Introduction
In a government facility hidden deep beneath Skyline City, reanimating the dead was at the head of research. And they finally got it to work. Corpses walked, but that was only the first step. They wanted to take it farther. Their first subjects were mindless and slow. No senses, feelings, or cravings. But as the research went on the dead began to think and feel. Slight brainwaves were monitored and their movement became less robotic. The research was progressing, as was the risk.
The subjects were not fed, and with their newfound instincts and cravings, that was an issue. It only took one bite for a subject to be hooked on human flesh. And it only took one bite to spread the ‘treatment’ into the new host. Before long it got out of hand and the facility was overrun and put on lockdown.
One year later, a hazmat team was called to clean up the mess. Unfortunately, a few zombies had survived by eating the flesh of the others. All it took was a single bite to start over. The infection spread into the city.

Maybe that man was right, maybe we are just a bunch of stupid kids, a small voice inside her said, speaking from the far reaches of her mind. She metally slapped herself. Negative thinking would never get them anywhere.
"Who was she, Andrew?" She asked quietly.

"She...she was my sister." Tessa looked at the body, and suddenly notived the resemblance, set aside the dried blood and decaying features. Tears filled her eyes, she had always wanted someone to call a brother or sister, but she had never let herself think about it too much, he parents had trouble enough raising her, another child would've been impossible. She watched him walk away, resting his head on his knees. She threw her gun to the ground, stared at it for a second, and picked it back up.
"I'm so sorry..." She said, unable to tell if she was the only one who could hear.

Despite all his preparation, the man who ventured into his flashlight didn’t seem like the type to make an enemy out of. He wasn’t particularly large, and while his muscles were well toned, they weren’t overly bulky. No, he had the look of a man who had been in the army, who had seen combat, and spent every waking hour of his life preparing for the apocalypse even before it had happened. He probably even had a bomb shelter under his house. Franko had learned to recognize his type since the infection and the local police forces were forced to work under military command. A lot of military men sported the same attitude, but it was only the veterans who used it well and didn’t get themselves killed with youthful notions of invulnerability.
"I guess you must be taking refuge here,"
The man said.
“For the moment.”
Franko replied. The man walked away towards the entrance, probably to observe the opposing force. He returned after a few minuets. Franko had changed the filter in his gas-mask while he was gone. It still wasn’t known if the Virus was airborne or not… better safe then sorry.
"That gate's not going to hold them forever. I'm not sure I have enough firepower to take on that many, so we're going to have to go even deeper into the subway tunnels. Problem is, I don't know how many zombies are down here. We're going to have to try and make it to the surface, then we'll probably go our separate ways. I have no intention of just leaving that many zombies behind."
“Alright… You take point. I’ll cover your back.”
The pair descended down one of the subway tunnels, twin beams of light pricing blackness like a sharp knife through human flesh. Occasionally Franko looked behind them, panning his flashlight around the single track tunnel, but he rarely saw anything other then a few rats prancing across the tracks. They had been walking for at least an hour, and hadn’t come across a single Zombie…
“They must have left… gone where the food is. Maybe their smarter then horror movies would have us believe.”
Franko walked alongside the man who was, for the moment, his brother in arms. As they continued walking Franko’s flashlight caught the sight of something metallic and shiny. He stopping just outside of visual range and raised his MP5.
“Cover me.”
Jogging forwards at a brisk pace, boots thudding on the concrete between the metal train tracks, his eyes saw the outline of a streetcar.
“It’s a train.”
He hissed back at his companion. Franko looked at the side of the train, praying they could slip past without having to go through the train itself, but there was no such luck. The tunnel had been carved out to fit the subway car exactly, and there was only about half a foot of room on either side of the train. No chance that the two averagely sized men could fit.
“Shit, we have to go through… You want lead, or cover?”

"Maybe, but we can't let down our guard. The subway system is city-wide, and I'd be willing to bet that at least one zombie stayed down here."
Joseph caught sight of something shiny, and he covered the SWAT man as he went to investigate it. As soon as he said that it was a train, Joseph crept forward and gazed upon it. The car seemed to have derailed, and the blood spatter on the windows indicated why. In such a cramped environment, the danger was heightened, but as his SWAT companion pointed out, they had no choice.
"I'll take the lead. You cover my six, and don't forget to take a look at the roof every now and then."
Joseph then turned to the train car.
"I don't know how well these things can climb, but I don't want to find out as they're biting into my throat. Let's move out."
Joseph switched the firing capability on his M4 to full-auto, just in case there were several still on the train. He then boarded the train and began moving toward the door separating this car from the next. Checking through the window, he gave his companion the "all clear" sign, pulled it open, and continued on.
