Introduction
The Deensvale Bog, a small swampy region with around fifty villages. It belongs to Deen Republic, a nation that has long forgotten the usage of magic and now relies on mechanical apparatuses and recently found steampowered devices. The rural areas use little technology though and are rather simple. The bog is defined by it's swamps and steep hills. 500 years ago it was only swampy flatland and the hills are actually the highest points of underground towns and cities of a lost civilization.
The Bog people: They are defined by their white hair and black clothing. The white hair turns out to be a side effect of their powerful magic usage. They have a policy that if a normal overgrounder wanders into their lairs uninvited, they must become one of them or be killed. Usually the overgrounders given the choice, choose not to be killed. Out of the massive population of 20 million, there are a few hundred former overgrounders. The Bog people rely on magic for their everyday lives and even transportation uses magic. The overgrounders who become one of the Bog people usually get their white hair upon the rituals giving them their magic abilities. In rare cases, they get silver hair. Eye color is usually green, red or blue. Brown is very rare.
Magic: The Bog people use the old magics. The only magic known in the overlands is new magic, but is usually only healing and illusion magic used by the fewest. Too much magic usage can lead to blue lines on skin or in extreme cases to accelerated aging (which is coincidentially reversible using magic).
The culture: The bog people usually wear black clothing and glowing pendants. Clothing is seen as a sign of status. Linen material being the lowest, leather and metal being the highest. Former overlanders often wear black robes to show a special status to avoid being treated in a rude manner. Generally those identified as former overlanders are treated with respect and hospitality, however aren't regarded as high in status. The city architecture is often stone with lots of statues and decorations reminding people of cathedrals. The halls and caverns are usually lighted with glowing crystals. The Bog people believe in four deities: Ul, the deity of darkness and protection, Ur, the deity of light and war, Ussa, the goddess of fertility, culture and farming, Assa, the goddess of enjoyment, wealth and health. Due to the large population of the Bog people, they have begun to spread to the underground areas beyond the region, often even building inside mountains.
The Bog culture is not a single nation but multiple smaller nations and city-states that tend to work together most of the time.
Starting point: The town-state of Angara. Population: About 19000. Area: About 15 sqkm on two level (one in an underground cavern and one being the top level of the temple that forms a hill in the overground. The intruder has just fallen in the hole and has been discovered.
Playable characters: Protagonist, overgrounders (however overgrounders might not have must interaction possibility), former overgrounders and bog people
