Introduction

"Like, oh my God you're, like, totally a knight?!"

In a land of myth and a time of magic... Wait, I totally just stole that from "Merlin"... Let me try that again.

In the land of Meridian, there lived a great family of witches and wizards known as the 'Harmans', it is well known that the eldest living child of the Harman is endowed with the strongest magic.

The Harmans have always been a kind and generous family. Although they were first known among the people of Meridian as peasants, after years of loyally serving royalty in battle, they themselves became known as kings and queens of the land.

Many years have passed since that and it is now modern day... In another realm. Sixteen years have passed since a baby girl was born into the Harman family and she was taken away and hidden in our realm for her own protection against her younger brother, who the family's psychic aunt deemed evil upon birth, seeing his future as a cruel king. After many years of fear and anger being shown toward him, he fell into darkness.

Fifteen years later for this boy, he has conjured up an army of orcs and goblins, sending them to our modern day realm to capture his older sister and bring her to him. He plans to kill her and inherit her powers, but one thing stands in his way...

"Welcome to Fairfield High!"

Fairfield High is your average high school, you've got jocks, preps, stoners, gamers, and goody two shoes. Everyone falls into a category and is made fun of on daily basis, and a young sixteen year old boy is no exception to that. He's teased for his lack of coordination and 'nerdy' personality along with his obsession with games. Too bad for him it's painfully obvious he's in love with the most popular girl in school that just happens to be dating the school quarterback. Of course, everyone in the school knows about this and so he gets picked on twice as badly as his buddies, the girl often laughing at him and asking him if he'd do her math homework for her.

One day, the girl was thought to be kidnapped from her home near his and he instantly becomes worried, fearing the worst for the girl, even though she mercilessly mocks him about his affections for her.

Later that night after her disappearance, a young man appears in his room while he's watching television. Oddly enough, this young man is dressed like he just stepped out of medieval times. He instantly believes he's dreaming as the man jabs a finger at him and says, "Well, boy, do you want to save your girl or not?" afterward he recalls the distant sound of laughter as he passed out.

His belief he is dreaming is reinforced when he awakes, drenched with water, in what looks to be a stable, carelessly tossed onto a bale of straw. He quickly spots the odd young man from before standing above him with an empty, dripping pail.

What will happen to the young Harman girl? Will she die and her younger brother become the merciless ruler he was always thought to become? Or will the 'nerd' step up and become the hero he's always wanted to be in video games?

After loping into town upon the back of her grey Andalusian, the blonde girl slid off her horse and ground-tied him in front of the stables, brushing her blonde hair over the shoulder of her brown, worn leather vest over her hunter green long sleeved shirt. Lania more or less threw the door of the stable open, finding Dragoon with his so called warrior holding a bucket, looking the kid up and down, debating whether or not he'd be a decent 'hero', "So, Dragoon 'The Great', this is all you can conjure up for a warrior?" She asked, raising a fair brow at the scrawny looking Ramiro before unsheathing her sword at her hip and going to prod at the straw near him to see how he would react, "At least he's alive. He looks like dragon bait to me." She said, looking amused, "And speaking of dragons, I say we toss him to the one in the dungeons to see what he's made of." She told Dragoon 'The Great', looking at her old friend from many years back. "Where did you find him anyway?" Speaking of him as if he were a stray dog the warlock had brought home.

Ramiro wipes water from his face and looks at the girl who just burst into the stables. He pauses as his brain processes that.
I'm in stables? Yeah, I think this are stables. Where are there stables in Fairfield?
As the girl draws her sword after insulting him, he tenses, then scrambles back from her as she pokes at him.
"Ah! That's not something I want to be poked with!" he yelps. At her mention of a dragon in the dungeons, he tilts his head and stares at her in confusion. "Dragon? As in, a real, living, fire-breathing, people-eating dragon?" he asks.

Dragoon raised a blond eyebrow at the scene that ensued between his old friend, Lania, and the warrior to be, Ramiro. Pushing his hair out of his face, he listened patiently for his turn to speak.

"Yes, Lania. This is the warrior- or, well, he will be. Although he may not seem so strong physically, like you would expect, my elven friend, his mind is strong."

