Setting
Relm had finished carrying the food in for the animals. The horses were grazing in the large farm field, the sheep all packed together thanks to the cattle dog, Celeste. Relm smiled as she walked into the house, letting in Celeste. Her grandfather was sitting at the table, working on carving something. "Everything is all finished grandpa." Relm smiled. The old man smiled and lifted up what he was carving. Relm's eye grew large. "Is that what I think it is!?" She cheered.
"Sure is, darling." Relm's grandfather said. "A new staff, just for you." He said.
"Thank you so much. By the way, I have to run into town, I need some more painting supplies."
Her grandfather nodded. "Alright, be back before sunset though, it looks like it might rain, be careful sweetheart." He said, handing her some money and her staff.
Relm smiled, "I will be fine, thank you. Need anything while I am out?" Relm's grandfather nodded, 'no'. As Relm walked out the door, Celeste decided to go along. "Alright girl, let's go."
After a while of walking, she could see the town. She had reached the town, something was off though. She noticed a soldier in Magitek armor, and many guards patrolling. They didn't bother her or anything, so she continued with her shopping. Celeste had seemed uneasy about this, Relm did too, but as long as they didn't bother her, she wouldn't bother them.
"Where is the paint at?" She wondered as she walked around in various shops. The shop clerk had said all paint was sold out and that the next batch wouldn't be ready until tomorrow. "I see, thanks, I will be in tomorrow though." She said and exited to the alley. As she was walking a person in a dark cloak had knocked into Relm, both of them falling.
"Get away, you mustn't help me." The figure said, swatting at Relm's hand when she tried to help.
Relm wondered why she couldn't help. "Why?"
"I have stolen something- something to help in the ending of the war." The person moved the cloak, revealing some machine parts.
Confused, Relm looked at the parts. "Are those Magitek armor pieces?"
The person nodded. "Yessem, now go, if they see you here, they might hurt you." Relm decided to get up and go, and as she rounded the corner, guards appeared in the alley with the person. Relm stood, trying to stay quiet, but listening, nobody was saying anything she could make out. Quietly walking away, she ran out of town, but she forgot Celeste was near the person.
"Damn, Celeste, where could she be." A few moments later, barking was heard. Relm ran out, trying to improvise. "Oh there you are. Silly dog, always wandering away, now come on, let's get back home for dinner."
The guard grabbed the man, he refused to give up the parts. Relm was worried. "Give us back the parts, we know YOU stole them." The man still refused. His hood fell, revealing his identity.
"Please, just give them back what they ask. I can't stand to see more battle." Relm stated.
"Shut up. Besides, shouldn't you be aiding the war, you are a White Mage after all. Why not help the wounded here?" A guard stated.
Relm looked down, shocked at what she heard. "I will have nothing to do with this stupid war. It is a waste of everything, and how can you be so stupid to know that Adam isn't real. Adam is a false-prophet."
The guards were appalled at what they heard. "What did you say!? Adam is our savior, it seems somebody won't be blessed into Eternia. So we might as well make you a sacrifice."
"Are you mad, girl, you can't argue with an Imperial Soldier." The cloaked man said. "Get out now, this is going to be ugly."
The White Mage had nodded. "No, I need to experience this fight for myself." She readied her staff, and Celeste snarled.
Two guards approached her. Readying their blades. "Dumb decision, now let's show this bitch a lesson."
"A bitch!? Now you've done it!" Relm twirled her staff. "Frost!" She called out and called forth a bittercold wind to hit the enemies. "What am I doing!? There is no way I can take on these soldiers, not with my miniscule magic! This isn't good, I shouldn't have let them get to me, I need better judgement next time."
The guard swung his sword, his larger stature made him slower, giving Relm a chance to move, narrowly avoiding the second attack. As she smaller man recovered, Celeste ran and bit him in the exposed part of his leg.
Relm ran, the citizens all watching as she ran down the streets, trying hard to lose the soldiers. "Get back here!" The guards called. "Don't let her escape!"
As Morvayne walked along the city corner he saw a White Mage girl running from Magitek soldiers. "What is going on!?" He wondered as she ran for dear life. A girl like her didn't seem to be the one to cause trouble, but he didn't like the soldiers, so he decided to intervene. He stepped in front of the Magitek armor. "Explosion!" He called out and rose his arm, the soldier maneuvering the armor stopped and saw the mage was chanting and quickly ejected himself from the machine and ran away. "Let it burn." Morvayne said, letting the flame blow up the magical armor, the only remains were scrap metal scattered about. "Let this be a warning to you all, don't hurt this girl." "What am I doing? I don't even know this girl, but she seems oddly familiar, who is she, why am I protecting her, have I lost my mind!? I guess I don't want Magitek ruling this small town." "Remove your Magitek soldiers from this place or I shall continue to torch them all as long as I live, you all saw the result of my power, now go!"
The soldiers retreated for now but no doubt they wouldn't return. The White Mage girl had stood and watched and was amazed at his power. Morvayne walked over to her. "I am crazy or something, but I must ask of you, did you create this feud between you and the Magitek units? Anyway, you're safe for now, but I would probably stay away from them for the time being, my name is Morvayne Magus, EX Magitek magician." He said, placing heavy emphasis on the Ex part. "I don't understand why soldiers need to occupy this small town, it has nothing that would help the war. I left because of what happened, I used to be proud to be a soldier for the Empire of Orria, but after seeing their ways, I left, now I am a man on the run."
