I was just another college student who was just trying to get by and get my degree in history. I didn't know what really I wanted in life and so each day was like the last, and not much change to really influence it. I'd get ready for the day, maybe eat a meal, and then I'd go to my classes. Each day like the last, a repeated cycle over and over with only what friends I had and a few favorite classes to look forward too.

That was until I got to know my archaeology professor a little better. John Templar was his name, a really great teacher, and had this sort of air about him that made you trust him. He would pull me to the side after each class and just talk to me. He was very opinionated and religious, which I have no problem with, but he would go on about I have a great purpose in my life. I had a great purpose for my life? Yeah, right well I knew a few teachers, a land lord, and debt collectors that would say other wise.

One day Professor Templar tells me he has something to show me in his office. I went along because he usually had cool relics he would bring along to class from his past archaeological digs. I thought this was just another small relic like all the others. I couldn't be more wrong. When I got to his office John opens his desk drawer and pulls out this small round object that's shaped liked a big coin, and it's all covered up in old looking rags. As he unveils it I see that it's much more than what I thought. It looked like some strange alien device with familiar Celtic early British symbols, and looked very advanced. It's face was made of glass and had shifting crimson sands that moved as the device did.

"What is that?" I asked. I was astonished the very device was like something I've never seen in my life and had a strange unearthly beauty about it.

"It's called the Druid Hourglass, and it's a very powerful artifact, one that will help you find your true purpose." John said smiling at me and lifting the device up to me as he sat at his desk. "Take it, son. You'll find a good use for it." His voice sounded so sure, it sounded like he knew what he was talking about.

"The red sand in the face...what is that?"

"The blood and bones of those sacrificed to make it. It's called the Druid Hourglass, and just think about a time and place. It can take you there."

I looked at John confused, was this the same educated and credited professor I've been talking too the past few weeks? He looked serious and it made me think that everything the man had been teaching us wasn't supported by any kind of authority anymore. Hell, the textbook he wrote that he made us read could just have been filled with lies. I was about to put the artifact on his desk and leave, but he stopped me.

"Take it. Use it." Was all he said. I rolled my eyes and decided to play along with him. Perhaps he was just playing a game. So I thought about something simple. Wing City twenty years in the future. Surely that wouldn't be to hard for a Time Travel device. It wasn't. By God, John was right! In a moment a bright light flashed in my eyes and I couldn't see. It felt like my body was moving, like I was being stretched and wrung out like a rag. When I opened my eyes I was in the middle of downtown wing city and after finding a news paper I could see that I was thrown twenty years into the future.

So begins...

During the entire ride towards their destination Skylar made it a point to hold on tight to Amariah. His first time riding on a motorcycle and he wasn't all too thrilled by the idea. His mother always said the things were death traps. Guess he spent to much time with his mother as a child because that quote was lodged deep in his head. The easy ride though was a big help.

When she turned to look and smile at him all he could think about was how cowardly he must have seemed to her. Though he couldn't help but give her a sincere smile back as he looked at her own. So he stepped off the bike and gave God a silent prayer of thankfulness in his head for having survived the trip.

"Flashlights, huh? A young man and woman going into a Dark Woods with nothing more than some Flashlights. Sounds like the beginning of one of those cheesy slasher films. You know the ones with the hockey masks." Skylar said chuckling slightly at his own joke.

Skylar took a flash light in his hands and watched as Amariah blinded herself with her own. He didn't laugh long, but it did have a loud opening before he stopped himself. He smiled and shook his head. "If you can see them at all that is." he said.

"I'm not worried. Who said anything about being worried?" he said. "The only thing I might be worried about is seeing those eyes of yours get hurt." Skylar smirked but thought how lame he must have just sounded just then.

He shook his head and followed.

Skylar was surprisingly cool in the environment he was in and he could only credit it to the numerous caves and dark tombs he traveled while on college archaeology digs. His flashlight stayed the course and it was almost as if he was getting a lot more comfortable with both his surroundings and his company.

Looking down at Amariah beside him as they trekked the dark woods, and he gave a smile as he went back to looking straight ahead. That was until the young woman began speaking and his eyes traveled down to look at her and would glance back up every few seconds to make sure he was watching where he was going.

