Introduction
Sure it took a while to get started but those that accepted this new way of life didn’t even need to consume more than 1/1,000th of the nourishment they normally did. There were skeptics about this but the new law forced them to use it or be sent to prison where they would get one meal a day containing only of one glass of water and a few vegetables. All those that were already in prison were either given the same option to join in The New World or be executed; some prisoners however didn’t get an option and where executed on the spot. It may seem harsh but this was for the survival of mankind, and many decided to take this over the insured punishment they would have if they refused.
Inside this world people at least the age of 16 were given a choice on what type of world they wanted to live in. All those not 16 or older were placed with their parents until they became 16 and were given the choice to change where they wanted to live the rest of their lives. The different worlds ranged in difference from the normal world that they lived in without any change other than the worry of life, to a world where reality itself was more like a dream than The New World they now lived in. One thing no one had to worry about though is losing themselves in The New World since each time they returned to one world or the other they were informed one message or the other corresponding to which world they were entering. The message ‘Now Entering The New World. Please Heed Caution As Needed.’ would be displayed when entering the virtual world. When leaving the virtual world the message ‘Now Entering The Real World. Please Rest Well And Be Sure To Eat Your Meal.’ would appear for the person to see. To be sure these were noticed there was a voice that read this for each person and there was no way to skip the message. Even though there were some people that became lost in the virtual world while they were in it the message they would be forced to see each time would remind them of what was going on.
That was the year 40,719 AD; now it is 41,134 AD and things are going smoothly. Nothing is out of place and these machines never seem to break down. People are able to reproduce like normal (though the exact details on how this happens are not fully known) and their kids are taken care of in the real world until they reach five years of age. They are then placed with their parents in the virtual world. From birth they are transported to the city where one of the two parents live (decided by the parents) and live in the real world with one of the parents starting at four months. They are taken care of by two androids that are lent to each family until the child enters the virtual world. The androids are created to resemble the real world form of the parent they live with and the virtual world parent they do not. Linguistic barriers were still a problem, but this was to add a little bit of realism to the virtual world. In addition each child was taught two languages; one from each parent. It was common to teach the one that they both knew (if any) and then one other that the parents chose.
From the age of seven they were told to choose ten worlds that they found interesting and were to choose two races from each world to start learning about them. In addition to these they learned about other various things that applied to their world and their race in addition to basic skills for lines of work in all these places. From all of these they were to choose where they would live at age 16. Then once they lived there for five years they were given the choice change to another place they learned of. After this they were to remain there for the rest of their life.
