Mae Dawkins

A Quiet Elven Swordsmaster

0 · 2,088 views · located in Blackrock

a character in “The Multiverse”, as played by funsunfish

Description

Mae Dawkins is an elven swordsmaster, who went looking for her sister, Ariel, on Blackrock. Not much is know about her. She has long hair, and blue eyes. Mae always dresses very modestly, partly because of scars covering her arms, legs and back. She earned her sword, the Archænic Mastersword, by defeating Malamus, the Demon warlord.
Mae is a very timid elf, who can sense evil auras easily. She can sometimes be manipulated, as she does not like to hurt other creatures, and is not very strong. She is, however, very fast, and has excellent reflexes.

Gender-F
Race- High Plains Elven
Weapon(s)- Archænic mastersword, small dagger, double toothed katanas, trench knife
Appearance- Long hair, blue eyes, moderate height
Strengths- speed, agility, reflexes, coordination, excellent hearing, good swimming skills
Weaknesses- fear, dark magic (oddly enough), and death of those close to her

Arcænic Mastersword:
The Archænic mastersword, (as I said above) was granted to Mae as an award for the vanquishing of Malamus, the Demon warlord. It has left her with some guilt, however. Her Sister, Ariel, was killed by Malamus, but she believes it was her fault. Although Ariel is presumed dead, Mae has a feeling that she is still alive. In her travels of finding out if this premonition is indeed true, Mae has gotten herself into a heap of trouble. She somehow got a 2,000 copper bounty on her head, Six arrests, (All of which was followed by a jail-break) and countless death threats.

Issues: Mae has slight levels of insanity, that sometimes show when she's particularly angry, grieved or in deep bouts of combat. The insanity was a result of trauma after the loss of her sister, causing mental scars that most likely will never heal. Her mentality seems to decay over time, as the grueling process of finding her sister really takes a toll on her. Also, she has a habit of acting stronger and tougher than she really is, getting her in difficult situations sometimes.

So begins...

High Orbit, Corvilus System; Eden Galaxy

On the farthest fringes of the Corvilus System came a moon sized bright orb of light that shown with the power of a small star for one single instant. After that moment of time the light faded as quickly as it had come leaving a moon sized starship in it's wake. The legendary Data-World Arkvaes had just come from the Kreios System in the Aurora Nebula and needed some time before he could make another jump of any sizable distance. Inside the bridge of this massive ship still remained four beings.

Kyrian Vox

The Planeswalker was used to the strange effects of Dark Matter Web travel. The other's may not have been so resilient to the strange sensation they all much have surely felt. When a living thing travels by Dark Matter Web their consciousness cannot travel with them through the web, so instead the physical form travels first and their consciousness follows the physical bodies trail afterwards. This separation was what they all felt and Kyrian was sure that at least one of them would be sick in his ship.

He changed the large screen they had been searching the galactic map with and had it now show their surroundings, the stars and galaxies and constellations were all different. More importantly so was the star or in this case stars at the center of the system. There were two stars making this a binary system. A smaller white dwarf star was orbiting a larger middle aged yellow star. "Welcome to the Corvilus System everyone. The only place in the universe one can legally purchase a Voltaic Key. It just so happens that is what we are here for."

Jason and Savi saw a blinding light, then Jason saw the ship. "Right on time," Jason said. Jason guided the air bubble they were in over to the ship, and then contacted Kyrian. "Hey, can you open the door to your left? I'm-" Savi elbowed him in the arm. "Ow!" Jason said, which could be heard through the device he was using to contact Kyrian. "We're back." Jason turned to Savi after turning off the device. "Was that really necessary?" "I want them to know you brought someone," she said. Jason sat down in the bubble and waited for Kyrian to open the door.

((OOC: Grue, let's say that I gave him my phone number. I seem to have assumed that he would have a phone of sorts :/ ))

Lukas got up with the aid of Mae, and then found himself at the threat of Kyrian. Luckily the captain of the marvelous ship didn't attack; Lukas was nothing compared to him. "Excuse my antics; it's just that I had an errand to run," he came up with.

Lukas was antonished by the enormity of the ship. What kind of civilization could create something so absolutely massive? It's technology reminded him of his visit to Misrana. He wondered for a moment, thinking about how Kyrian said he collected data, and promptly asked Kyrian: "Excuse me, Kyrian... Um, never mind." No, he couldn't get himself to say it. He wanted to search in the ship's databanks, find some information on a few things, for the sake of advancing his alchemical research. But he felt that he started off on the wrong foot with him, and he needed to wait until he was a better acquaintance.

