"Unit 11, please report your current situation!" The operator frantically muttered as she peered through the horrors vividly displayed on the wide screen monitor that hung high unto the epicenter of the dim lighted room. Spanning from wall to wall, even the eyes of those without words looked in awe at the gruesome scene just waiting to unfold. Fire, that shone so bright, placed itself at the focus of the screen where several patrol cars lay toppled and battered across the side of the road. This was the second strangest incident of night, an unknown phenomenon that could have never been explained in the words spoken by the tongue. For just moments ago, the whole office was booming with calls about auspicious figures in pale white skin leaping from building to building and now a whole squadron of officers lay at deaths door with no explanation shown in the light of the projected images.
"Unit 11!" She yelled louder into the headset tucked in between the folds of her ears. "Please respond, this is HQ!" Nothing was making any sense and it seemed that falling into a state of panic was her last and only resort. It was starting to get harder and harder to hold onto her sense of sanity as nothing but muffled breathing drowned the speakers of the ear piece. "Anyone!" Wanting to ignore the gut wrenching sounds growing louder with each passing second, the frantic woman spoke despite the fear of hearing something unearthly through the other side. "Say anything!"
Frozen in a self induced trance, ever ounce of her body was riddled with the ridged fields of Goosebumps marring the tender skin that she took pride in taking care of. Without even knowing it, the young woman nearly chewed the meat of her thumbs as her pearl white teeth ate away the remaining nails left on the peak of her fingertips. The situation was turning from bad to worse, even the camera was beginning to faded into the black once more and do away with what little intel the small group had on the situation.
Then, from the chaos of the virtual gateway seen through the thin layers of glass, a lone silhouette slowly escaped the embrace of metal that began to tear away the flesh clinging onto the false protection of their factory made uniform. Crawling inch by painful inch, the others in the room who did nothing but watch this poor soul, cast their empathic gaze on their lonely comrade struggling to make it out alive.
"This is Officer Noah." The man nearly fumbled with his words as the fatigue of experiencing a hellish crash brought him down once more onto the pavement now covered in the blood escaping from a wound unknown. Awakened for only a mere moment to share whatever words he had to say, he spoke one final time into the beaten headset stolen from the body of his fallen companion.
"We need back up, those bastards aren't human..." Silent after the last words shared through the device, the young woman jumped from the warmth of her seat and made a mad dash out the thin metallic doors that marked both the entrance and exit of the task forces Operating room.
"Chief! We need to dispatch Erebus on the scene immediately!"