"Wow, i'm really sorry to hear that," he said. "I can't even imagine what that would be like." Skylar looked down at his own feet as said that. He couldn't think of anything to say about something like that expect to give her his own apologies. He could hear her voice and from it the emotional impact the story alone had on her.

"Your mother is a lucky woman, you know?" He said, as his began matching foot steps with Amariah in his own playful way. "To have a daughter like you who cares so much about her. A lot of people our ages...we don't really give any of our parents the respect they deserve at times." Speaking from experience was all he could think when he made his comment.

"Wish it was as easy for me when it came to things like that." he said, looking down the the dark trail they were taking and hoping to see the ruins soon. He was getting excited himself to see the place after how much Amariah talks about her parents.

"You know what's funny though? The way you talk about your parents it sorta reminds me of my teacher. After I went back to my time the first day we met my professor began to tell me who he was. An immortal from the ancient roman era. I wouldn't have believed it myself if it wasn't for the time device he gave me. Though in a strange sense he always kind of a father figure to me so I'm glad he told me."

Skylar sighed and shook his head with a small smile coming over his face. Though it quickly faded and his eyes traveled around and never looked at the same spot for very long. "Never really knew my father. Lived with my mother, but my dad walked out on us when I was real young."

Skylar didn't talk much after telling her about his own father. He didn't want to just talk about something like that, but it just seemed to spill out on his own. He took a deep breath and that would be the extent of his response to her apology.

Though when Amariah fell to her knees he looked down wide eyed and somewhat startled. He reached down to pick her up from the ground and dust her off some. And he heard her voice breath the words that marked the end of their trek.

Skylar looked up and pointed down the trail to see more rubble further along. "Whoa, yeah I guess we are." He said.

"Well I would use my archaeology lessons to figure out what happened here, but it doesn't look like your mom gave me much to work with with." He said, as his natural curiosity finally came out and he began climbing the rubble and ruin and walking the length of the building's outline.

Skylar looked at a few things but it was mostly rocks and pieces of rubble and metal scattered all over the place. It all looked like a dig site that had been treated poorly for a very long time. He would pick a few things up and examine it. Finding remains of various miscellaneous objects like clocks, tools, and other things like that and pointing it out to Amariah.

He would walk a few feet and would see something stuck in the ground. He ran over to it and knelt down in the dirt and began digging with his hands. "Looks like your mother might not have been the only one they experimented on." he said. Unearthing a long dead arm with a plastic bracelet around it's wrist that was too burnt to read expect a few letters and numbers.

"This is just like being at a dig site," he said. "The arm I picked up was a woman's and I think..." Skylar began digging some more in the same area he found the bones of a woman and was almost zoning out. He was in his element all the lessons from class the trips to dig sites came flooding into his head and it was like he was researching the area. As he kept digging and moving rubble he quickly took a step back.

He saw a large group of other remains from various men and women and what even looked like a few children. The bones crushed and burnt and what wasn't had been slightly preserved by the warm, moist, dark woods environment. He than moving a few boxes around to reveal that the area he was in use to be the facilities morgue.

Skylar shook his head and took a deep breath. He was speechless no matter what he tried to say nothing came out. He just looked at all the remains in silent horror. He wanted to lie to Amariah and tell her he couldn't find anything that there was nothing else to look at, but the words just couldn't escape his lips. How could anyone do something like this?

Skylar's knees buckled and he found himself falling down onto his hands with an audible thud. This wasn't like a dig site where the people had been dead for ages this had been an event that happened in Skylar's own lifetime.

Skylar was trying to sort all this out in his head as his hands clenched the dirt beneath him. The find was almost to much for him to think that something like this could have happened to people that were in his life. Even Amariah's touch didn't wake him up and his eyes darted every which way.

The sudden entrance of a new voice though startled him out of his racing thoughts. He picked himself up and saw the gun. Oh my God, he thought. As he got to his feet he grabbed Amariah by her shoulder and began forcing her behind himself.

"We were just leaving," he said. "Here take this." He reached into his pant pocket and pulled out his wallet slowly and carefully. He raised it in front of himself like he was inviting the man to take it.

