushed by the same, something of that should be weird... "A simple “yea” or “nay” Kari just shooked her head keeping the eye closed, she wasn´t still sure if this was something to share with others.

“I need to talk to you about something important.” Kari opened her eye slowly after hearing a low whisper to see the girl of the park standing at her side, for some reason she looked worried. What in the world could make her worry and that would include her too? She heard a scream coming from Daniel but decided to ignore it still trying to remember what could have happened that make the other girl feel worry, the incoming "snap" made her lost all the wave of though she was having.

"Sooooo, does anyone want to get naked? Everyone in this room is naked, except for Xavier and the kid with the walking stick." Kari just raised her eyebrow, not showing the pity she felt for Daniel. What a wrong way to show his "pervyness" to the others and apparently the others were taking it well, or at least Xavier the brown skinned boy was. “Well, you heard him ladies, Dan says you’re naked!

Kari looked to Daniel from feet to head as if she was considering the idea a moment later she moved her right hand as she was scaring a fly "Nah, not worthy of it... The last person that tried to look at me naked is still paying the price... in some random hospital. Besides I though you liked women with big breasts? You know the way you looked at the teacher..." Kari didn´t know what make her say that. But what she found more surprising was the sound of her voice she sounded very tired and the lifeless tone was gone now she sounded like the smirking clone stoic and monotone, with a quick move she turned to the girl of the park deciding to ignore the boys.

"Well what is this important thing you want to talk about."

Most of them were being avoidant of her earlier question. Dan answered, Xavier was vague but apparently lucky enough to have some tea, and the last one just ignored her.

"Maybe now, in this dream... If this is lucid dreaming, then unlike before..." Dan had been kind enough to answer but was now being stupid enough to continue. "How do you make things happen again? Oh yeah, you just think and it happens. OK let’s go." He then apparently couldn’t make up his mind on whither offering or stating an observation. "Sooooo, does anyone want to get naked? Everyone in this room is naked, apart from the kid with the walking stick and Xavier."

“...” Ionia deftly responded. Xavier’s comment didn’t help. The white haired girl responded oddly, which Ionia had a feeling was the norm for her.

Ionia raised her index finger to Kari and mouthed “Un momento.” She would have to talk to Kari after this. She walked up to Dan placed her hands, one on each shoulder, looked him square in the eyes, said “Wake up” and slapped his cheek.

“Look, I guess I’m supposed to be flattered or something for being a subject of your wet dreams, but I don’t know--nor care to know--what kind of things you fantasize about at night. We’re weirded out enough as it is. So if this is how you are asleep, please do me a favour and wake up.” She let it slide this time considering the situation was probably confusing him.

But now that Dan had brought of such a subject, how could Ionia’s mind not be dragged along that path with his? Imagining how it would turn out for her she started assigning roles. Dan, with no doubt, would be the passive Uke. She didn’t know why. He just was. Xavier did seem the likely Seme, but she would need to know more before judging if he’d work as being the aggressor. Ionia palmed her forehead. What was she doing thinking of this?

Ionia forced out the thoughts and continued pacing. There were two new faces; one was a young man with a prosthetic arm and the other a boy with a walking cane [Ionia thought it safe to assume him blind]. It was getting crowded in here. She didn’t recognise either of them but she’d be willing to bet they each had some kind of Card or another. This wasn’t good, as she’d no longer be able to be unnoticed as she conversed with the girl.

She made her way back and apologized to Kari. “There’s a guy I know....” once again whispering, she took out her camera and, covering the sides of the display, showed the picture of the boy in the park. “He’s mailing the picture around. I hate to say it but he’s a decent photographer. Especially in the manipulating perspectives and angles. Trust me in this, I’ve seen the photo and…” She couldn’t help blushing slightly as she shifted her eyes and barely vocalized the phrase. “It looks like your frenching me.”

"Nah, not worthy of it... The last person that tried to look at me naked is still paying the price... in some random hospital. Besides I though you liked women with big breasts? You know the way you looked at the teacher..." Xavier listened on with all the enjoyment of a child who had front row seats to their sibling’s spanking. The sly comment from the eyepatch-wearing girl was expected, from her reputation at least, but what Ionia did took him by surprise—pleasant surprise.

She slapped him. She slapped the crap out of him. The way the smack echoed, Xavier wondered if the people back in Olympus could here it. “Wake up.” Was all she said. And even with the smack, he felt like Ionia was letting young Dan off with just a warning. Sheesh.

Xavier was sitting at the bar table, on one of the blue stools, watching the whole time with a goofy smile on his face. Briefly—he imagined Kari as Dan had tried to before; but before he could even take it all in, he imagined her putting him in the hospital…just like the other poor sap she mentioned. He would have let his mind wander to Ionia, but the fact that she was a freshman prevented that one.

“This is some place…” The atmosphere of this place was unreal, it kind of reminded him of that room he dreamed of last night. But this one was different; while the room from last night felt broken, this one left him feeling…what was the word? Not hopeful…something else… “Can’t even think straight today…tch.” Xavier shook his head.

“Drink to clear your mind friend?” An old, raspy voice called out. The senior spun around in the stool, a bit shaken by the new voice—yet another person who appears behind you—great. This time, the man was a portly looking fellow, probably on in his age, late fifties perhaps. He dressed in a white dress shirt and black vest and pair of black slacks. He was red faced, perhaps sipping on his own product before hand, and had scraggly gray hair and golden eyes. His sleeves were rolled up revealing his patchy arm hair. He was smiling at Xavier as he cleaned a single tall glass with his white rag.