Kyrian Vox

The outer door opened at Kyrian's command where Jason and his friend were arriving. He programmed the elevator to go straight to the bridge where the rest of them were.

Kyrian did not dismiss Lukas' statement. He wanted to know what he was asking about. The youth intrigued him with his ability over mortal alchemy and might even harbor his own 'Spark'. "Don't censor yourself, ask what you wish of me." He went up to the screen and began scanning the system for the planet he wanted. He quickly found it since he had been in the system before as well as Arkvaes eons ago. The planet of Corvil Prime came up on screen, a rust colored gas giant orbiting the binary stars. There were two planet sized moons orbiting Corvil Prime, each one respectfully named Corvil Major and Corvil Minor. There were many other smaller moons orbiting the gas giant and even the two larger moons and some natural satellites of their own.

Kyrian pointed at Corvil Major and it came up on the screen larger than before with statistics next to it. "This is where we are going, Corvil Major. Planet wide city and a tendency towards crime make this place easy to get lost in. But before we go, will our two new comers wish to become a part of the crew?" He addressed Savi and Lukas at the same time as he turned on his heels.

Lukas, hearing that Kyrian didn't mind him asking, went ahead and continued his thought: "Well, I'd like to request permission to look through your databanks. Me being an alchemist, I'd want to look around and see what information I can find on things that would advance my own research." He paused for a moment, reading Kyrian's expression before continuing: "You know, I have a library back at my home in Terra. My whole family's research is in it, over 600 years of information on alchemy of all grades and categories. I'd love to invite you once we finish our current objective."

He truly hoped Kyrian didn't mind the request. Something within him urged him to learn more, perfect his techniques further.

Savi nodded. "If Jason's going with you guys, I'm coming with," Savi said. "I think I'm gonna go to the computer room," Jason said. He headed to the computer room, then started creating blueprints on the computer. He typed with incredible speed, making his metal hand blueprints better. "This might take a while..." Jason said.

The Planeswalker laughed at the kid's request, such a simple need for knowledge that it almost reminded him of himself eons ago when he was first learning magic. He noticed Jason going down the elevator to the crew level to check the computer logs and guessed that he too wished more knowledge. "Tell you what kid; You and Jason watch the ship while I and anyone else who wants to come go planet side. Just don't touch the pilot's controls and message me if anything goes awry, and I will let you use the ship's computer logs to your hearts content. After I get back maybe I can teach you a thing or two." He tosses Lukas a small bracelet just like Jason's; Silver and resized to his wrist with a small screen on the underside.

Kyrian went to the pilots controls and activated a scan on Savi and Lukas so they were now registered in the ships crew manifest. Kyrian addressed the rest of the new crew as a whole as he clapped his hands in front of him to get their attention. "So, who is staying here and who is coming with me? If you stay here, don't go to any levels besides 600 through 610 and this level of course is open. If you come with you will get to see Corvil Major in all it's glory.... if it has any left that is."

"It's a deal." Lukas eagerly went ahead and followed Jason to the logs. Once there, we went ahead and ran a search on the Multiverse's flora. He was immediately drawn in, drooling over all the newfound information he could put to use; he would stay there for quite some time, unflinched by Jason or anything else that would interrupt him.

"I'll go, Seeing that Lukas is so deep in his...whatever he's doing." She ate the last of her jerky with somewhat satisfaction, although it was more like leather at this point. "By the way, you're going to like Zephyrus once you get to know him. He has a chest-chest. Also, Lukas is a bit...egotistic at times but you grow to love him. Jason turns into a hothead at times, but he's all right. Savi? Well, lets just say she's fun to not be in combat with." She grit her teeth at the last statement, half-wishing that Jason wasn't so attached to her so that Mae could really show Savi how she felt. Few know the pain of not being able to snap someone's neck out of frustration...

Savi was thinking about what had happened back on Blackrock, when she had created that red energy orb and threatened to destroy them if they came closer. I can imagine Mae hates me... she thought. I had never been that angry before, and certainly never threatened to destroy someone before... Savi decided she would apologize, and that hopefully Mae would forgive her. She walked up to Mae, nervousness in her voice. "Hey, Mae, I- I just want to say I'm sorry for what happened back on Blackrock. I was angry, and I wasn't thinking straight. I hope you forgive me," she said.

"I do have a Chest-Chest..." Zephyrus said without thinking, lost in the moment. It was a... TRANSPORTATION DESIGNATED AS: DARK MATTER WEB. Yes, that. The others seemed discombobulated, did Zephyrus feel the same? It's not as if his mental state would always register a physical response, so he wasn't quite certain. This was only disconcerting because of the nature of Dark Matter Web travel. Zephyrus learnt everything about it the instant it occurred. Did his conscience travel afterwards? Would he even feel his conscience travel if it did? Either way, he couldn't tell if he felt a strange experience. It didn't help that the conscience was a nigh impossible thing to define and designate. Con. Science. Literally the contradiction of what created Zephyrus.

