Despina

Daughter of aldulterous Gods.

0 · 987 views · located in MjƶtviĆ°r; The Realms

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by Coloratura

Description

Image
In the Grecian underworld, looking from Erebus to Tartarus, a deeper level of Hades.

Despina has inherited the beauty of her mother, Persephone.

Large eyes of a sky blue color
Ivory skin with high blushing cheeks,
Full and defined lips like pink roses.

Hair the color of straw with a slight wave to it.
(Lighter at the bottom than in the picture)
Her scent is the honey-like smell of Asphodel flowers,
those that grow on the plains of the Grecian underworld.

Personality

Although a Godess Despina is Gullible and ingenuous to the point of it being comical.

Despina is an immortal like all Gods, even lesser ones as she,
So she will not age past youth or die
despite this she is still rather young,
only age twenty which is coincidently
the age that she will always appear to be.

She's spent most of her life in Elysium Fields
chatting up the souls of heroes and demigods,
picking ghostly wildflowers, or making lovely music for the dead,
Despina is really quite nymph-like and whimsical.

The young Immortal is virtuous and compassionate
having spent most of her time in the highest plain of the Greco-Roman afterlife,
she's only encountered the best types of people,
and this makes her a little naive when it comes to denizens of the real world.
She has only been exploring the world of the living for a short time
and knows very little about the ways of human beings and other humanoids.
Around humans, especially in Wing City, she is docile and even skittish,
not accustom to the company of corporeal mortals.

Being the biological daughter of Apollo and Persephone she is a godess, albeit a lesser known Godess with little power.
She is generally considered the Godess of Music and Melodies in Elysium,
and Mistress of the Singing Voice outside of her home in the underworld.

She does have some supernatural abilities, as she may sing or play her Lyre
to dying mortals and bring them back to health when they are on their deathbeds
(Only if their soul is bound for the netherworld and not some other form of the afterlife.), but this tends to frustrate her father.
She is also able to boat souls from the Styx river and into the world of the dead if they have not paid their coin to Charon the ferryman,
thus saving them from a life of aimless wandering on the shore of the spectral river, but alas, she is also forbidden by Hades to do this.

History

Despinda is the daughter wrought from the Greek Goddess Persephoneā€™s infidelity with The God Apollo.
She is Princess of The Underworld, Non-Biological Daughter of The God of Death
and half-sister to Melinoe (Daughter of Hades and Persephone, Mistress of ghosts)

Despite being a child not his own,
She was raised by Hades and he is for all intents and purposes her father,
as Hades being the God of death is for the most part infertile
(Divine intervention being at work in the birth of his other children.) .

As a young girl she lived mainly with demi gods in Elysium,
where her adoptive father hoped someday she would stay permanently,
as an musician or artist for the dead souls in paradise,
Not wanting her to leave and live on Mt Olympus with the other deitys
Because of this, she was taught by The Three Graces (also known as charities)
and one of The Muses who taught her to sing and play the Lyre.
Having been schooled in the arts of language, music, and dance,
She most excelled in playing instruments and Song (being taught by the muse Aoide)
With an enchanting lyrical voice of the soprano range,
that fluttered through Elysium, Prettier than a nightingales call,
the souls and God who presided over Elysium secondary to her adoptive father Hades,
Took to calling her the godesses of music as she had nothing to formally preside over at that time.
However, before long, she was considered even at Mt Olympus to be the Deity who held sway over the human singing voice and melodies,

Her talent did not come out of the blue or completely from training with the Muse Aoide as her biological father Apollo,
in addition to being God of Light and The Sun, also presides over Musical arts, and healing,
Living in the realm of the dead all her life, she doesn't actually know that her true father is not Hades,
And this is part of the reason he does not wish her to journey to Mt Olympus, As she is also
a well kept secret from The Sun God.

So begins...

Despina shook her head vehemently her eyes wide blue orbs of innocence, sure that was what other Gods and Goddesses did, but she'd never set foot on Mt.Olympus and was made to stay in her families palace or the gardens after sundown.