“I guess being underage doesn’t mean much here, ya know…seeing how this is a dream and all.” The man nodded turning around he grabbed a random bottle off the rack behind him and poured it smoothly into the glass he had just gotten done cleaning. Xavier took the glass from the man once he handed it his way, tipping it in thanks before taking it down.

“Wow, I should have guessed…” The drink was the same exact tea Atlas had given him earlier.
He turned around to look at the gang again, this time, watching as a newcomer arrived in the same way the others had—it was Saiya. “That makes most of us…” Xavier nodded to himself, that’s it. It must have been the cards.

“You should go join ‘em. The show will start soon.” Xavier turned his head back towards the bartender, who was motioning for him to go back towards the center with his friends.

“Not like I have a choice in the matter,” He swished the two drops of tea he had left in the glass around, “I’m out of tea anyway. Thanks for the drink,” The student set the glass down and grinned at the bartender before walking towards the others.

“Saiya, welcome to the party,” Xavier joked as he stepped into the center of the large circular design with the others. “They’ve got some decent drinks here, you all should grab one before the show starts.” A single spotlight fell upon the stage—guess the drinks would have to wait.

A man materialized from a mass of golden specks that came upon the wind at the seat of the piano, another appeared just beside the piano, brandishing a black violin, while a woman appeared near the microphone in the same fashion. The man was dressed in a black suit, he had messy black hair, and wore a blue blindfold over his eyes. The second man was dressed the exact same way, save the blind fold. He was bald, with golden eyes and a bushy gray mustache. The woman was beautiful in her black dress and black silk gloves, with porcelain skin long black hair that flowed past her shoulders. Her eyes, much like the bartender and violinist, were golden, she had a beauty mark just underneath her lips, which were dressed in blue lipstick. She took a look at her audience as a loud roar came from seemingly nowhere.

The woman counted down her partner at the piano, and with a crack of his knuckles, the show began.

At first Kari had problems trying to understand what Ionia told her, she got the part that both were caught in a photo by some acquittance of her, but the last part sure was hard to understand mostly because the girl´s voice barely sounded when she said it ... "What does frenching means anyway..." After a moment of looking to the floor a little memory hit her. Some years before, when she cared more in counting how many days would pass before anyone dared to stand before her, she was able to hear a conversation from two members of her gang. Apparently they successfully recorded a boy frenching another member of the gang that was pretending to be a weak, quiet and shy girl, when she asked what frenching was the answer she got between mad laughs was that it was kissing someone deeply in very erotic way.

"So that´s what keep her so worry..." Of course the girl of the park was normal, ok as normal as she could be if she was standing there, probably she wasn´t used to the harassment of other people, but to be honest this was nothing there were more... subtle ways to harass someone with a picture, methods that supposedly she was trying to forget.

"You say you know this person, right? Is he the type to this kind of jokes? Does he hates you in some way?" Or better, does he has something against you?" Kari entered her "business" mode something she used to keep people at calm showing them a peaceful attitude and a bit of their own attitude "reflected ,in this came a little of "shame ", usually it worked and Kari had to admit that it was even more effective now that her voice sounded stoic and monotone, "Think seriously in the answer, if you answer yes to any of them except for the first one... well we can´t do anything and will tell you why." With a slow move she crossed her arms over her chest keeping the same uninterested look "It has be done as easy at that if they were... let´s say pasted at the school´s boards at least it would be a momentary shame, if they were shown in front of a lot of people it would be again a momentary shame, but if he passed it at soon as he was done playing with them I can only think that he plans to make this last a lot of time... If you go and denied he will only add fuel to the fire, if we both go we will only give him more reasons to show his point, if I go and kick his brain out and send him to... Well let´s say that it would be very suspicious at the end..."

With another slow moment Kari raised her sight to ceiling watching that it was also made of glass and it was showing the Olympus City she knew after a moment she lowered it focusing in Ionia´s opened eye. "And if you answer is no to any of my questions I can only say that he has a very sick sense of humor and clearly doesn´t know with who he is messing... if you insist on going after him... well good luck with that one. I don´t mind the rumors I can say that I´m very used to the..."

A sound coming from the stage interrupted Kari, she raised her eyebrow once more watching how a mysterious band had appeared and was playing the instruments with a tone that made her feel very strange. "Great just what we needed, a freak tune played by weirdos..."

Aria of the Soul

Xavier watched with a childlike interest at the scene as it played out. The piece at the beginning must have been just an introduction, a duet between the violinist and the piano-man. The woman in the black dress stepped closer to the microphone now, wrapping her hand around the old ribbon-style microphone she took a deep breath and opened her eyes. Yet again the ‘crowd’ (was it a sound recording?) roared.

“Whoa!” Xavier hollered as the violinist burst into a mass of golden flecks, surrounding the stage in a fashion reminiscent of a dazzling tornado. This was on hell of a show. The woman began to sing against the Piano-Man’s rift, the two sounds blended together to create a tune as moving as it was ominous.

The invisible crowd let out a gasp as the golden particles, which were once surrounding the stage, flew over onto the floor below. Xavier stepped back, just a bit frightened by the specks as they floated the group’s way—but they weren’t hostile, they just wanted to party. For each member, a mass of the tiny golden spheres came, they surrounded them with a warm dandelion aura: Xavier was beaming at the sensation.

The singer smiled sweetly at the children, holding her arm out their way she broke away from her aria, “Ladies and gentlemen of the Velvet Room, I need you to help me welcome the one responsible for all of this, he’s the captain of this ship that rides upon the Sea of Souls, the one who walks between mind and matter, and the one inside all of our dreams,” A mass of golden spots gathered on top of the chair at the foot of the stage, Xavier watched as they gathered to create the silhouette of a man.