The corner of his mouth twitched into something that moderately resembled a smile at the short debate regarding whether Ramiro should be thrown to the dragon or not.

"Throw him to the dragon and you'll have a bit of trouble picking up those swords, Lania, so I'd advise that you drop the subject." he turned his attention back to Ram. "Yes, dragons. Real, fire-breathing, people-eating dragons." he paused to let that sink in.
"Now, if you don't mind, I'll introduce myself. My name is Dragoon the Great. You may call me Dragon. This," he gestured toward Lania, "is Lania. She is a half-elf, and a snarky one at that. Now, you're probably wondering where you are."

After a moment of thinking, he held out a hand in offering to help the warrior-to-be up from the straw.

"I'm afraid that we are not in your dimension anymore. We are in Meridian. The girl that disappeared from your neighborhood, Myddrin, is in this realm as well, though I fear that she is not in such good hands as you." Dragoon gave a pause for any immediate questions or objections before he moved on.

Ramiro accepts Dragoon's help and stands.
"Dragons. Right. And you're... Dragon. Great. I'm sure that will save many headaches in the future." He pauses to take a deep breath, exhaling slowly. "Okay, Ram, you can handle this. Different dimension. There are dragons. They still use swords. And horses. It's like you got dropped into the campaign," he murmurs, eyes closed. He frowns, then opens his eyes and looks at Dragoon.
"You said I will be a warrior. Explain, please. An overview of recent history and why you pulled me- me, of all people!- over here would also be helpful."

Lania crossed her arms like, 'You ruin all my fun' after putting her sword away during Ramiro's less than brave reaction to her sword and flopped down an another straw bale near a stocky chestnut horse, patting them, a genuine smile flickering across her face for a moment, letting Dragoon speak for a while, rolling her eyes slightly as her old friend called her a snarky half-elf though. It always did take her a bit longer to make friends than others, but eventually she did learn to like things about people and speak kinder to them, "Fine, I won't drop him into any dragon-infested areas." She said with a sigh to Dragoon before he continued explaining things to Ramiro while she silently debated creeping off before Dragoon had an 'brilliant ideas' such as making her a instructor for this 'Warrior to be'. She would snap before an hour even passed, she thought.

"There is only so much I can tell you at the present time, Ramiro, but I will say what I can. There is a wizard, the younger brother of Myddrin, that desires her magical powers for his own. If he were to succeed on his mission to gain her powers, he would be gifted with magic that is too strong for someone so tainted by lust for power and unimaginable evil would fall across the land. I have to mention that he is no mere civilian- this wizard that I speak of is the king and so has many resources, such as a way to steal someone, Myddrin more specifically, from your world." the young warlock paused for a breath and to let that process in Ram's mind.
"Now, to explain why I brought you here. No one from this dimension would be able to halt the wizard's advance. He has a harness on the mind of everyone from this land, and though it is a minor connection, it is enough that he could drive us to near madness. You have no such handicap and so are a grand threat to him. Also, I might mention that you have some knowledge of the enemies we might face. You often played a game similar to our dimension, yes? Well, welcome to the game." He turned to face the direction Lania had gone and his eyes flashed gold. Soon enough, the half-elf girl would find herself drawn (or pulled, if you prefer) back to the stables.
Turning back to Ramiro, he immediately began speaking again. "Lania will be teaching you the basics of combat when she comes back, which I know she will very soon. I recommend that you not wander out of sight of either her or I, lest you find one of the lest hospitable inhabitants of these lands. If you have any questions I suggest you ask them now, as I know Lania is not the most patient teacher." Dragoon fell silent, waiting for any further inquiries.

"So, there's a power-crazed wizard-king trying to take the powers of his sister- the girl who I just so happen to be known for having a crush on- and nobody here can prevent it because if they do the king will use his mind powers to make them go crazy. Because I'm not subject to said mind powers, I might be able to do this. And this world is like Dungeons and Dragons. Actually, that gives me an idea. Have you tried throwing angry cats at him? It's a pretty serious risk for most people in that game," he states.
"Okay, so the snarky half-elf who decided to stab a sword into the straw near me and thinks that tossing me to a dragon is a fun idea will be teaching me the basics of how to fight. Oh, joyous day, how did you know that's exactly what I want." Ramiro pauses to take a breath.
"I'm supposed to fight this king for you. What have we got to fight him with? Also, can he look at what you're thinking?"