The girl was silent she had no idea what to say, a satyr passed out a few feet from them, smashing a bottle of wine when he did so, and it formed a dark puddle that came just to the bottom of her bare white feet, her golden ankle bands glimmering in its reflection.

At this she put her head down on her knees, only peering out occasionally.

Despina looked delighted for and took the recorder playing a scale on it and then a lovely little tune, she had not played a flute like this before actually, opting more for her beautiful singing voice, her melodious lyre and on some occasions the Grecian Aulos (Or double flute) but being the goddess of music she could play it with ease. Having the instrument made her feel comforted and she didn't even notice the lewd acts being committed in slightly darker corners of the large room.

but then she stopped arched an eyebrow, eyeing him up and down "How did youā€¦When did you learnā€¦Achilles?" She looked utterly perplexed, her heroic friend was quite powerful and skilled in many ways, but she'd never seen him just whip up an instrument just like that, out of a table leg no less.

She'd also said the heroes name quite audibly, and Kol had better hope the music and revelry had been too loud for him to hear it or that he was simply too drunk to make it out.

Despina swooned faintly at the sight of Ajax with the topless women, not out of delight or because of his large muscles, but from the sheer terror of seeing the drunken and vicious man (And not to mention the crude way in which he seemed to handle women), who had been known only to her when he spoke of his victories in battle during the Trojan War and this was never directly to the princess, her simply having been in the same room at the time, certainly if he had known this was a full fledged goddess and daughter of the Underworlds rulers he would have thought twice about what he was about to do after throwing Kol across the room.

The young Goddess looked from Ajax to Kol while they spoke, So he really wasn't Achilles! Then where was her good friend and who was this man in the hood?! And why did Ajax keep looking at her like thatā€¦?

Despina gasped in horror when he tossed the Demi-Titan across the room, sure he might have been an impostor but it seemed her brain blocked that out when he was hurled into three tables before landing with a groan, she was about to run over and help him but this was about the moment when Ajax decided that he fancied the beautiful princess would make a nice bedroom companion, so to speak.

A few of his topless compatriots made their faces pouty and crossed their arms when he went for Despina, how come he didn't try to take them by force? It seemed that men always preferred celestial deities over mortal women and nymphs, and this was terribly irksome to the gaggle of ladies.

"Wha--Ahh!" She slipped away from his first drunken grasp for her but her state of shock left her a bit less nimble than she usually was and Despina was subsequently picked up by her ankle after slipping a bit in and almost falling in the crimson puddle left by the satyrs recent wine spill, this had been an opportune moment for Ajax to seize her, which he had of course taken. She was flung over his back like a rucksack, this was certainly more than mortifying for the

Despina was utterly disgusted by Ajax and she made this quite known, although she sounded weaker and less exuberant than she had been when Kol met her "Letā€¦" She huffed with effort trying to loosen her ankle from his iron grip "Meā€¦Go..D-Do you know who my father is?!" If Hades got wind of this he'd probably annihilate every hero in Elysium, and it would be for the good of all if he was not told.

When Kol decked the muscle-bound behemoth in the jaw, she was flung aside like a ragdoll as her captor fell, but it was close enough to the ground she simply rolled sideways and came away unscathed.

Despina skirted up and away from the messy heap that was Ajax, looking like she was going to be sick. Her pale white feet were stained crimson from her earlier slip in the wine puddle, and she looked a sight leaving tiny grape colored foot prints as she ran through the crowds of half-clothed women and drunken warriors.

She eagerly obeyed Kol, ready to get out of this debauched hall that was so pristine and pure in the daytime, yet turned to lascivious madness when the sun went down.

Ajax seemed to be regaining conscious by the time they had gotten to the entryway of the hall's main chamber, one could not be sure if he would pursue them or not and it probably depended on his level of intoxication.

Voices of women who had been pursuing Kol mewed and called to him, especially the pretty muse that had seemed so fond of the Demi Titan, but the sounds were drowned by the enraged shouts that emitted from Ajax's gaping maw.