The flecks around the students flew back upon the stage, quickly, but still with their former grace, they worked to recreate the fellow with the violinist, who bowed briefly at them with a small smile.

The invisible crowd roared and delivered a flurry of claps and whistles. The Piano-Man still played however, it seemed his tune would not stop for anything.

“Demetri Maverick!”

Sitting now inside of the fancy blue leather chair was a dread-locked man, he had his back pressed against the seat, with one arm draped dully over his left leg, which was crossed over his right, while his right one was folded smoothly under his chin. Like the other members of this strange place, he had bright golden eyes, but his seemed to have an entirely different life in them than the others’ did.

“Welcome kids, to the Velvet Room,” At his welcome the Piano-Man played two sharp keys, “This place is all for you, it’s a haven, sitting between dream and reality, mind and matter, and wedged right in the center of all of your Seas of Soul,” Another two hard keys dropped after the host’s words, “Like our lovely songstress Belladonna so kindly said, I am Demetri. I’m taking over this place in my Master’s stead…he’s…under-the-weather at the moment.” Despite his tone at the final bit of his sentence, the dread-locked individual didn’t seem to beat-up about his Master’s condition.

Xavier wasn’t sure what to make of the man, but something, something told him not to dare challenge him.

“I’ll be more than happy to answer any of your questions, it’s my job as a host of course.” He had gave them an eerie looking smile.

Xavier watched the man closely, the smug way he had of speaking, the casual way he sat, and the way he looked at them—it all served to rub him the wrong way. He had only met Demetri, but he was almost 100% certain he would not like him.

As he opened up the topic to free question and answer, Saiya stepped closer to Xavier. She was probably as put off by dreads as they all were, he discreetly gave her a smile—trying to comfort her at least a bit.

The kid with the walking stick had some guts, he began to speak to the man, grasping his cane tightly as he did so.

"Who is your master, and what exactly happened to your him or her?" The two of them were having a stare down it seemed, and Demetri smiled.

“His mind is severely warped at the moment you see?” He pulled his other hand away from under his chin, draping it over the arm of the chair. Xavier blinked at this exact second, and as soon as he opened his eyes, Demetri was gone from his seat. The man with the gold eyes was now standing right in front of the blind boy, a toothy smirk on his face—if he was trying to make them comfortable…this was not the way to do it. “We’re not enemies Hex, so why don’t you relax a bit?” He was leaning over the kid’s shoulder, one hand resting lightly on top of it, while the other grabbed the boy’s walking stick. If one was looking into his golden irises, they could see a flicker that said ‘don’t even try it’.

“Holy hell…” Xavier muttered with a blank visage. He wasn’t only amazed by the speed in which he got over here, but it looked like he knew the blind boy’s name…made as much sense as anything else going on today.

The host quickly pulled away from ‘Mr. Hex’ to address them all. The Piano-Man delivered a quick flurry of keys briefly, breaking away from his steady melody from before.

“Any other questions? I’m hoping we can get a long a bit better than that right there…” He scratched his head with an exhausted expression, “I hate confrontation.”

"Explain these, and why we are here.” The boy with the cane asked him, in a way that made Demetri crack yet another one of those wry smiles. He nodded before he waved his hand through the air.

“Haven’t you figured it out by now? It’s your destiny. This place is just the vessel you’ll use to pave a way to it.” The dread-locked host pointed with one elongated finger to the card Jordan was holding up, just as he thought, Mr. Hex was of the Chariot Arcana. “As for those,” He quickly shifted his position, in a flash he was sitting in his chair yet again. The Piano-Man played him a quick foreboding backdrop to his action.

“The people that each one of you met today we’re friends of mine, I instructed them all to create a scenario to test the worth of those they come across, and you all are the only ones that passed the tests. Congratulations, you’re good people.” The invisible crowd returned again with a cheer for the students, which only served to make the hairs on Xavier’s neck stand up. “Those cards are of the Arcana, normally their just parts of a fortune teller’s deck, but these are special…they’re the key to your Persona.” Demetri leaned forward in his chair to look hard and long at all of them. “Each one of you have the scent about you, the scent of a Persona-User. From now on, you’re lives will be completely different—whether you like it or not.”

Xavier gulped—a different life? …What did he mean by that? Sure…staring dead at a clone of yourself, and then meeting an old man with a giant boombox…who says he’s signed a contract with you was strange…but…life changing? Please.

“Are these cards really that big of a deal…? And what is a Persona? Atlas—I mean…someone I know mentioned that but I still don’t follow…” Xavier didn’t want to sound out there with his story, but then again, what could make him sound anymore crazy than just being here already did? Demetri bent both of his arms up at the side of his head.

“Atlas, Kimiko, Priapus, Zeral, Clio, Chronopsis. –Each one of you has already met them. They’re your Personae, and they’ve forged the pact with you. My master, as well as some folk outside refer to them as masks that manifest during your life to face hardship. I call them spirits that stay by your side when the going gets tough.” Dreads’ eyes narrowed and his face got a little more stern, “Trust me when I say, you’ll need them. There’s a storm on the horizon.” His visage softened as he leaned back in his seat and crossed his left leg over his right again, “And trust me when I say you all are dead in the center of it all. The eye of the storm is anything but calm in this situation my friends.” After this, Demetri realized that what he said might have hit the kids with a bit of nerves, he grinned warmly, “Don’t worry though, I’ve read your destiny, and it’s a very bright one. If anyone can get us there, it’s you all.”

Xavier frowned, “Destiny…sheesh…one helluva Friday.” He shrugged.

