Two years...

Two years, too long.

As I write this message I can't help but feel the tightness in my chest building as the world closes in around me. The expectations, hopes, and dreams. Indeed the very fate of a nation all claw at the back of my mind as our plans unfold in the here and now. I shouldn't be talking like this, but there are times when the reality of the situation and my vision for how it should be begin to blur. More than once I've raised my voice at the wrong people for the wrong reasons. And once, I even...

I'm left to wonder if I'm I truly fit to lead? Are these the pressures I'm meant to face? The choices I'm meant to make?

If the Gods are real, they truly are cruel beings to force their flock to endure hardships of this nature. Some people like to talk about a "divine perspective." That the Gods see things in ways we can't because our brains can't fathom the 'divine principles' the Gods live by or the 'far-seeing wisdom' which guides their hand... Bullshit. If the Gods see all and know all, then they're fully conscious of what they're putting this nation through. All of the people I've seen, regardless of age, sex, or former social status living in the dirt and mud calling a meager carpet "home" while the Capital City of Valoc walls itself in and everyone within it lives like kings by comparison!

... My pen just ripped the page finishing that sentence.

... I think I need some sleep.

Okay... Now that we've gotten that out of the way, it's time for "The Spiel!"

Welcome to the Revolution.

The Scout who gave you this location for the final step of the process has already told you as much, hopefully, but the Revolution faces the full wrath of the dictator, Egruus To' Veilbrand. The unspeakable atrocities this man has committed against his own people in the name of power and total control are, well, unspeakable. Sorry for doubling what I said there.

Anyway!

If and when you take to the field of battle, you will see death unfold. You will see carnage. And you will see the depravity of humanity laid bare. Not only is Egruus a sick piece of Vei Wolf shit. But so are most within his chain of command. Drunk on power and the rush of seeing their will done, almost as if they're Gods among men, are just... I can't even describe it.

Point being, you're going to see some shit here. And you're not going to like it. If you're lucky, you'll get used to it. If you're not, well... There's a reason I keep using the word "if." A lot of new recruits don't live past training. Egruus and his top tactician, whoever it is, are really good about figuring out where our training grounds are and raiding them. Sometimes we're lucky and we're not there when it happens. We can always rebuild them. But other times. Well. You get the idea.

But don't let this deter you!

This Revolution has won some majorly important victories against the tyrant and his "men." Quite frankly our leader, our beacon of hope, and our shining star, the Maiden of Revolution, has thoroughly embarrassed Egruus and his forces time and again! Take The Battle at Hrothal Fort where the Maiden used a dummy force of stolen Egruus horses and his soldiers dressed like our people and tied up on their backs to draw their cannon fire while our real forces stormed them from the rear! Hrothal Fort was supposed to be impenetrable. The Maiden disagreed with that idea, and once she set her sights on the place there was no chance we wouldn't succeed!

Now, I know what you're thinking. Tying up Egruus' forces on the backs of their horses and stripping them of all their identifying marks and such so they'd take the cannon fire sounds cruel and unjust. Right? Well, that's the way of Veilbrand now, my friend. You've probably seen at least a little sample of this kind of thing back home, haven't you? Someone gets a little too desperate for one more bite of bread so they tell their friend who still has a slice that there's a nice juicy rat in the alley. The friend goes hunting only to find their bread has disappeared. Something like that?

Well, either way it's not a pretty picture. But to win this war the Maiden has had to make a lot of difficult choices. So please don't blame or think badly of her. I haven't met her myself, but it's no secret from her speeches and announcements that her heart beats for us all. If she has to act like a monster to ensure the survival of all who call this nation "home," she won't hesitate to sacrifice herself in that way. That's the kind of woman she is. That's who we rally behind. And that's who we fight, bleed, and die for.

So, recruit... Are you ready to fight, bleed, and die for Veilbrand? For the Maiden of Revolution?!
