A Mind Reader drowning out others' thoughts with sweet electric guitar riffs
PERSONALITY-
Aemyleâs got a dark sense of humor. She can be a tad sadistic at times. She makes it a point to stand out, flaunting what little she feels she can do well. Even so, sheâs can be somewhat lazy, and sheâll take whatever shortcuts she can. Her sarcasm, however, is only her way of poking fun, and sheâll only hurt you if you piss her off. Sometimes, if sheâs depressed, though, she becomes very submissive- reluctant to make any decisions for herself. Thatâs when her insecurities show the most.

History-
Kayturin was the second child born to the Arimoto family. She has an older brother named Tadao, born four years earlier. Of course, he retained most of the attention, being the both the first born and a boy- though her parents made occasional efforts to spend time with Kayturin. Tadao, was a bit too busy with his own friends and activities to really pay attention to his baby sister. The age gap didnât help, either. At age five, Kayturin began to experience frequent headaches. She described it as âher thoughts being mean and scaryâ. At the time the parents laughed the description off, but it soon became apparent that the headaches were not going away. In fact, they were getting worse.
Around age six, they caught Kayturin knowing things she shouldnât. These occurrences added up and the parents put two and two together: Kayturin could read minds. They took is as a gift from God- their little girl was special. Most would consider the fact that the parents thought of this as good, well, a good thing. But it didnât turn out so well for Kay. Tadao soon grew jealous of her sudden snatching of their parentsâ attention. He tried to act civil, but that didnât last long. He began to act cold towards Kay, and it only got worse over the years.
When Kayturin was ten he moved on to antagonize her schoolwork and electronics- covert pranks. She never told. She knew what he was thinking, and hoped that if she acted like nothing happened and got the problems fixed herself then maybe heâd back off. Well, at thirteen, he took things a step further. The parents left the two at home alone more often- the kids were teenagers, they could take care of themselves. And Kayturin had kept Tadaoâs hatred for her a secret, not wanting to give him any more reason to hate her. As the parents going out became a pattern, Tadao began to verbally abuse his sister. He tore her apart little by little, and it utterly destroyed her confidence. Kayturin told no one. At this point, if she told, then the parents would give her more attention, and Tadao would punish her even more while they were gone.
Eventually, their parents discovered thin white lines on her arms- a product of the hidden depression sheâd fallen into. No matter how much sheâd insisted she was fine, the concerned parents cared for her even more. She dreaded the next time she would be alone with her brother, and she knew it was inevitable. Kayturin scheduled to go over to friendsâ houses every time her parents went out, and it worked for awhile.
When she was unable to go out, she hid in her room, hoping he wouldnât do more than yell. Time dragged on and his thoughts werenât heard. Fearfully, she snuck out of her room to search for him. Heâd gone out. Breathing a sigh of relief, she relaxed and went about her business. An hour or so later, she froze as the door slammed shut followed by an angry shout of her name. The thoughts that accompanied it were a frightful, slurry mix of aggression and jealousy. Before Kayturin could run, Tadao barged into her room and assaulted her. Her belongings were thrown at her, as well as punches, and that together with such a mental assault of angry thoughts overcame her. That night she was unable to defend herself.
Over the next few days, she did her best to hide her bruises and laid low. Inside she stewed on the horror of her own brother attacking her so. She let him get away with so much, and he wasnât going to stop unless she made him. The disgust grew and her fear gradually turned to anger as it turned over and over in her mind. And when her brother tried to repeat the beating next time her parents went out, she wasnât the same fearful chick sheâd been a week before. She fought back, even if he was clearly stronger she didnât want to submit anymore. Her anger and determination brought to light a new power that night. While she tried to hold back his punch, in a split-second, desperate, push to get him to stop, she reached out with her mind and did something. Like fireworks, Tadaoâs anger overtook him to the point of pain. She didnât let go until he lost consciousness. Scared of someone finding out what sheâd done, and to fully satisfy her current sadistic needs, she threw her brother down the stairs to cover the possible mental damage caused by her assault. ((As per a friends request- the character was originally herâs))
Her parents flipped. To the hospital they went, and found out that Tadao was in a slight coma and that he was lucky that he didnât have brain damage. Kayturin shocked. She had sent her brother into a coma. Of course, he woke up a couple weeks later, with no memory of that night or of the week preceding it. Despite this, Kay could never trust him again. Nor did she desire the constant, now seemingly incessant, doting of her parents. She grew more and more distant, and jumped at the chance to go over to the U.S. as an exchange student.
Itâd be safe to say that her family hasnât seen her since. She didnât come home during breaks, and she saved the money they sent her. Half way through her final year, she ran out on the school. She got a job in the next state and got a complete makeover. Here she honed her meager guitar skills as well as the martial arts hobby her parents had her take up when she was young- anything to keep her mind off of the constant flow of thoughts around her. She found âEmilyâ on her nineteenth birthday by answering an ad âEmily Panâ had put out for a guitarist. Needless to say, Kuroseta made the band and the two became friends.
Since then, âEmilyâ and their drummer, Zakk Clay, are the only ones Kuroseta trusts at all. She knows âEmilyâ is different, as she canât understand the womanâs thoughts half of the time and sheâll frequently catch weird sci-fi like images mixed in with the singerâs thoughts. Even so, Emilyâs kind and at least tries to understand what sheâs gone through. Even Zakk tries, in his own weird way. Despite these friends, Kuroseta feels isolated and bitter. Thereâs no chance of her mental wounds healing anytime soon.