“You’re against this Xavier?” Demetri mocked concerned at the boy’s statement. Xavier bumped his fists together in a brutish manner, a fire in his brown eyes.

“Not at all, I’ve always whined about my life being boring up until now…just tell me what I have to do, and I’ll do it,” He sighed and slumped over, “Is what I’d like to say. But I don’t even know what the hell is going on here really. Why the hell are why in the middle of this storm thing? We’re just high-school kids man…” He had almost forgotten that he was supposed to be sound asleep in his own bed, awaiting the second day of his senior year. But here he was now, in the middle of some supernatural club, beside people he barely even knew, facing down an otherworldly band and their wacked host.

“There’s a mystery going on where you come from. A lost girl, if I’m not mistaken. Her fate is directly intertwined with yours. There’s one out there that wishes to monopolize the minds of your world and that girl is the key.”

Xavier’s eyes widened; the girl he was speaking on had to be Tsuki Murakami, the Eos Corp. girl. Why was she wrapped up in all of this?

“And then there’s a thing called the Inspiration,” He shook his head, “But I’m getting ahead of myself, that’s for another time. For now, all you need to know is that in order to fulfill your destiny, you need to get to the bottom of this mystery revolving around the missing girl, clear the clouds of the storm that are gathering around your city—and you might just prevent that shadow below you from arising.” Demetri pointed to the dark Olympus below. “You all will have to pull together, summon your power and push back the forces that wish to take over your world. Sounds like a movie doesn’t it?” He giggled like a child. “The time will soon come for you to wield your power as a Persona-User.” He grinned, “Of course it will be up to you whether or not you want to wield it…” He paused, letting that bit sit in.

Xavier was going to crack if he heard one more vague answer today.

“So…you’re putting the fate of the world on our shoulders…but then giving us the choice whether or not to drop it all?” Demetri nodded at Xavier’s words.

“Exactly! I can’t make you do anything you don’t want to Xavier.” The host gave a cheeky grin, brushing away a few stray dreads from his face. –He was one hell of a character that Maverick. “I’m curious though…everyone’s Sea of Soul, and what they see there is different…what did you all see?” Xavier wondered if Demetri truly didn’t know what they all saw back when they were alone. He sure seemed like he knew just about everything else.

“Tch, one scary looking bastard…he looked like me, except he was all shadowy, just like that city underneath us,” Xavier clinched his fist, “Said some things that made me think long and hard you know? And that’s when I met Atlas—my Persona…right?” He looked at Demetri as if he was searching for approval. The senior was hesitant to relay the details of the info, but it wasn’t like there was hiding anything from this all knowing character.

Saiya welcomed Xavier’s smile of assurance but couldn’t summon a return one. The room was creeping her out too much and since this wasn’t a dream...that meant that the other place she had visited was real too. So was that creepy girl....all of this was just getting too much and on top of everything Demetri scared the crap out of her. Was what his problem? Then the blind boy spoke up and Demetri flashed over to him and Saiya jumped and hid even more behind Xavier. Sure it was really embarrassing to be this scared and depending on a total stranger but it was all she had for now since she only knew the others by sight. The girl with the eye patch...she thought her name was Kari. She wouldn’t be so bad to hide behind either since she looked like she could handle anything that came her way, but that would draw attention to her and she really wanted to remain out of focus here.

Slowly they learned about the cards, something called persona and a destiny they supposedly shared. Not to mention the sudden burden of having to solve a case that even the police couldn’t solve. Curious enough to muster her courage she stepped from behind Xavier to stand beside him normally. The words that Kimiko – her persona – had said went through her mind.

“Well done child. I, Kimiko pledge my services to you.” She lifted her hand and waved away the chess board completely. She must have seen Saiya’s confused face as she started to explain. “The first trial could be won only by cheating and therefore showed thy honour when you lost. The second trial could be won only by taking advantage of the enemy’s weakness no matter how underhanded it may seem and therefore showed thy cunning and ability to do what must be done. The third trial could only be passed by refusing my request and therefore showed your loyalty to others. I am yours.”

Her ability to do what must be done...somehow that beautiful and powerful creature had decided that she was worthy of being its master. So she should be able to ask some questions since it had to be done. Saiya plastered on her facade and she became the confident calm person she normally was. It had taken her years to be able to bring it up at will to fool others but she was a master now.

“A destiny? Not to mention we have to solve a case that the best detectives and probably an entire police department can’t solve? That isn’t very likely. Also these Sea of Souls thing, you make them sound extremely personal so why would we blab them out for the entire room?” Crossing her arms in front of her she shifted and her hip cocked from the way she was staning.

"You say you know this person, right?” Yes: Ionia had opened with that statement.

“Is he the type to pull this kind of jokes?” Yes: There had been nothing this drastic before, but Ionia had a feeling that it was because he hadn’t had the opportunity to this point.

“Does he hate you in some way?" ...Yes: the feeling was mutual between the two of them.

"Think seriously in the answer, if you answer yes to any of them except for the first one... well we can´t do anything and will tell you why." ...Well, shite.

The girl herself didn’t seem all too concerned about being in the picture. She was being somewhat empathetic, which surprised Ionia a bit. Perhaps she had gotten the wrong first impression, and Ionia didn’t have all too much reason to be afraid of her [though, to be honest, she was still uneasy around her]. Her advice on how to deal with the rumor wasn’t all too helpful. In fact, her advice was that there wasn’t anything to do. Ionia could have come up with that option herself.