Lania had just barely snuck out before she felt Dragoon pulling her back inside. She mentally groaned. She didn't really want to be a part of this anymore, but she didn't really want to be a subject of the psychotic king either. The idea of being a puppet could drive her to insanity, she thought. But couldn't have Dragoon picked a more promising 'knight in shining armor' to save Myddrin?

Just as she got pulled in, Lania turned to look at Ramiro, "Dungeons and Dragons...is a game to your kind?" She blinked, imagining someone throwing other players into a dungeon with a dragon with but a mere dagger to slay it with, or something of the sort. A game, they say? "So you're a dragon slayer?" She raised a brow at Ramiro in disbelief. He sure didn't look like a dragon slayer of any sort to her. She made no comment on the snarkiness though. She should probably apologize for that.

"Uh... Yeah. To both. Sort of. Going by that, I'd also be a god. Except, in reality, it's just a character I played. Most of combat was figured out using numbers and dice- like this one-" he holds up the 20 sided die around his neck so Lania can see, "and numbers. I'm doubt that's what you meant, though it would be pretty handy if it were," he says, shrugging with one shoulder and shooting her a wry, slightly apologetic, smile.

"You played...a character?" Lania was now thoroughly confused by Ramiro, not understanding these things in her realm. Well, perhaps he wasn't stupid then, "There may be hope for you, yet. But don't get the feeling we'll go easy on you." She told him, seriously, "I suppose we'll see what you're made of." She was hoping since he had the slightest idea of what a warrior should be, and could use wit, he might survive a fight.

"Angry cats?" Dragoon clearly didn't get the remark.
He shrugged at Ramiro's second remark, clearly not getting the sarcasm. "I didn't know you wanted her to teach you. he paused. "What have we got to fight him with? Why, swords and magic, of course! What else would we use?" he raised an eyebrow quizzically. "As I said before, the connection is minor and there are many people in these lands. Even if he could read minds, I doubt he'd be able to gather much."

He waited patiently as Lania and Ramiro talked. Combing his fingers through his pale hair, Dragoon sighed. This might be harder than he previously thought.

"If you two don't mind, our warrior has a lot to learn in so little time. We ought to begin." he gestured mildly towards the horses on the far end of the stables. "If you don't know how to ride a horse, you're about to learn, Ramiro."
He turned to look at Lania and nodded, "Your turn, my friend."

"Like a hero in a story, y'know?" he said, then turned back to Dragoon.
"Secret societies dedicated to being as much of a hindrance as possible without any overt defiance are helpful in these situations. And the ability to read minds would mean he knows I'm here and being drafted to fight him, which would pretty much make me a nice, juicy target," he explained.

He stands, rubbing the bridge of his nose with his thumb. He looks where Dragoon gestures and winces slightly. "I don't know how to ride a horse. I don't exactly have an abundance of choices that don't involve learning, though, do I?" he remarks.

Lania made a face. She would be the worst teacher for riding, "You best teach him, Dragoon. I might kill him." She stated, shuddering very subtly at the thought. She had little patience, and where animals were involved, if someone was doing something very stupid, she was liable to lose it. She was pretty sure Dragoon wanted his little person alive, and he probably wouldn't last long with her as a teacher for that, "You know how I am about things like that." She told Dragoon flatly with a shake of her head, petting the stocky chestnut horse from earlier, it's coat shining like copper.

Dragoon shook his head. "Lania, my friend, it is your duty to give him physical strength. It is mine to enhance his mind." turning on his heel, Dragoon exited the stables without another word.

Heading to the edge of the nearby forest, Dragoon took a seat on a rock. A small chuckle escaped him as he imagined Lania trying to instruct Ramiro on how to ride a horse. She'd probably beat the boy over the head. Ah well, it would at least teach him to protect himself from a flailing angry elf. Relaxing on his sun-warmed seat, he began to think about the future.