He decided, his voice showing signs of hesitation and forlorn.
"I think-nngh-nk... I will stay. Stay. St-t-tay. Yes, I will stay." His voice became quieter. "Optimal functionality compromised... No use like this..." Now but a whisper, accompanied by the dimming of his spotlight-eyes. "Must be the... A-S... P..."

Zephyrus's eyes shut off, head tilted down and his inner whirring started winding down. He still stood, though without any poise. Zephyrus went into sleep mode.

TARGET DESIGNATED AS: DEPRESSION.

This is gonna be rough.

Seeing as there was only one person going with him he sighed and hoped that nothing bad happened to his ship. It was beyond antique and beyond expensive to fix. Heading to the elevator he signals to Mae for her to come with. "Alright, see you all in an hour or two. Mae, let's head to the docking bay." He activated the elevator once she was inside and sent them to level 800. The ride was short and silent for Kyrian, and they stepped out onto the coldest part of the ship.

Kyrian's breath turned to mist in front of him as he walked around to the docking port door and went through to expose a large carrier ship that they would be using. "The Cryo-storage level needs a big ship to transport it's subjects. We will be moving supplies instead." He strolled right up the ramp and led Mae to the pilot deck. Taking off from the ship, anyone in the pilot's room would see them on the system map heading for the planet.

Corvil Major,High Orbit

The line of ships waiting to dock on Corvil Major was short, but it seemed that Kyrian's ship was by far one of the smallest ones trying to get in. Many were capital sized trade ships the size of an entire sky scraper from the city below. A few minutes later Kyrian and Mae landed on the docking area and walked into the bustling city. "Stay close Mae, and if you see any shop you want to go into let me know." He was looking at a projected hologram map of the city from a bracelet on his wrist, trying to figure out where the closest tech shop was.

Lukas slaved over the computers for hours, astonished at all the things he could find buried in the databases. He went ahead and decided to recreate some of the things he saw, for the sake of experimentation, of course. Or fun. Or both, who cared?

The first thing he did was think "Hmm. I want to see what Mae and the others are up to. Let's see if I can't get in touch." He pulled a small alchemy stone (for he had left the larger one at home) and looked up blueprints for what he found was called a "construct". Sacrificing his spare glass containers, he made a pile of wooden figures; cubes, spheres, pyramids. He then put them together to make a humanoid shape, however odd it may have looked. Next, he crafted a neural interface; set it up to be able to control the construct. Pleased with his work, he continued developing it; giving him a microphone to speak remotely through the wooden man, some clothes to hide his weird appearance, and finally gave him a satchel, with a few vials of Lukas's signature mixes.

He sent the construct away, to follow Kyrian and the rest. He wanted to be with them in person, of course; but he was having too much fun to leave the ship. Hopefully he'd find them; and hopefully they wouldn't shred his creation.

The cryogenic chamber was cold. Very cold. Mae pulled her cloak around her tighter. After entering the pilot deck, she stood rather dazed as warmth began to trickle back into her body. Suddenly, a wooden figure approached them, walking rather crudely. Almost in an instant, her dagger flew from her hand and buried itself in the figure's shoulder. Although it didn't appear to be phased by the sudden onsprawl, Mae was still a bit appologetic. "S-sorry sir. Or miss. I, uh, hope I didn't ruin your...woodwork." She gingerly attempted to pull the dagger from the figure's arm, to no avail. She tried again, using significiant force. "I...must have thrown it harder than I thought." She bit her lip, awkwardly patting the figure above the hilt of her dagger, which was still buried inside of its shoulder. She looked at Kyrian with dismay. "Well?" She whispered forcefully as she nodded to the crude humanoid tree standing behind her. She figured that since Kyrian was a man, he might have strength enough to remove it. She hoped he had gotten the message...

Lukas saw that Mae attacked his creation immediately. OK, not to worry, this was expected. Even though he was still in the ship, accompanying Jason, he felt like he was with Mae and the others. In a way. He booted up his remote control and hoped it would all go through well:

"Don't worry, Mae. It's no problem." The construct spoke with a voice identical to his creator. He pulled the dagger off of his shoulder, and gave it back to her. Lukas knew she'd be spooked by it, so he explained further: "It's me, Lukas. I made this to tag along with you guys. I'd have come in person... but I'm having too much fun." The construct had a very crude head; a large variety of three-dimensional figures attempting to mimic a humanoid expression. It was hard to control, but it was good enough.