When the spear flew through the air Despina was too aghast even to shriek, instead letting out the most frightened and quick gasp, not even deigning to release the breath after she saw Kol being impaled by the weapon.

Her feet flew down the lushly green knoll, the flowing fabric of her toga-like gown trailing the air like white billows of smoke. When she reached Kol he had stopped rolling and landed in the vast flowery meadow, as it was nighttime in Elysium, so he was flanked on all sides by red and white roses.

Kol seemed to be bleeding badly where the spear was lodged in his back, and this startled Despina, she'd never seen blood save for once or twice when she'd pricked her finger on a thorn and it was always the godly golden ichor that flowed in her veins and not this crimson colored stuff. "A-..Are you alright?" Her tone was shaking with fright and shock.

Despina winced when he let out the groan of pain, she'd never heard such sounds before, and why would she have? Living all her life in the paradise that was Elysian fields.

Her entire countenance was trembling like a petal being blown about by strong winds, and her crystal blue eyes were wide as saucers as she looked as though she was about to be sick all over the pretty meadow, but Despina's empathy for Kol kept herself from regurgitating Ambrosia all over the roses.

"Pull ā€¦itā€¦out? Out of your body..?" She pointed at his injury "Right there..? That spot thereā€¦" By now she was simply rambling in terror, and this went on for atlas five minutes before she collected herself "I will..Endeavor to rid you ofā€¦" She trailed off after babbling a few seconds and put both diminutive hands on the spear shaft before closing her eyes turning away and yanking blindly. Managing to pull it out though knocking herself back a bit at the same time and send the spear flying across the plains.

Despina continued in her song, her pure bright soprano timbre fluttering and floating across the veritable eden of Elysium, to fill it with her focused sound. "Frameam tuam fletu et gemitu non calido, sanatur. Pro misericordia triumphum rider." The words made it seem like some sort of healing song, and each one she sang would have been as pleasurable to hear, as the feeling of a kiss from the goddess herself.

A light vibrata sounding on the highest notes as she pulled each off with skill and utter perfection. Her celestial and lithe singing voice showed it's shimmering upper extension as the music came to a close, the last note ringing out clear as a bell and sweeter than the song of a nightingale. She gave a sitting bow, but it wasn't anything formal and looked more like she was just being playful.

She giggled at the amazement on his face, she had seen that look many times before, especially when she sang for a newly deceased soul come to Elysian.
"Glad you like it! Feeling any better, strange imposture?" She said the last words in a way that wasn't sardonic or mocking, but as if that was simply his name for the time being.

Despina spoke in greek now, in reply to his latin. there was no particular reason save for the fact that after singing in Latin she wanted to vary things a bit "You think that you are at my mercy? Hmā€¦I suppose so because father would probably be quite angry with you if I told him about the goings on of tonight, but your really not at allā€¦Because i'd never do such a thingā€¦" Despina trailed off, she had a habit of rambling on in a rather girlish fashion, rather it was cute or annoying depended on the person, but having a musical speaking voice certainly helped.

"Oh, its no trouble to me," Despina didn't really understand lying all too well or rather she didn't view it in a negative light, she wasn't stupid simply naive, why would someone perpetrate anymore than a harmless white lie in paradise? The heroes did it occasionally when embellishing their exploits but that was about it.
"A guard? Thats awfully peculiar, I wish I could be as strong as theyā€¦I've never even seen tartarus you know, I do wonder what its like at times." Her manner of speaking was graceful and yet so very childish at times.

She grinned broadly showing her rows of blaringly white teeth, she curtsied demurely in response to his bow and spoke cheerfully her voice like little bells as it fell from her full rose lips "I'm Despina! Daughter of Hades and Persephone, i'm actually not dead, just a goddess who lives here and it's a pleasure to meet you Kol."

It might have been strange for Hades to have had a daughter that was of such sunny looks and disposition, one could tell Melinoe was his child, and Despina certainly had Persephone's innocent beauty, but she simply looked nothing like Hades.

