$15.72 a Gallon

Gas prices reached an all-time high, rippling through the country from both sides.
As the War on Terror takes more lives, as the oil fields are destroyed, gas rockets to $9.65 a gallon.
With no end in sight, it was the lower class first.
They dropped like flies, falling into debt, then living off the streets, ultimately dying like animals in gutters.
Then the middle class was hit.
Fearing for their lives, the people of eastern and western states converged in the mid-West, where gas was cheaper and life easier.
Many people turned to the Amish communities for help, begging and pleading.
The amish people moved further north, away from the clutching, begging hands of the Americans.
As gas steadily rose to $15.72, the elite wealthy beings of the country fell hard.
Suddenly, they started to run out of money, spiraling out of control until they ultimately wound up insane.
Most of them, that is.
The ones who didn't go insane followed the middle class, taking up residence in the mid-West.
With the whole of the American population in close proximity to each other, a new disease broke out.
With a 87% kill rate, the disease efficiently brought the American people to their knees.
Wiping out most of the population, only the strong survived the horrid outbreak.
Now fighting for survival and cut off from the rest of the world, Americans are in the darkest age of their short time.
Can they hope to survive to get word to the other countries...
Or have the other countries been wiped out in a similar way?

Some Basic Rules-
No god-modding.
No Auto-Hitting when fighting.
No cybering (romance is OK).
Read all posts closely to make sure you have all info before posting.
Try to post a lot and have decent grammar/spelling.
Take the signatures OUT of your IC posts, please.

Things to Know-
~Horses are the most common means of transportation once more. Cars are around, but gas is hard to find and gang wars ensue over places that still have gasoline. Horses are also fought over.
~People dont tend to stay in one place very long due to exhausting the resources.
~Convoys are usually made up of ten or more people in several vehicals searching the country for gas and a chance to communicate with the outside world.
~There is no electricity unless by generator. There are no live phone lines, thus no internet. Cell phones do not work either.
~No one has heard anything from another country for five months, when the disease first broke out. Reports from other countries were saying relatively the same thing.
~The beginning of the roleplay starts in Minneapolis, MN.

Dominic Porter slumped over his desk, his eyes glazed over, his breathing soft and slow. Papers spread out before him, letters from the re-invented Pony Express. Letters of gas in places, food stocks, and more. The letters came from his informants he sent to such places. They were all overwhelming for him. He was in Minnesota. The letters came from Wisconsin, South Dakota, Iowa, and Ohio. He didn't have the resources to move out to those places. Besides, he and the rest of the people in Minneapolis lived as a family and bringing all twenty-seven of them to another state, with no concrete proof of food and gasoline, would be tough and stressful. Not to mention they had set up a territory on the river. They had a place to defend.

Blinking a few times, he saw the clock on the wall. It said 3pm. If they were to go to a different state, they would need to move now. Darkness was the best time to travel. Rival groups wouldn't bother a group moving at night. Groups moving during the day were seen as hostile. Grumbling to himself, Dominic stood up, stretching his legs and walking out of the small room of the apartment building. It had taken a long time to get used to living in another person's home every few days, even if that person was dead. Dominic didn't stay in any one apartment or office long enough to be traced. He contacted his informants. If someone needed to find him, they knew how. Find any number of the people in orange and you would find Dominic, at least in a roundabout way.

Walking out of the room, he made a mental note to come back. He took the steps two at a time and walked outside. The street was lined in trash and debris. Shaking his head, he turned in the direction of the market down the street. He passed cars on the way that must have had gasoline, but he didn't care to check. After several years without a car, you learned to walk anywhere for anything. He ran a tanned hand through his dark hair, noting it would be about time to take a bath soon. Smiling to himself, he continued his way down the street, trying not to remember what it had been like when it was alive all those years ago.
