Full Name: James Donovan Astair

Nickname: Blade. This nickname was picked up from middle school when he joined a fencing club, he then after school ended up being knifed by one of the older students because he had beat them in a fencing match two weeks earlier, he left the club soon after.

Role: Close combat stealth specialist

Personality: Having been a slightly sporty child and young adult James took part in a number of different clubs, including soccer, tennis, ping pong (which he found a lot more fun) and fencing. It was this fencing that he found particularly enjoyable and stuck with the most, as he found the competitive nature of having someone attempting to hit you with a sabre very interesting. This gave him an edge of survival, determination to fight any opponents he came across which ended up being many, and for one a very large interest into swords.

Around middle school he was often bullied too, usually for his failed attempts to stick with any club, these events often lead him to feel as if he was a failure in life, which has often carried on into adult life, which led him to also feel useless when things start to fail around him. These feelings also passed into his attempts to get a job, after his multiple rejections he was finally given a small out of the way job in a minor company, this only really helped to reinforce him feelings of inability.

As James got older he got slightly sicker and sicker until at age 17 he went to a doctor who then told him to wait for a while and then told him to visit a psychiatrist, after a number of tests and more waiting he was told he was schizophrenic, which was most likely the result of bullying when younger and being assaulted, after learning this his parents made him aware that they wanted to do with him so he moved out into one of his friends flats soon after, the stress of this only helped to make his condition worse. After a year he was put on medication as he was showing symptoms of multiple personalties too, which he only pretended to take. This other personality is a highly violent and sadistic creature that refers to itself by James's old fencing nickname of Blade. Blade is also very highly skilled in the art of killing, or so it likes to boast.

Likes: To be left to his own things, his privacy, wide open spaces, blades, history. Blades likes include: Fighting, manipulation, knife work.

Dislikes: The cold, being ill, not having things go his way, being felt a failure, making mistakes.

Fears: Loosing his humanity from either Blade or the Infected. Public speaking. going put in a small space with a lot of people.

Weapon: A pair of knives which hang from his belt, both of which are completely metal, one which is serrated and the other is just slightly longer than the other.

Inventory: As he prefers to keep on the move and to remain light on his feet (as Blade would most likely just throw useless stuff away) he wears a satchel that has three water bottles in, as well as food, if he can he tends to stay away from perishables if he knows it is unlikely he will be moving through a safe area where he can stop for the night or where he can afford to either eat more or gather such food.

Skills: Fencing and blade skills. Guitar. Orienteering.

Weaknesses: Prone to fits of insanity or wild choices. Is as likely to be Blade as James. Is difficult to be motivated without something that will help him in some way. If Blade is in control then he will have no concern for his own physical safety or care about anyone around him, even to the point of harming them if they get in his way or anger him in some way.

History: James lived happily with his family in an out of the way town for much of his life, making little in the way of friends though elementary school. He lived in a town where everyone knew each other so to be an outsider was something of an oddity, this life style continued onto middle school where he encountered a larger number of people, whilst joining some clubs he was also bullied heavily and attacked a number of times. These events caused him to be detached and also started to cause long term mental problems.

After leaving high school he started to look for a job, which he had some difficulty doing when he was diagnosed with schizophrenia, after a large number of failed attempts he was given a pity job as runner in a small companies building. Having to go into a larger city to get to work would often leave him with little money left over at the end of the month, even so he managed to scrape by.

When the infection first hit the entire city turned into panic, with people running in every direction. James was at work at the time and a number of staff had yet to turn up for work despite it being noon. Whilst on his lunch brake he was pulled aside by one of his co-workers who pointed out someone stumbling along the corridor towards them, his friend went over to see if they were ok when the person attacked them, James ran away in total panic, hiding in a cleaners cupboard, after blocking the door he hid in the corner behind some boxes and was forced to listen as the infected killed most of the company. When the screams had died down James started to think of a way out, after finding a fairly strong piece of wood, which was sometimes used to keep the shutters open when they broke, and using some duct tape stuck two pairs of scissors to the end to make the wood more dangerous and then tried to sneak out. This worked until he got to the fire door where there was an infected stood that showed no sign of moving, before James could try to sneak around it Blade took over and he ran at the infected, knocking it off its feet before smashing its head to a pulp, then kicking open the fire door and running off back to his home. It was night by this point so he was able to avoid most infected, though he killed one as he ran past it. He quickly got up to his flat, grabbed a bag, three bottles and filled them with water, filled the bag with food then headed out. And kept moving since, though he long since replaced the wood with knives.