She nodded with that great energy of an unspoiled youth "Yes I certainly don't in fact i've only left once to get a peek at Asphodel and The Styx, but then Charon told on me ā€¦ and I couldn't leave the palace for a week." She sighed at this, like a disgruntled teen made to stay home in lieu of going to some party, but then her smiled returned and she shrugged "He tells me it's dangerous though, so I trust him."

When he spoke of Tartarus the girl raised her eyebrows in curiosity and then even more with a mixture of excitement when he mentioned going to Asphodel
"Really?! You'd have me go there with you?" She looked ready to burst with joy and threw her small arms about his neck in a sort of hug "Thank you so much! I can't wait!" She hand't seen the middle plain since she was a child, and hadn't left Elysium since then.

A winsome snowdrop of a woman explored the market of Skyfall, she carried a twelve string Lyre and had a woven basket hanging loosely in the crux of her left arm. Despina seemed new in the city, and was marveling at everything around her and looking in each shop keeper's stall, her sparkling blue eyes wide as saucers. The dim light of evening did little to cloak her and she almost looked like a a white ray of moonlight save for that crown of straw colored hair that fell loosely to her small waist, a fitting visage for Apollo's daughter.

Despina seemed to have stepped from the pages of "The Iliad" or some other work of antiquity. Long strips of thin leather were wrapped about her ankles, stopping only a few inches below her knees and being connected to her sandals which were reminiscent of shoes that might have been worn in ancient Rome or Greece. And they made occasional scraping noises as she quickly skipped across the narrow streets, looking almost as if she were walking on air, with a grin on her radiantly happy face; she appeared to be fervently excited about something.

Despina spotted a building nearby with raucous sounds of merriment pervading the air outside it, The curious young Goddess had to wonder what such a place was, never having been to a tavern or bar, as it was only her second time outside of The Grecian Nether realm. She lightly pushed the large wooden door open and slipped inside, wide eyes flitting to and from each corner of the bar. Upon seeing the bartender she rushed right up to him, and gazed with bemusement, never having laid eyes on a Dwarf.

Her pale cheeks turned to roses and she looked ever so slightly abashed when the Dwarf spoke ā€œOh..Wellā€¦Iā€™ve never seen someone like you, is it magic?ā€ The only magic that Despina was actually familiar with was God Magic, which mostly incorporated exercising their whims over humans and whatever else was under their power. She wondered if he was being punished by one of her fellow Olympians as he looked so terribly odd.

Despina batted her large black eyelashes that framed wide sky blue orbs of curiosity. ā€œBu--ā€¦But your so sm--..Dwarf? What is a Dwarf?ā€ She said his race in a peculiar way, her accent being a seldom heard mix of Ancient Greek and Latin, the language of Olympian Deities.

When Trent stepped over she was also interested greatly in him, as he was dressed just as strangely as the Dwarven man, they did not wear Togaā€™s, Stolaā€™s, Chitonā€™s, or Tunicā€™s but trousers instead. This was the odd fashion she had seen displayed on people in the market when she first entered Skyfall and yet she still was somewhat amazed.

ā€œOh!ā€ Was gasped with a sharp intake of breath by the petite orchid of a girl, as she backed away from the Dwarf with a look in her eyes that resembled shock more than fear. As adoptive daughter of Hades and Princess of the Underworld, she had seldom been spoken to in such a way. And certainly never yelled at save for when she tried to sneak away from her home realm, as she was doing at that very moment, it seemed being undetected by Hades did not spare her a tongue lashing.

When she saw Melthandon her eyes widened even more and she forgot having been frightened by Hfahn, and turned her starry gaze upon the Elf breathing delicately ā€œMyā€¦Your earsā€¦ā€ She was too awe struck by all of this to realize she was being impolite and only looked away when The Elf left.

She replied to Trentā€™s words ā€œYes, Very newā€¦New to...All worlds in fact. I come from Elysian fields, it is the highest level of the afterlife. But Iā€™m not dead!ā€ She said cheerfully figuring he would simply infer that she was a Goddess.