Her thoughts were interrupted when an eerie song started playing from a band that hadn’t been there before [Couldn’t people just be in the rooms to begin with instead of doing that?] The violinist only played one song before disintegrating [Again: couldn’t they just stay in the room?] and reforming [...now the trend was almost getting ridiculous]. A man named Demetri also had appeared, Ionia couldn’t say much about him except that she didn’t like him; she didn’t know why. The way he vaguely threatened the blind one probably didn’t help.

Ionia was doubtful that Demetri didn’t know each and every one of their ‘Sea of Souls’ as he called them. Hearing Xavier speak of his made her feel better, perhaps just the fact that others were going through similar experiences calmed her. Ionia thought she might as well share. Not to Demitri, but to the others here.

“It was just a Photography Darkroom. I met Clio there; she helped me with my vertigo.” They didn’t need to know of the Noose. “My doppelganger, however, completely ignored me. Well, except for the fact she wanted me dead.” Her voice lowered. “...She wasn’t very photogenic either.” She had wanted to delete that photo from her camera, but something inside of her prevented her from going through with it.

“That doesn’t seem very likely.” Ionia noticed the last female in the room was hiding behind Xavier. It made sense. He seemed like the type to take he’d take a hit for you just because he felt it was right.

“Methinks probability is not really the problem here.” She corrected Saiya. “The police probably can’t solve the case for the same reason we can.” She turned to Demetri and asked her questions. “The missing girl: she has something to do with these ‘persona’ doesn’t she? That’s why it’s us you’re asking. That also must mean that we could not be ‘chosen’ but instead it is, in part, random. ‘Destiny’ as you had put it.”

“A destiny? Not to mention we have to solve a case that the best detectives and probably an entire police department can’t solve? That isn’t very likely. Also these Sea of Souls thing, you make them sound extremely personal so why would we blab them out for the entire room?”

Demetri was nodding hard at the student’s words. First at Xavier’s willingness to speak, at least he wasn’t too secretive about it. Then at Saiya’s blatant refusal, and way of questioning him. And finally, at Ionia’s dead on the nose deduction.

Overwhelmed with approval of them he gave them his own thunderous applause. “Exactly. You hit the nail on the head Ionia.” Demetri folded his arms and closed his eyes to reflect, “Tsuki Murakami, that girl is special. Like I said before, she’s the key, not only to your destiny, but the entire future of the world as you know it. I’m just your guide on this journey, though I’ve seen the end, it’s up to you all to fulfill it. It is only you all that can fulfill this, the cops can try all they want, but they’ll bare not fruit. Tsuki’s way to far gone to be pulled back by simple, mundane means.” He folded his hands into his lap, looking at the group of student’s longingly: he wondered how they would respond to this sudden responsibility thrust upon them. Normal children would simply turn away, go back and sleep soundly in their beds as if none of this had ever happened. Would they?

“….” Xavier was silent. He had been staring long and hard at the city below his feet since Demetri had mentioned it earlier. If what dreads said was true, then if they failed, Olympus would look just like that place. He had family there, and friends there. The senior, in all good conscience couldn’t live with that. How could he even go back with that on his mind if he refused his destiny. “Said you wanted a life of action,” The young man was speaking to himself, but in a tone in such he was sure everyone could hear him, “Don’t back out now. Yeah.” He clapped his hands together and rubbed them between each other, his entire body language radiated confidence. The student—no, the Persona-User, had an inferno raging in his eyes, and his trademarked grin was in rare form.

“How could I sleep right if I didn’t give it my best shot to save this place? I don’t know how hard it’ll be, but I know I damn sure can’t leave everybody I know hanging. I’ve got people to look out for you know?”

A smile crept upon Demetri’s face. Just as he had expected. Xavier Wallace was one of those ‘hero’ types. He wondered how long the boy would be able to keep that up, once things truly began. But for now, it was a refreshing thing to watch. Even the Piano-Man’s melancholy tune seemed just an octave brighter.

“Very well then. Xavier of the Hanged Man. You’re officially a Persona-User.” He watched them all carefully, studying their facial expressions closely. “Anyone else?”

Saiya listened to the girl she didn't know and thoguht about it that way. It made sense...but she still didn't think that having the persona ability would ensure success. After all the man kept saying it was up to them all the way through. That meant they just had an extra special case to deal with and the little girl was involved in something that was beyond most people. Yes the influence of this other world would make it next to impossible for normal police to solve the case but...just because they were now involved in this weird world didn't mean that they could solve the case. Sure they were the only ones that seemed to be capable of doing so but that didn't mean they would. She listened to Xavier talk himself into it and then thought on it herself. She put a couple fingers on her forehead and tilted her head down as she thought about it. Saiya wasn't a hero and she knew it....but she had somethign to prove to herself. Besides, if she was part of this group then she was part of the group. So far she hadn't had a single choice in the matter and all of a sudden this man thought they had one? You didn't tell someone that the world rested one htier shoulders, force them to go through that Sea of Souls thing and then expect them to believe in the choice you gave them. Live and possibly save the world or die along wiht it. Wasn't much of a choice. Demetri didn't answer her back so she wasn't sure if he approved of her attitude towards things or not but she decided to speak up again.

"I don't see much choice. It is either that or die with the rest of Olympus. Or suffer with it. I personally am not a fan of death or suffering so I suppose I'll have to help. However..." She turned her head to look at the girl who had spoke up before. "I can see that we may be the only ones able to solve this case and stop what is happening...but Demetri has made clear he is just a guide. Everything is up to us until the end. Just because we are here or say yes doesn't mean that we will suceed. I understand and agree with what you are saying but we have to keep in mind we are just a bunch of highschoolers who are trying to solve a mystery that just got even more complex than it originally was." She looked back to Demetri. She was still scared of him but she wasn't going to go and hide now that her facade was in place and she could act normal. "Also...I don't think you can make us or not make us persona users. I seem to remember Kimiko pledging herself to me afterall. She said nothing about a probabtion while we wait for permission from the creepy guy in the weird blue room." Saiya wasn't being rude to anyone - at least she knew she wasn't, how people saw it was up to them - but she liked to speak her mind.