The construct then gestured at Kyrian, and said: "Thanks again, Kyrian, for letting me look into your databanks. I've learned so much; I can't feel but I should pay you for what you've allowed me." The wooden entity put a dark-green vial in his hand; one of his family's prized decoctions: a permanently affecting potion. This one was labeled "Camouflage", and would grant Kyrian the stealth of a chameleon, allowing him to dopplegang other entities and manipulate his skin to blend into his surroundings.

Lukas hoped he'd accept his gift, even if he didn't even bother to drink it.

The Planeswalker mainly ignores the proceedings with the wooden golem Lukas made until he was offered the gift. He did not question it and slipped it into a pouch at his waist.

Still sifting through the planet's streets Kyrian comes up to a dusty looking shop and walks inside, ringing an old chime on the door and alerting the alien shop keeper that he had entered. He expected Mae and the golem to follow him inside. Kyrian spoke to the shop keeper in an alien tongue for awhile before he paid him for a small object made of a central spherical crystal wirewrapped with copper and each arm of copper coming off of it had a smaller crystal on the ends. Kyrian sparked magic into his fingers and made the object hover in his palm.

"Well, there it is. One Voltaic Key just as I wanted. Now we can leave unless you want to look around some more, Mae." Kyrian stepped out of the shop after putting his new key in it's case and looked down the busy trade street both ways trying to see anything they might want to check out.

Looking around, Mae secretly wished that she could roam the town, looking through each eccentric shop, but she had no money and had no idea how to speak the native tongue. Plus, she realized she may look like a ditz if she begged him to let her go shopping. "I guess we can go if you, uh, want to." Mae rubbed the edge of her sleeve self consciously. A cool draft filtered through the shabby door. Screaming could be heard in the dstance, but after being on Blackrock for so long, she took no notice of it. She. Reathed deeply, enjoying the lack of dust in the air. It had been years since she was somewhere other than blackrock. She remenbered the day she arrived on that desolate star. She remembered the great battlenof blackrock, and how she was almost killed. She chuckled to herself. Mae was one of three people who knew excactly how that war started.

She examined the voltiac key in his hand. "What excactly does that thing do? "

Lukas, back at the ship, was having a good time. He had conjured up a few toys from the databanks that looked cool, until he ran out of supplies to transmute. Once he was done toying around, he began getting into something serious.

Lukas had hit hard times a while ago. He was getting desperate, and now he had a grand idea; it wasn't the greatest, but it could work. He needed 13 ingredients to create the greatest potion of his family. Something his family could never crack.

The first thing on his list was a demon horn. He began researching how to find, hunt, and kill them on the computer, again immersing himself on the machine. The golem he had sent would still follow the group, but would stay silent. He hoped that the rest wouldn't mind.

When Mae showed interest in the Voltaic Key, Kyrian showed her the small device briefly.

Image

"It transfer's energy through itself and amplifies the effects of magical technology. Made illegal in most parts of the galaxy because amateurs could blow themselves up with it."

With that small piece of trivia finished Kyrian scans the streets for anything interesting and comes up with a small street performer using Fire Magic in the middle of the throng of beings trying to make a quick buck, several food stands and a giant armada of trade ships docking in the skyline's background. He honestly was bored of the planet and just wanted to leave. "Come on, lets head back to Arkvaes. I would rather no trouble has the chance to get started here."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Back at Arkvaes an hour later Kyrian sat in his pilot's chair while everyone else was on the crew levels settling in. He was playing with his Voltaic Key while going over the supplies manifest and found everything to be in proper order. He settled back and drank the last of his coffee of which it was already his sixth cup since returning to the ship. He aimlessly scanned the sensors on the exterior hull of Arkvaes for anything to liven up his day when a small error appeared on the screen. Kyrian stared at it for a moment before shifting his physical form down into the cryo bays. It seemed to him as if something had fried in the circuitry in one of the cryo pods but it was easy enough for him to fix.

Kyrian was glad he currently had Ethorian music blasting throughout the entire ship at the moment, it distracted his mind from the repair work. He had no idea if the other crew members he now had could understand the insect scratchy rabble as words but if they didnt than they could turn off of speakers in their floor and leave the planeswalker to his madness. He fixed the problem quickly and looked at which creature lay inside the cryo pod he had just fixed. It was of course a humanoid, elf like creature. He did not care much as he returned to the crew deck via elevator and stepped out to where the others could see him.

"Alright crew, it is time to assign crew positions. Everyone have a seat in the lounge and we will get started." Kyrian was there in a flash and waited for the others to join him.
