When Keith Erickson finally asked out his beautiful next door neighbor, Julia Reid, life seemed all the more worth living when she said “yes”. On the first date he kissed her, and just knew he loved her. They had many kisses and dates since that magical first one, and in August the beginning of their 10th grade school year they had sex for the first time under the stars and she finally said “I love you” back. Everything seemed perfect, except on the drive back home Keith gets hit by a car and flies out the window and died. He was sure that Julia had died too—he was sure he had died in fact. As irony would have it Keith was reborn, usually it would be literally reborn. However it was more like Keith’s soul was sent into a 8th grade overweight boy’s body named Dave Carter who had committed a cutting suicide seconds before and was saved.
He spent 6 months in a mental institute due to the suicide the real Dave committed and now Keith must find out what has happened in the real world, to his girlfriend Julia, to his parents. He feels betrayed by life though, knowing that he’s only "14" and doesn’t even look like himself—Keith. So when he goes back to school as a 8th grader named Dave, Keith realized what assholes people can be to others who look differently. Then when he takes the bus from Tucson Arizona to Phoenix Arizona to see Julia and explain everything no matter how messed up it would be—he finds out she’s pregnant…not only that but dating the popular football jock Bret Smith, did she really forget all about Keith though?