Grabbing Celeste and walking back over to Morvayne. "A man had stolen some Magitek Armor pieces and refused to give them, I was there and he warned me, but before I could leave, the soldiers reached us."
Celeste had barked happily, seeming to be calm towards Morvayne, despite his ominous appearance. "My name is Relm- Relm Whitewill. I must thank you for helping me. Would you mind coming back to my grandpa's ranch with me, it seems you've nowhere to stay, we have two spare rooms at our ranch, I think grandpa will let you in." Relm smiled and grabbed her things and proceeded out of town, "The offer is on the table, if you're interested!" She shouted.
The plains were large and housed many monsters, how this girl managed to stray from harm's way amazed Morvayne. "How can she get through here without a single monster attacking us?" Morvayne wondered.
Morvayne had stepped on something, it felt rough. It appeared to be a bone of some sort, not of a human, but of some animal. He heard growling, but multiple growls, it obviously had caused something to awaken or see them. "Relm be careful."
In the sunset, multiple pairs of eyes could be seen in the bushes, they were most likely feral wolves. "Relm, get out of here!" Morvayne commanded and began chanting a spell. "Plague the body, Poison!" He said, calling forth green gas to surge around a pack of wolves facing him. "Burn!" He said, casting a large fireball at the group, causing them to scatter but quickly regain their composure, they were tougher then most wolves. "Relm, let me handle this, head back to your home, now, I won't forgive myself if you get hurt."
In Grendil, Gawain was walking down the luscious gardens of Palace Barron. "At least there is still peace here in Grendil in this area. It seems war is all people talk about here, but I don't blame them. There isn't much else to talk about, I suppose our technological economy is bustling, with the train running constantly it is no wonder we are still the top capital." He sat down underneath a large tree and placed his sword standing up next to him. "Is it so nice here."
"Master Gawain, your room is ready." A lady in a maid's garb said.
"Thank you, Nistalja." Gawain smiled and threw a large bag of money to her. "Your pay, thank you for everything."
The maid picked up the bag. "Master Gawain, this is much more than your father gives me, I thank you deeply." The maid smiled and walked back to the palace.
Relm walked over. "We better, they may come back very soon." She said and took off running with Celeste.
Eventually Relm and Morvayne reached the farm. "This is my house. It is just me and my grandpa, but like I said, you can stay." She walked in and told her grandpa all about the scuffle in town.
"RELM! What were you thinking! You could've been killed!" Relm's grandfather yelled.
"I know, but Morvayne saved me, and I am returning the favor, he has nowhere to go, and I know I was in trouble, I could've taken them if I tried, but I..." Relm couldn't think of anything to say and walked up to her room and slammed the down and slid down and sat in behind the door. "If Morvayne hadn't showed up, I could very well be dead, I can see why grandpa is angry."
"Yes, Morvayne Magus." He said, sitting down at the table, looking at the marvelous wood sculptures of animals that Relm's grandfather had made. "What is your name?"
The old man pulled out the chair and handed a cup of tea to Morvayne. "My name is Geoffrey. I used to be a Dark Knight, but not anymore, I am just a simple farmer... I deeply thank you for saving Relm, I cannot repay you."
"It was alright, besides I had my own reasons for saving her." Morvayne said, taking a sip of his tea.
"If you don't mind me asking, what were they?" Geoffrey asked, setting aside his cup of tea and putting his arms on the table.
Morvayne leaned back a bit. "I normally don't talk about this, but I suppose I could tell you... A while back when I was still a Black Mage for the Empire, I was married, and I had a daughter who was three, she looked very much like Relm, blonde hair and beautiful blue and grey eyes... One day, our house was set ablaze when I was out doing a mission, I saw smoke and headed over, I noticed it was my house, I used my Blue Magic, but the flames were too strong that my spells weren't doing a thing, I then heard a baby crying, it was being carried by Imperial soldiers but, I couldn't kill all of them, two escaped and I later found out, they sacrificed my daughter for Adam. All I have left to remember Linoa is this pendant with her picture in it."
"I am terribly sorry Morvayne. This ordeal is a self-inflicted apocalypse. Adam will be the death of everything when he is supposed to be our 'savior' in this world." Geoffrey said. "Oh I am sorry, hang on, it is time for Relm to go over and tutor our neighbor, Lucille on her magic studies." He got up and walked over to the steps. "Relm, Lucille is probably waiting for you!"
Alright, be home by nine, but no later than nine-thirty. It is getting worse now, I don't want you out too late." Geoffrey said.
"Bye Grandpa, bye Morvayne." Relm smiled and walked out the door. She walked about five minutes and reached Lucille's house. She looked around, the sun was setting, but she felt the presence of someone around. "I have a funny feeling." She placed the books in one hand and knocked on the door. "Lucille, it's Relm, ready to practice your magic?"
A little girl opened the door. "Hi Relm, of course I am, I have my staff too. I am ready." She smiled and closed the door and held her staff ready. "Okay, just like I practiced it." Lucille held up her staff and began to focus. "Alright, I am ready Relm, I will go easy on you!"
Relm held her staff. "Alright, cast a spell on me and let's see your progress." Relm prepared for the attack and began to defend herself for the attack.
Lucille held up her staff and smiled, "Icicle!" She said and fired a moderate sized icicle at Relm, it hit her but didn't damage her that much. "How was that Relm?"
