The sound of a pair of brown leather boots against the grey, ice covered cobblestone was slight and subtle. Deirdre Elizabeth Collins could not see her breath in front of her, for it was as cold as the air that chilled the night. She pulled her worn, old, leather jacket closer to her body more out on instinct than for warmth. Stepping down the path between the Delta Epsilon Mu, and Alpha Phi Beta houses she stopped to pick up what looked to be a page ripped from a notebook. Her eyes skimmed over the writing with mild interestā¦
She took in a deep breath before shaking her head in slight disappointment; whomever had scribbled these words seemed to be more than ignorantā¦Blessed. Deirdre thought to herself as she let her gaze turn towards the near-black, star filled sky. Small flakes of white snow, like glistening ash collected upon her eye lashes. There was a storm brewing in those mahogany brown irises; they seemed to be burning with a quick flickering of flame that never ceased. āBlessedā She repeated aloud quaintlyā¦āWhat a fucking jokeā She snapped before ripping the page in two and letting the shards fall once more to the ground to be buried by the falling snow. Her mumbling was barely audible but from the exasperated expression upon her face it was clear to see that something or another was eating away at her. It was nothing new for Dare Collins to be in a bad mood; actually it would seem stranger for her to be in a good mood. There werenāt many individuals who could so much as make her smile never mind put up with her when she was in this fowl a mood. She ran her fingers through her thick reddish-brown tousles of hair as she paced up and down the path slowly and methodically.
Was it even normal for someone to be so upset over yet another birthday? After all, sheād been through so many of them that this one was just a fleeting moment in her long drawn out history. Though that wasnāt what was bothering her exactly. No, it was something deeper than that. Something even she couldnāt quite uncover in her cold un-beating heart. Time for a drinkā¦ She thought silently to herself. Something strong. She added before stepping further down the path away from the headquarters of an organization that weighed heavily on her shoulders. She took a glance back at the Victorian architecture of the snow covered house; it was her sanctionā¦and she ran the place with an iron fist. But tonight it suddenly didnāt feel like home.

āTabby this better be good, you interrupted my beauty sleep.ā Deirdre nearly snarled at the much younger female vampire.
āYazmin is goneā¦ā The young vampire burst out. āShe didnāt come back last nightā¦she always comes back.ā The girl stammered. āI think sheās hurtā¦or worse. I canāt get a hold of her, and I canāt go out to find her. I donāt know what to do.ā The girl rambled.
āWhoa, whoa, whoaā¦Slow down, and rewind. Come in and sit.ā Deirdre ordered, already annoyed by the girlās inability to control herself. She held the door opened and Tabitha entered the room sitting in the antique crimson stair set in the corner of the room by the vanity.
āWhat makes you think sheās missing? She could simply have been enjoying the company of others until after sundown and decided to stay out. You arenāt her mother sheās a grown womanā¦ā Deirdre said with a short sigh attempting to reason with the frenzied girl who was now fiddling with her cell phone.
āDare just listen to thisā¦I wouldnāt have come to you if it wasnāt a true concern.ā Tabitha finally managed to collect herself enough to playback a voicemail sheād received. The reception seemed fuzzy; that wasnāt surprising given the area but the scratching and rustling, and the noise of heavy breathing was definitely odd.
āPlease stop!ā There was a thud, and then a cry of painā¦ A male voice was heard in the background, a male voice that Deirdre recognized. It made the hairs on the back of her neck stand up. āLet this be a warning to those bitches you call sistersā¦ā
The line went dead. And evidently so did Yazmin.
Deirdre stood stunned for a moment before she rushed to the window pulling back the curtain just enough to look into the parking lot. Squinting out and trying to avoid being in the direct sunlight she saw exactly what she didnāt want to seeā¦sitting there was a Harley, but upon it was no corpse. Sheād only heard the manās voice a few moments the night before but it had been memorable. The voice on the voicemail.
āImpossibleā¦I canātā¦ā Deirdreās breath caught in her throat before pushing the curtain back. āLeave! Now!ā Deirdre ordered pointing towards the door and ushering Tabitha out of the room.
āBut Dare!ā
āBut nothing! Out!ā She ordered again slamming the door behind her and letting her back rest against it.
There was something wrong with this situationā¦There was no way she could have changed a man, only females were subject to her venom meaning someone else had turned her victim, and turned them against her and her sisters as well. Until she figured out whom this was she couldnāt allow the others to panic. Fear wasnāt something she liked to instill in her girls.

Within the next few hours dare prepared herself for the party; the other Deltaās all gathered at the Delta house in order to get ready and make their preparations for the night. They would be selecting girls through a process of eliminationā¦Each of them selecting three girls that they would like to take responsibility for and bring forth to the organization. Some would make the cut, and others would simply not uphold the right qualities. Of course they would enjoy their night as well, it was a known fact that this annual ball was one of the only times Deidre Collins was ever truly intoxicatedā¦It was necessary on this night in particular with everything swirling upon her mind. She was already nine glasses of wine deep by the time all her girls had gathered.
āSlow down Deeā¦youāre going to be falling over before you even make your speech tonight.ā A woman joked, though she knew better than to say more. Deirdre would do what she wanted regardless.
āMmā¦would that be so bad?ā Deirdre asked with a slight smirk, before motioning to her back which she was struggling with her dress. āHelp with thisā¦pleaseā The āpleaseā was an added surprise to Dareās demand, as it wasnāt something dare said often. It was only heard when she had a guilty conscience, which she did.
One of her sisters helped lace the back of her crimson red gown; the torso was laced in black and an intricately designed black beading covered the whole gown. She looked like a gothic princess; her hair fell in loose curls over her bare shoulders and a thick silver chain wrapped around her neck with a large red pendent hanging from it.
āWhereās Yaz?ā She heard the question but Deirdre didnāt answer. The room grew quiet and she turned looking over her shoulder at the others.
āSheās not with us.ā She said simply. That was the only answer she would give, and the other girls knew all too well what it meant.
