Personality: As harsh and severe on the field as he is warm and generous among friend and family, Orestes is considered an exemplary soldier within the Eudemonian infantry arm, his very nature harkening back to earlier days of Selekusion heroic epics. Fair to his enemies as his friends, Orestes is often considered by more suspicious individuals within Eudemonia as being trusting to a fault, some even going as far to accuse him of associating with foreigners to an unhealthy level.

Abilities: Infantryman par excellence, very good skills with a variety of small arms, previous experience with the operation of support weapons outside of panoply, adequate technical skills, exceptional physical strength due to his size and build.


Bio: Born to Selekized Syriachoi on a Byblos farm during the latter period of Eudemonian expansion in the region, Orestes had a very difficult life growing up, his family constantly plagued by famine as well as the constant bandit attacks on his township. Despite seeing several of his friends and family killed by disease, starvation, or bandits, Orestes’ firm mental constitution allowed him to persevere with the simple honesty befitting a Syriachoi. However, the sweeping changes Eudemonia enacted when they finally invaded and subsequently annexed the province would destroy the traditional way of family of his family, forcing many of them to seek education and subsequent employment while their parents went into a forced retirement due to the incompatibility of traditional farming with the Eudemonian system, and the acquisition of all privately owned lands into the state. Not much for “book learning”, Orestes was faced with either becoming a state dependent, a blow to his pride, becoming a common bandit, equally as bad as the former, joining the allied states against Eudemonia, obvious suicide, or joining the Eudemonian military, a fitting job given his background. After signing up for duty, Orestes served as a Pantodapoi in a local garrison not too far from where he grew up until he was integrated into the main infantry arm as a Pezhetairoi. After conducting a tour of duty against several rebellious groups of Syriachoi and their Trakion mercenaries, he was promoted to a captain in the Kataphraktoi corps in which he took part in several successful skirmishes against brigands and over-ambitious groups of junkers, even going so far as to seize several hulks with his company, providing valuable information in the ongoing war against banditry in the former Selekusion territories.

After some time in the Kataphraktoi corps, his skill regarding his dealings with foreigners were finally appreciated by the Council of Defense and he was subsequently promoted to colonel, and given an advisory position on a committee dealing with the assimilation of foreign tribes and civilized peoples.
