HISTORY
Gawain was born to a semi-nomadic tribe of highlanders in Caledonia. His upbringing was filled with hard work and honest labors, and daily struggle to stay alive. He occasionally saw combat as a young adult, very small skirmishes with rival clans that only ever took one, two, or three lives at a time. When he was 19 years of age, he was responsible for the capture of an entire hunting party of the rival Donough clan, and brokered their release back to their families with the utmost respect for his enemy. This and his subsequent actions on the battlefield caught the attention of certain "royal barbarians" that led to him being selected for vassalage under the Canmore clan in Caledonia, and as a right of passage, enlisted him to join the Defenders, a sect devoted to protecting their realm from raiders, pillagers, pirates, bandits, and rebels. As he approached his fourth year in the group, he was challenged by the well-known Irish knight Bertolos O'Desser, whose armor seemed to glow green due to a special mineral infused in the metal, to a challenge of arms: they would exchange one blow at a time until one of the opponents died. He had already slain seven warriors of the realm in this type of duel, and Gawain, a young man with revenge in his heart, accepted the offer to be the eighth duellist. After the toss of a coin to determine who struck first, Gawain accepted a heavy strike from an axe upon his neck, which left a large gash at the place where it impacted. When his turn came, he decapitated the Irish knight with a single blow from his own axe, based on an ancient Assyrian design, and thus rid Caledonia of a terrorist, a murderer, and a man who had long tarnished the title of Knight. Gawain gained a bit of fame from the action, but has not let it go to his head; his knightly ideals and chivalric attitude remains strong, and his ambitions to become a great warrior in the annals of Caledonia remain firm. So firm, in fact, that he has taken his cousin Mordred the Canmore's realm of control to give the boy a new sense of direction, and to let the fire die down that so badly wants Mordred dead.
PERSONALITY
Gawain is known for his courteousness, and provides an exemplary model of chivalry despite his upbringing in the barbaric north. In the wake of his recent encounter with the Green Knight, he has only received kisses from ladies wishing to celebrate him as a champion after receiving permission from their husbands, lords, or fathers. He is honest, brave and loyal, but behind closed doors, the stress of the seemingly inevitable loss of his life becomes too great for him to bear; he looks at his life as a whole, and the idea of his eventual death hovers over him like bad weather. He is, however, a hard worker in all the avenues he involves himself in, and does not let his mental cornering by Fate get in the way of his duty to his home and to himself. He was born at a very interesting time in the history of the world; the opportunities presented to him could not possibly be more endless. His name, his values, and his axe will surely rise to great things should his mind endure through thick and thin.