ā€œOf course not, youā€™re no Olympian, youā€™re a living mortal. I suppose you will visit when youā€™re dead? If youā€™re a hero or Demigodā€¦ā€ She trailed off a bit, wondering if the manā€™s soul would in fact come to her home or if it would enter a lower plain such as Erebus or Asphodel. Despina had no knowledge of other deities or forms of the afterlife.

She listened happily to his welcome and smiled with a ā€œThank you!ā€ Before continuing ā€œI know, I read about it in a scroll from my fathers private library, Although, the writing was very briefā€¦ And I still do not understand why some of you have sharp ears that resemble daggers and some are so very little in statureā€¦The Dwarves became small by living undergroundā€¦?ā€ Despina tilted her head in confusion.

Despina took a seat almost tentatively, as if waiting for the chair barstool beneath her to explode into a new oddity. She cocked her head to the side yet again ā€œWhy is this upsetting to them? It is what I have observed.ā€

Despina could not find fitting words in reply, she was simply trying to take it all in, the strange creatures and the humans who dressed in such a wild manner. ā€œWhat if I were to say something of the humans?...Are there other races here as well?ā€ Despina was young for an immortally youthful goddess, her true age of twenty being how she would appear for the rest of eternity, so despite being a deity, she knew very little of mortals outside of Elysian and certainly nothing of races that were not strictly human and was quite innocent.
ā€œIf I were to speak to one of theseā€¦Elves, what could I say to them? Not risking insult, of course. Do they speak this language? As I went through great pains to learn it before coming here and I should not like to read up on another...ā€ She paused at his order, wondering what Mead was.

It was a very bright morning in Elysium, if one could call it a morning at all, as time did not truly exist in the afterlife, simply cycles of light and dark. Despina had chosen that day to help her mother do what they called ā€œrenovatingā€. Which was the act of livening things up for the dead souls of Elysium and creating a new landscape, although the realm was paradise itself and often did revert to a familiar Mediterranean setting, it was periodically revamped, so to speak.

Despina, the petite lily who was a daughter of the nether realms king, danced about a forest that was quickly becoming a grassy meadow, dotted with little white flowers, and only the occasional tree. Her mother, Persephone, was stepping up a verdant hill that became a jagged and snow covered mountain with each movement of her bare feet. It was quite the scene, and they were being watched intently by the dead heroes and other worthy of Elysium.

Despina felt a slight chill run down her spine, but she figured it was just the snow she had recently created and continued working. Turning around upon seeing a thick and dark shadow behind her, she smiled in recognition of a familiar face. Upon hearing his words she let a light giggle escape her lips, like the tinkling of a small bell. ā€œI am making winter, canā€™t you see? It is more like play than work.ā€ She beamed up at her mother Persephone, who was moving her hands about as to conjure a light and only slightly chilly breeze.
Despina grinned again ā€œSoon weā€™ll have an icy lake, but it wonā€™t really be cold at allā€¦ At least not in an unpleasant way.ā€ The young goddess spoke always in an interesting combination of Greek and Latin used only by the gods, and her voice was light as air. Before she finished her sentence the emerald hills had already turned into tall snow mountains and a chilly wind was howling, but somehow, it was more refreshing than cold.

The girl who was very much like a snow drop herself, lent a lithe arm to Anchises, meaning to take him on a stroll through the new lands that had already been created. ā€œMother made a beautiful collection of bubbling hot springs, would you like to see?ā€ Despina was visibly excited about all the changes being made to Elysium, especially about the fact that a gargantuan lake in the middle of a vast expanse of forest had been turned into a plethora of small hot springs bordering a bright blue grotto that also simmered with warm water amidst what was now a great collection of fir trees whose needles were dusted with white.

However, upon taking only a few steps, A brown ibex with large black horns ran across their path, it looked rather fearsome but when Despina cooed to it the creature calmly allowed its fur to be stroked by the young immortal. The goddess and her mother had spent the previous day making the deer into the type of mountain goat like creature that pawed the ground before them, and stared intently at the man who only looked like Anchises.