Kari remained in her quiet attitude watching how the things in the room were developing, apparently most of the guys were as lost as her, while she thought that she was finally adapting to the music played by the strange something happened that raise all of her defenses and to be honest anyone would craze if suddenly sounds of a crowd were to sound from nowhere when supposedly only the group of boys was there.

"What the..." Alright Kari had to admit that she show was really becoming into something great as some stranges lights started to flew around the group, it was strange... watching at the lights confused Kari, but at the same time she felt a warm feeling of ease, a feeling that was harshly cut when a man appeared on the stage introducing himself as Demetri Maverick and she barely felt real fear as she saw the man something wasn´t right in him.

"Master? If one like him that acts like that is calling someone master, I wonder... How will the master be?" Kari started to feel something different for the man, no only fear but respect too. Something in her, probably a 5th sense that appeared after fighting for so long, was telling that it was better to maintain a low profile with him as he could easily left her in a puddle made with her own blood. Her point was proved when the blind kid try to act thought to Dimitri who in one moment was sitting and at the next was standing at the side of the boy stopping his actions quickly. "What the hell was that? Shintai Gouken? No, no normal person can move that fast without leaving a trace... Just what is he?" And once more the man was in the chair talking about something related to Destiny, Arcana, some key , life changing situation and something about a vessel. To be honest Kari lost her attention into the fuzziness when she heard the name Zeral. The dragon had dragged her into a something very very strange.

Kari´s mind wandered as the rest of the conversation between Dimitri and Xavier continued in very different things: things about his life, some girl called Tsuki Murakami, then something about the inspiration and the power to summon their own power to fight shadows. It wasn´t like she wasn´t paying attention or cared about it, she actually was hearing but the though of wonder of why she was there was taking more space in her mind than anything, but it lasted for a moment as once more Dimitri managed to broke her concentration asking what they saw in something called the sea of souls, Kari though really hard as a girl that was behind Xavier talked.

“A destiny? Not to mention we have to solve a case that the best detectives and probably an entire police department can’t solve? That isn’t very likely. Also these Sea of Souls thing, you make them sound extremely personal so why would we blab them out for the entire room?”

Kari whispered softly "Kyoto destroyed and left in rubbles..." as Ionia, the girl from the park, told her version of what she saw and then corrected the girl, until now Kari had not made nay opinion of the girl as she though that maybe she would never saw her again, now she was placing in her more respect after hearing her correction.

“Methinks probability is not really the problem here. The police probably can’t solve the case for the same reason we can.” “The missing girl: she has something to do with these ‘persona’ doesn’t she? That’s why it’s us you’re asking. That also must mean that we could not be ‘chosen’ but instead it is, in part, random. ‘Destiny’ as you had put it.”

Dimitri seemed satisfied as claps were heard... "Exactly. You hit the nail on the head Ionia. Tsuki Murakami, that girl is special. Tsuki’s way to far gone to be pulled back by simple, mundane means.

"In other words is all up to us..." Kari sighed within , guiding a gang was an acceptable act, asking her to change was still within the limits... but ask her to act as a hero was something outrageous, she was in the opposite side of the scale of the morals or the ethic to begin... She simply wasn´t an appropriate candidate to do this, after all even now she still was a former delinquent. Who would trust in her in this? For some reason she remembered the question that Zeral made her, but in a different way. "Kari what are hermits supposed to do?" Heck how should she know? She didn´t even know the real answer for the definition of hermit.

Then Xavier started to talk at first it seemed like it was randomly, but then he snapped full of confidence. “How could I sleep right if I didn’t give it my best shot to save this place? I don’t know how hard it’ll be, but I know I damn sure can’t leave everybody I know hanging. I’ve got people to look out for you know?”

Kari closed her eye thinking deeply in what to do, she wasn´t like the boy with brown skin, unlike him she was alone and had no real reason to fight, but wait she had for how to fight. Didn´t she promise her uncle and to herself to change once for all? Maybe this was what she needed. Dimitri´s words traveled in her mind "Good people... life changing experience... eye of the storm... bright destiny... The people that each one of you met today we’re friends of mine... prevent that shadow below you from arising..."

Kari opened her eye with determination as she heard how the girl behind Xavier talked, there were a lot of truth in her words after all Zeral almost crushed her no Dimitri, but still she took breathe to talk she had already decided what to do and she hoped that the stoic would be heard instead of the lifeless one.

"She is right, we might fail not matter what you say of even if you really accept us or not. But I know that Zeral placed me here for something and I shall do it. I may not like what is expecting me, but I will still do it. My reasons may not be as noble as the ones the rest have here. But you said that those "friends" that resemblance us answered to your call... I don´t want to see a mob of things that act like them roaming the city when we could have stop them... I will do this... because I have to do it."

It looked like Saiya was going along with it, but before she actually agreed, she had some choice words old Demetri.

"Also...I don't think you can make us or not make us persona users. I seem to remember Kimiko pledging herself to me afterall. She said nothing about a probation while we wait for permission from the creepy guy in the weird blue room."

Demetri chucked, amused. Whether or not she meant to come off as coarse as she did didn’t concern him; it was interesting to be talked to as if everyone didn’t look up to you for a change. That was another reason why he went to the real world for so long, up there he was just another average joe working as a P.I.—down here he was much more. Responsibility weighed hard, and even he needed that weight relieved sometimes.

