The day was like any other. Well, night, I should probably say, I thought, walking barefoot through the woods within the Capulet Coven borders. I was never allowed anywhere else, and me being on my own was an unusual thing.
The silver-blue moon had just rised above the evergreens, illuminating everything with a faint blue glow. I breathed it in, letting the scents of the forest fill me. I heard a couple of deer about two hundred yards to my left, sleeping peacefully. A group of about twelve rabbits, fifty yards behind me, and an owl, awake and alert in the trees above me.
"Julie! Julie! Your mother calls for you!"
I sighed, but kept my manners. "Coming, Nurse!"
I stood still for another moment, then sped away towards my Nurse's voice. In a matter of seconds I had covered over eight hundred yards of forest.
"What does mother want?"
"She wants to talk you you about your marraige, dear."
I froze. I was only sixteen! How could she expect me to get married?
"I think she drank from a drunk again, Nurse."
"No, she learned not to do that the hard way, dear!" She and I chuckled as the memory of my mother drunk with a drunk man's blood, at her singing at random times and trying to dance with a tree branch.
"She'd stake us if she knew we were talking about this," I laughed.
"Even so, you should go see her now. I'll go with you."
I still wasn't comfortable talking about marrying to become the Coven's queen, but I went alongside Nurse to go and visit my mother.

I snarled at the man- if he could be called that- who stood about twenty yards ahead of me. Much too close for comfort. I flashed my pointed teeth and stood to my full height of seven feet and eight inches. The hair rippled down my head and back and down to my long tail.
Thank goodness tonight was a full moon. I change much faster.
Unable to speak in the wolf form, I directed my thoughts towards the vampire with as much loathing as I could.
Get off our land, you disgusting leech!
He only chuckled and flashed his red eyes. I dropped to all fours and prepared to jump, when Ben came up behind me, also in wolf form.
Come on, you guys. Not tonight, please? I'm sick of every night being a huge brawl between you two.
Yeah, well get used to it, Ben. Because tonight I end him!
I jumped forwards and the Capulet vampire jumped out of my reach.
"Not today, mutt."
That did it.
I leaped forward, focused on his disgusting scent, and my mouth closed on his arm. He howled in pain, and I howled in victory.
