Personality

Shawn is a bit of a loner, preferring to work on his own rather than with a group. However, he is willing to put the interests of others above himself, often jumping in to help people and will volunteer to take on the more dangerous tasks in a group. Tends to get reckless when something or someone precious to him is in danger or when he is angered.

Calm and composed when facing his opponents, he is not above appearing weak and fearful in order to defeat his opponents. Prefers using strategy to just facing enemies head on.

Often uses sarcasm to express himself, hence tends to annoy those people around him.

History

Shawn was born with the ability to manipulate energy, which he exhibited in his childhood by powering his toys even while they had no batteries, or causing the entire household to have a power outage when he is upset. As he grew, he learned to keep his powers under control, as his parents were often placed in difficult positions having to explain the weird happenings around their home. However, one day a neighbour spotted Shawn when he first realised his ability to marshal energy into shapes and form objects or machinery, and that sent the authorities coming to their home.

Shawn was 17 then, and ran from his home in order to escape capture. His parents however, were gunned down trying to protect him. As a result of this experience, Shawn often becomes very protective of things or people dear to him, not wanting history to repeat itself. He also tends to keep to himself as he thinks people who get close to him are likely to get hurt. He found a group of individuals with special abilities just like him and they kept together for survival for two years.

Shawn saw the things going on in Omega City and wanted to do something about it, wanting to use his powers to help the citizens. The rest of the group, however, had grown bitter about being outcast and told Shawn to either "stay with his own kind" or try to be accepted by the "normals". Hence Shawn made his decision and left to enlist in the local army unit, to learn how to fight and use different weapons. However, on a mission to stop a superpowered villain, Shawn inadvertently used his powers to protect his squadmates, which resulted him being discharged from service. It was a mercy granted to him, and they did not arrest him for it. Shawn then realised he would have to resort to using his powers to protect the people and hence calling himself "Sentinel", began his duty of protecting the innocent as a superhero.