“You’re right, you don’t really need me to be a Persona-User, you already are. Buuuut…” His voice trailed off as he pointed to the circle on which they all stood, “You need me to go home right? And trust me when I say we’ll need each other very soon. I don’t want to rely on people I don’t approve of,” Dreads’ eyes narrowed, “You’ll understand that yes?” Of course, he wasn’t setting out to be sharp with his words; they just came out like that. “We’re going to be teammates after this. So let’s play nice alright? Mizz Sakishita?” He smiled smoothly.

It was Kari who spoke up next. She had looked distant the entire time, well, more distant than normal. The conversation, or perhaps the meeting with her Shadow and Persona stirred up some thought.

“Indeed. It wouldn’t be a pretty sight at all, I’ve seen it occur before,” Demetri paused, watching her closely, “Nobel reasons aren’t always the right ones my friend, we just gotta go with what best motivates us.” Only three left, he wondered what they had to say about fulfilling their destiny, which was so suddenly thrust upon them.

“You’d essentially imprison us here if we don’t cooperate? What do you care of Olympus? You seem to fit in here at this place just fine.” Demetri blinked in surprise, had he let that bit slide? Or did she just interpret that from some words he had said earlier. Either way, he might as well let them in.

“I may have been born in this realm, but I still spend a lot of time up there, I find this world too confining for my tastes. Olympus is unlike any other city I’ve ever been to, and not only because of its obvious floating charm. The minds of you people that live there, they’re so…different. I can think of any other word for it. I’ve been to a lot of places in my time, and Olympus is the only one that has made me want to intervene in its destiny directly—but I can’t.” Xavier watched as the man bit his lip with a wave of frustration. He sensed something in the host that he hadn’t before: sincerity. It wasn’t like the senior didn’t believe that Demetri was sincere with them from the start though, it was just that right now he could actually see that he was sincere with them. He must have actually, truly cared about Olympus.

“You can’t just take things in your own hands? Even if we weren’t around?” Xavier couldn’t fathom having so much power (as Demetri clearly had) but unable to use an ounce of it. Dreads smiled sheepishly and nodded.

“Yep. There’s a set of rules people like me have to follow, we can’t intervene with the events in the outside world. Everything is mapped out by destiny, and if we toy with that, then everything could go haywire. Humanity may think they’ve seen discord, but that was all in the cards, throw destiny off her train tracks and you’ll be faced with one hell of a fall.” He pointed back with his thumb towards the singer, didn’t Demetri give them her name? He couldn’t remember for sure, and the Piano-Man, who was still playing his tune to back the woman’s melody. “Belladonna and Nameless have to abide by the same rules, same thing with Grigori back there at the bar. We can’t directly interact with the outside world in such a way that its destiny will be changed. In fact, these three are completely confined to this room, we call it the Velvet Room.”

The Velvet Room, fitting enough for a place that already felt like a nightclub. A twisted nightclub, but a nightclub all the same. Xavier cracked a small smile at the name.

“This place is the direct manifestation of the vessel that drives you towards your destiny. It’s like a meeting place for all of your souls. It’ll do you good do get used to it, if you agree to follow that said destiny. I think I’ve talked enough, I’m going to let the others speak to you for a second, Belladonna?” Demetri turned his head towards the stage, waving his hand in a grand manner to the two occupants of the risen platform. The woman in the black dress smiled sweetly.

“I am Belladonna. My song serves only to help open the doors to the heart and soul, in order to keep your Seas of Soul connected. I look forward to see what future you children bring about. Nameless?” She spoke only briefly, quickly going back to her aria. But there was now a certain twinkle in her eyes after speaking to the children, joy at her sense of duty perhaps?

The man turned his head to the children, it was at that point that Xavier realized that the Piano-Man didn’t even have a sheet of music to look upon. –He realized it must have been because his eyes were blindfolded to begin with, but why even blindfold them? Was he just blind? Or…

“Greetings. I am Nameless. The Piano-Man. My name is as insignificant as my past. My present and future lie in playing my song. The song is a masterpiece, and is as long as your path to your destiny. So long as my fingers touch these keys, your destiny lies unfulfilled. It is only until I reach the note of this piece that you will reach the end of your journey. Think of me as your theme music.” Nameless turned his head from them, and once again focused on his duties. Never raising his head again for anything else, it appeared he was deathly serious of his job. Xavier admired that.

“And that’s that, now I fear that I’ve taken a bit too long with my calling you here. I better get you back. Like the girls said, it isn’t up to me whether or not you become a Persona-User. When the time comes for you to wield your power, the choice is up to you whether or not to fight,” Demetri snapped his fingers, causing the circle on the center of the floor to ‘activate’. It glowed with a bright blue light, which grew into a tall, solid shaft, which shot all the way up towards their version of Olympus.

Xavier’s mouth dropped at the sight, he was expecting something awesome from that circle, but never that right there. He whistled with a sense of awe.

“Nice…so this will send us home?” The senior stepped up closer to the contraption, looking it up and down gingerly.

“Yep. It’ll put you back into the realm of consciousness, you’ll go right back to sleep in your cozy little bed. Can’t do anything about the fatigue you’ll feel once you wake up though, so try not to fall asleep in class eh? Books are important ya know?” The man chuckled.

Xavier let out a sigh and rubbed his neck, a bit put off by the part about fatigue. It was hard enough waking up for school as is, but how the hell would he wake up at 6 after all of this? Beats all doesn’t it? He thought to himself with a serious dismay.