Skylar turned his head slightly to look at Amariah and he swallowed the lump in his throat. He could see the fear in her eyes and he knew he couldn't let this man take her and that he had to do something. He began putting his wallet back into his pocket.

"Amariah, you like taking pens apart remember," he whispered. "Take the pen apart." That was all he could say to her at the moment. He was scared himself and he placed his hand over his front pocket like he was grabbing his chest, but in reality he was gripping onto the time disk.

"I-I can't move." he said to the man.

The bullet went off and Skylar closed his eyes and the his fingers tore into the fabric of his jacket. His grasp around the time disk was tightened and he could only think about going home. This was to much he only wished that he was back in his apartment or in his professor's office. A different time and place.

That was when it happened a blinding light flashed enveloping both Skylar and Amariah and in a fraction of a second they were gone. Moved by the device to a time of 20 years ago in the office of his professor. Everything was quite and even the ground was different feeling below his feet. He felt the cold blow of an AC unit and the familiar smell of sweet pipe tobacco.

A light cough peeled back his fear and when he opened his eyes he was standing in professor John's office just in front of his desk. His eyes widen when he saw his friendly teacher lighting his pipe for a new smoke.

"Well, looks like you brought back a guest." John said. The man looked to be about thirty-two years old with a good sized beard and his hair cut in a nice clean fashion.

John smiled and shook his head as he began smoking rings from his pipe. "Not to worry, young lady. I just hope the trip wasn't too over whelming. I know how that thing can jump you around." He stood up from his chair and looked at Skylar and raised a brow when he noticed how dirty he was.

"You been playing in the mud?" John asked while taking in a few puffs of his pipe. Skylar looked at himself and gave John a smile while releasing a sigh of relief. He couldn't believe that the time disk just zapped him off like he did he thought he had to have skin contact with the item for it to work. That was when he noticed five finger sized holes in his jacket. His adrenaline must have caused a quick burst of strength that let his fingers rip past the fabric.

"Well, I guess you could say something like that," he said. "Though to be honest it's sorta of a long story." Skylar turned to grip Amariah by her forearm and shoulder. Squeezing her shoulder gently and rubbing his hand against her forearm.

"Are you ok, Amariah?" he asked.

John smiled at Amariah and gave off his own kind of warmth and light that one could literally feel a since of compassion and love from. He lifted his hand up to take Amariah's hand and when he grasped hers she would feel that his grip was firm and very strong. "Nice to meet you, Ms. Conner," He said. "I'm Professor John Titus but you can just call me John if you want."

Skylar pulled the time disk from his jacket pocket and looked at the strange device while the two talked. He still knew very little about the artifact, and if Amariah's life is going to be in danger he needed to figure out what else he could do with it.

"20 years in the future, right? Why you can't be more that 18 or 19 yourself I'd say, so this must be very interesting to travel back before you were born." John said to her while looking her over like a father would look his own child over to inspect if they were all right. "Why I bet you'd like to see more of what the Druid Hourglass can do. Skylar if you don't mind let me have the artifact for a moment."

Skylar looked up at John and handed him the device while stepping back some to be at Amariah's side. John looked at the device with one hand while holding his pipe in the other. "Time is such a funny thing. Being immortal you tend to forget how long 20 years can be for mortals like the two of you."

"Well, yes I can live forever but I doubt I really want to do that. I'm at least over 2000 years old and I've seen and done all kinds of things so far. Have my fair share of children and others people who might be running around today that have my blood line in their vanes. Enough about me though, where would you like to go?" John asked as he took his pipe and placed it down on his desk. "Perhaps Egypt, or maybe ancient Rome, I know a lot of people who said they would love to eat with Leonardo da Vinci." He gave her a smile while messing around with the time disk.

Skylar looked down at Amariah and gave her a nudge with his elbow. He raised his eyebrows playfully and put his hand in his pockets. "Well?" he asked her in relation to John's question.

Skylar's smile faded and his head nodded with the knowing that there was more serious matters at hand. He reached around Amariah and grasped her by her arm on the opposite side from where he stood. "Yeah, I know lets go help them out." he said.

