This Recorder is known on the Pioneer I for his razor wit, but at heart he's really a hopeless romantic.
Wes Blakely, with his long dreads, blue glasses, and laid-back demeanor, exudes a very cool vibe. He's usually very calm and relaxed, but he enjoys to be around just about anyone, whether they're quiet or loud. In social settings, he almost always smiles and rarely gets angry. When he is angry or upset, though he doesn't retaliate by yelling or fighting; instead, he smiles, unleashes the wrath of his wit upon the perpetrator, and moves on like nothing happened. When Wes talks, it's usually to point out a clever observation or sardonically point out something, and he has been known to upset people in the past. Deep down, though, he has a soft spot for the people he cares about most, and he is in love with the concept of love; he always wondered about who his "soulmate" was, but he gave up the idea of finding her when he joined the Pioneer Program.
Wes brought with him dozens of pens, pencils, notepads, journals, and sketchbooks. Lots of the Recorders were making their entries on the computers, but that was never his style. He's not much of an artist, either, but he sees drawing as a creative outlet whether he's talented or not.
Wes grew up in a house of artists of all kinds; his parents were musicians, his older sister was a painter, and his older brother was a fashion designer. Wes went through phases where he tried to follow in each of their footsteps, but none of their professions suited him. He had the creative potential, but he expressed himself best in words. Throughout his childhood, he filled hundreds of journals and notebooks with stories, poems, and diary entries. As he got into high school, he came to realize that writing was and always would be his passion. He began submitting short works to newspapers and magazines, and he even used the local fame of his parents to get his name out there. Thus, he caught the attention of the Pioneer Program. The rest is history!