“Fine, fine. I’m whipped anyway…” Xavier inched even closer to the column of light. With a deep breath, he pressed his hand against it, and, it fazed right through it. Once he pulled it back, just like after stepping out of the blue door, it felt all tingly.

“Relax, just step on in. You’ll be back in your bed instantly. Sheesh…” Demetri shooed the boy off.

“I just wanna be careful…what if this thing chops off my arm or somethin’? What if it chops of my left arm? Or what about my foot? Feet are expensive…”

“Go!”

Xavier yelped, and hurried into the pillar of blue light. Almost instantly, his body began to ‘fade’ out, like the picture on a faulty television. His last glimpse of the Velvet Room was of Shadow Olympus below…the future that awaited his city if he…they, didn’t do their job.

Feelings of that obligation, and pride at his new position as Persona-User surely stuck with him as he arrived back home in his bed. The only uncertainty in the fact being that he was immediately put back to sleep once his head hit the pillow. Or did his body never leave? There was no use in trying to make sense of it…destiny was an elusive thing.

Demetri whistled with delight as Xavier faded out.

“Looks like it works alright. Now its you all’s turn. Go on, step on in. There’s still time for a good night’s rest.”

Shadow Olympus, Late Night

LIGHT

A young girl, not even fourteen, sat atop a single balcony on the highest floor of the highest skyscraper in Olympus. Yes, it sat right in the center of the city, and it rose so high that it cut through the intense fog that surrounded it. Denizens of the original Olympus know this complex as the Eos Corp. skyscraper, but in Shadow Olympus it was simply an unnamed mass of steel and concrete. Those who dwelled in this city didn’t care much for names…seeing how they never had one of their own. Doppelgangers held immense disgust for their counterparts who lived in the peaceful world above they had they’re own names, and they’re own identities. But shadows did not, they sat underneath they’re original, simply harboring what feelings they refused to carry. So much baggage did the typical shadow have to carry. It was a life which would easily drive anyone insane.

But this girl, and those who dwelled within the skyscraper with her, were not shadows. They were humans. Who decided to dive into the darkness on their own accord, following behind the man who gave them all some sense of worth. They had a job to do; change the world. It was their destiny. That was what he said. And she took those words to heart more than perhaps any one of them.

Tsuki Murakami was what they called her. With her head of gray-blonde hair and her somewhat distant looking violet eyes, she gripped her sketchbook tight. A half drawn picture was upon its open page, it was of a man with long wine colored hair, and a cracked butterfly mask. Letters in the corner read PHIL, in large black letters. The expression on his face was blank, but his eyes were wide with a kind of hope.

She brushed away a few stray flakes of eraser, and clutched pad tight to her chest.

* *

A single fellow sat in a large black leather chair. The back of the chair faced the door, while he looked out of the window on the back wall with a wild smile on his face. He watched as the serpent-esuqe creatures cut through the fog, as the ravens fluttered past the window all with an excited grin.

Shadows

“Sir?” A woman dressed in lolita came through the metallic, sliding doors with a bow at him. “Seth and Henderson are outside, should I send them in?” The pale skinned woman asked in a meek manner.

“Of course,” The woman nodded at his answer and scurried back out the near vacant looking office.

“Demi’s already prepared his side of the board. Time for me to set up my own…”

“Indeed. It wouldn’t be a pretty sight at all, I’ve seen it occur before...” Kari held a shiver after hearing that comment. Was Dimitri trying to tell them that something like this had happened before? That didn´t sound good, not even she the former delinquent could find something good in that comment. “Nobel reasons aren’t always the right ones my friend, we just gotta go with what best motivates us.” Kari shooked her head slowly in annoyance remembering something that made her feel uneasy "Damn he speaks like uncle..." yes Dimitri actually sounded like the uncle that was in Kyoto, just that his words were more... direct.

The next things Dimitri said made Kari wonder what kind of person was ,if he was one first, he sounded... powerful. He actually said that for the first time he was interested in changing something with his will, sadly he had to follow some rules of the strange room that to him was a whole realm and once more he mentioned destiny, Kari remembered how she told to Ionia that to her destiny meant nothing, maybe she would have to change her way of looking to that kind of things... Dimitri introduced the band they actually said some very impressive things, but Kari failed miserably as she tried to understand their words she really lacked appreciation for music and it´s references.

“And that’s that, now I fear that I’ve taken a bit too long with my calling you here. I better get you back. Like the girls said, it isn’t up to me whether or not you become a Persona-User. When the time comes for you to wield your power, the choice is up to you whether or not to fight.” Kari saw how a circle in the middle of the room it remembered her of a game she saw once in an arcade before. While she appreciated the circle Xavier, the brown skin boy, step into it commenting something about losing some limbs in the try. Dimitri just shooed him away, Kari looked around her with subtle the rest looked... uneasy? Maybe it was time to finally get the hell out of there, she walked to the circle scratching the back of her head showing her stoic face.

"Whatever... this is starting to suck so I´m out." Kari stood in the middle of the circle wondering if she had to tap her heels three times when she felt the same sensation when she crossed the door, even the chest pain returned. With a last glance she focused in Dimitri and bit her lip when she saw him grinning at her, for some reason she felt more fear at him that the one she felt when she met Zeral, the room started to faded as she feel once more as if she were falling...

3:03 A.M.
Kari opened her eye with a lot of effort she felt very weak and wasn't able to decide which was worst if the headache or the pain in the chest a quick glance around told her that she fell asleep in the kitchen. Using all her strength she raised her head from the table trying to stand to get to her bed, realizing that she would not be able to do that she just let her face fell hitting the table with all the might of the gravity had. Admitting her defeat Kari whispered feeling too tired to speak normally "I think I will sleep here today...