Skylar looked at John and gave him a slight nod. John smiled at Skylar and placed the time device in his free hand. John gave them both a chuckle and gripped both of them by their shoulders and gave them a firm squeeze. "You two are brave and very strong willed, if you need help in the future than you know where to find me. That is to say if I haven't been killed somehow." he said with a light chuckle.

John walked to his desk and opened it reaching into it as if looking for something. "Before you two go how about a little something to help out." he said. John came back to Amariah and placed a handful of metal marbles in her own free hand. "Take these, child. You might find them useful." he said.

Skylar looked at John surprised and his face clearly showed it. He never mentioned to him that Amariah had powers or even what kind of powers she did possess and there was no kind of mention of what kind of danger they were in. John just looked over at Skylar and gave a wink that a father would give to his son around his girlfriend.

Skylar had his eyes closed the entire short trip they went flying through time with one hand clenching the device with all his might and the other arm wrapped around her shoulders. Though when the trip ended his eyes opened to take in his surroundings.

He looked on as Amariah did at all the things she was seeing. The grassy knoll, men walking along a wall, and Amariah surprised by everything she was seein just as much as he was.

Once Skylar was let go of he freely moved about and did a slow spin to look at everything around him. He was unfamiliar with everything and couldn't think of where the damned device had taken them.

"I-I'm not sure." he said. "This is strange I mean...did I think of this place? I've never been here before so I can't imagine I thought about coming to where ever we are." Skylar answered her as he looked down at the device in his hand and stuffed it in his front jacket pocket.

Skylar was growing more concerned as he looked around and was literally thinking of all the worst kind of possibilities as to where they could me. He just didn't get it but maybe Amariah was right, maybe it did pick up on her thoughts. He still didn't know how to use the device too well.

He was pulled suddenly and didn't figure out what was going on until the alarm went off. Waking him out of his senselessness, but only finding that he was running along with Amariah from what he could only think to be pissed off security.

"No! we could be in any year for all we know form the past to the future." he said, pulling the device out of his pocket and looking it over as he ran. "Damn, thing doesn't tell time...Go figure!" He shouted loudly after a deep breath while they ran. Hitting the sides of the device.

The wall looked imposing to Skylar though because this whole adventuring thing was still new to him. But when he looked at Amariah she looked confident and maybe perhaps she was coming up with a quick plan of escape. The only thing was giving him any hope at the current moment. He looked back down at the device in his hand and continued hitting it. Trying to figure out why the device wasn't responding to him.

That was until the explosion that knocked Skylar into the wall the two were standing before. Skylar was almost turned by the explosion and hit the back of his head into the wall with a hard and loud thud. The device fell from his hands first and then his body came down second.

Falling down on top of the device. His vision was blurred and it felt like he passed out for a mere second as all sounds came into his ears like it being funnelled through a tube. He groaned as he tried picking himself and gripping onto the device underneath him.

He heard a cry and looked up only to see Amariah as blur in his eyes. Dizzy and his head pounding.

Skylar watched as Amariah had to rescue him and helped jump the two through time to a safer moment. When it was all done he blinked a few times to see if he could regain his sight, but it was all slow going with that. He did know though that they were safe now and that Amaraih had collapsed.

He crawled over to her and turned her over the best he could with how he was trying to manage his head injury. He would hang over her and shook his head. "Amariah, I'm so sorry." he said. "I don't know what happened." he said.

Skylar looked out as best he could where Amariah and though he could hear the voices he only saw blurs out in the distance. He could tell they were human figures, but that was all he could pick up at the moment. His sight slowly returning back, but his head was still pounding.

He heard her words and sighed a breath of relief and nodded his head. "Great, they can help us." he said. He got to his knees and raised his hands in the air until he noticed the time device wasn't there. He lowered his arms and looked around until he found it laying in the grass and picked it up.

Skylar was easy to take down with his current struggle to even keep balance with his head pounding the way it was. He looked up at Amariah as she hung over his body and could finally see her normally with it all being a blur. He breathed a sigh of relief from that, but what she was saying was concerning.

"Wait? What? Amariah you told me your parents were heroes. Why would they try to kill me?" he asked trying to keep up. His brow creased and looking at her concerned not just for himself but as well as her.
