"You can have whatever you want, I believe they even have pizza and chicken nuggets." Catherine told Parson once they were inside. Eatzi's, as the place was called, was filled with various deli type cases of fresh, chef prepared food ready to have heated to eat there or take back to wherever you were headed. Leaving Parson to his own devices, Catherine wandered over to get herself something to drink and a light snack. Unlike Parson had been, she was perfectly capable of eating food, with some things being more palatable than others.
Parson sipped the soda right away and brightened happily. It was delicious. He squirmed in glee.
"What makes you believe that this Randin fellow will take you in as a charge?"
"No one really wants a boy like that in their homes."
He knew he was kind of weird, but it would mean so much if he could stay with someone who knew the truth. "Would I have to go to school, public school?"
He finished off the chicken nuggets, savoring the taste. Delicious.
Catherine was really his only choice.
"I missed food." He admitted quietly.
He smiled and hugged her, gently. "I'll be a good boy." He promised. "And try my hardest in school." Even if it might eb a little hard.
He hesitated a moment. "The council...they won't kill me will they? Because of Babbit, and me having been dead?"
"I'm glad they won't kill me, and I'll follow the rules."
He thought they might. For awhile.
"Okay, I'm here. What do we have to talk about?" He held his broken arm, in a plaster cast, next to his body, not happy. So fair, the only person who had signed it was one of the guys, who had figured out where Brandon had begun to spend the day, and he had signed it not with a name, but a cartoon rabbit head.
"I aint going to no boarding school." Or school period. He hadn't been in ages, though Babbit insisted he read and write some. "And I'm not going into foster care. That place is bad." Kids had bad stuff happen to them there.
He ought to just take a chance with being mugged, and hope his gang was in good enough shape to keep him out of that trouble. "You don't gotta keep dropping every thing you know." It wasn't like she was his mom. He didn't have one of those.
