Riel [Finished version, Fantasy]

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Tarmo of the Dusk on Sat Dec 01, 2007 6:47 pm

Name: Riel

Age: 20

Race: Tiralo

Gender: Female

Appearance:

Riel stands at a small 5’ 3”, she is underweight but her body doesn’t show it. She’s also very strong, but for some reason her body doesn’t show it as well. She wears a black mask around her face, it covers her lower face and her left eye.
Riel’s hair is an orange like color, red strips run through it from the bangs to shoulders. Her hair covers a short brow and black eyes which contain a white pupil. Her lips are a natural black, ivory white fangs rest gently against her lower lip from the top of her mouth. An ancient rune covers her right eye, it glows with an odd yellow light when she becomes angry…
Around her neck she wears a rune made of yellow Topaz; it is a symbol of wind and light, Riel’s dominant element. She wears a loose black linen tunic, bound by a belt of ragged rope at the waist and wrists. She has several pouches tied to the belt; they contain her Needles(Explained Later), herbs, poisons, and dried rations. Over the tunic she wears a black leather chest piece, ancient runes elegantly run across the neck protection and chest. The leather is very ancient, dating back to Riel’s Great Grandfather, the leather bindings are newly made from a different leather for the old ones had snapped during a training regiment.
Riel wears shoulder pads made from the same leather as her chest armor, there are two segments to it; The top overlaps the second in an arc, it spans out to 1” from her shoulder; The lower piece is in an arc as well, extending ½” from her shoulder. The pads are bound by light brown leather to the chest piece, the leather straps are new as well.
Riel wears black leather leggings that have plate armor forged onto where the knee caps and shins are, the plate is surprisingly light for its appearance. The plate is held together by leather straps as well, it is flexible as is the leather; ancient runes are imbued within the plate for increased speed and agility. The leather seems to be ‘younger’; as if it was made yesterday. But the fact is, the leggings are older than the chest and shoulder pads. A light brown strap of leather snakes its way across Riel’s chest, on the back it holds a blackened quiver with elegant runes running across the opening. In the quiver several black arrows are held, the tips made of Dragon Scales and bright yellow Topaz. A black bow(More in weapons) rests Parallel to the quiver, held by another leather strap. Another belt of leather lays under the belt of rope, it holds onto the black scabbard of an ancient katana.

Weapon:

Riel’s primary weapon is a black bow; this bow was carved from an ancient dead tree by her ancestors, imbued with the runes of air it can twist the air when the arrow cuts through it. The bow is a deadly weapon for assassinations due to the fact it makes the air around an arrow razor sharp, so even if it misses by a few centimeters the air can wound an opponent severely. Another unique thing with the bow, is the fact it also channels fire; Riel sometimes invokes fire and wind to make a deadly attack which often drains her energy with a single strike.

Riel’s secondary weapon are throwing needles honed to a razor sharp point, they are often dipped in a deadly poison that acts as acid when it touches the skin of an unlucky victim. They are often not deadly without the acid unless they hit a pressure point; causing Riel’s accuracy to be tested in situations she has no poison to use. However; she is quite accurate when it comes to ranged and throwing weapons due to her minor manipulation of the air.

Riel’s third weapon is a katana made out of a golden metal, but having no chemical similarities to gold itself; the blade has runes crudely etched into the flat sides of the blade. The unique factor of Riel’s katana is that it carries a hand guard made of an elegant silver; and the fact the handle is almost transparent. The handle’s base contains a gem of yellow topaz shaped as a rose petal. The Katana contains the ability to warp air itself, allowing the arcing of air into a razor sharp force.

Personality:
Riel is often a loner, preferring to carry her contracts out without hindrances. From a young age she was trained to have no emotion, for it often interferes with fighting and other every day tasks; a common Tiralo belief. She does show minor emotions such as anger and happiness when it is great; but not that often is she a friendly person. Even though she is a loner, she will team up with any person to get what she wants; including a simple treasure. She is a mental controller of some sorts, an ability she uses to give her an innocent appearance to most people.

Short History:

Riel sat in her room quietly, she was eight, her face had a large bruise on the right cheek. Tears ran down her cheeks, cutting through the dirt that had collected on her face from playing outside. Her father had been drinking again, and her mother had locked herself in her room once again. The door to her room swung open and in it’s wake stood her father with a deviate look on his face as he advanced on the young girl.

It was hours Later and Riel sat at the table with a plate of food in front of her but she didn’t touch it, she only stared at it while her father yelled at her mother once again. “I don’t know why I support you to! I don’t know why I married you!” Her fathers voice rang throughout the house and a loud slapping sound was heard. Her mothers crying once again sounded and Riel walked towards the stairs to go to her room, she wasn’t hungry tonight.

Riel sat in her room quietly holding a small woolen Teddy bear, she gently laid her head on the linen encased pillow and closed her eyes. The screaming continued down stairs, she held the teddy closer and pulled the starch white sheets over her head so she didn’t have to hear her father abusing her mother once again. “Why Teddy, why does father act this way?” Riel quietly asked her bear, she ran a finger over it’s head with a gentle sigh.

She slowly went to sleep with the yelling , having grown used to it over the years she had heard it. Her dreams where terrible that night, and she barely slept at all thinking of the earlier event her father had subjected her to.

-------------------------

The day was dim, clouds crossed over the sun as rain began to trickle down from the heavens. The ten year old Riel stood under a golden awning, the store sign fluttering in the breeze behind her. She turned around and entered the store, her orange bangs covering her eyes as the rain picked up pace; lightning crackled throughout the clouds. She stood at the counter, a loaf of bread in front of her as the store keep opened their chest. Riel placed several gold coins on the counter and walked away with the bread, she stepped outside and looked up at the clouds. ~Raining…~ Riel thought to herself, holding her left hand out to the air. ~I’ll have to run between drops…~ Riel took of at an incredible pace, her mastery of wind at a young age was incredible. She stopped at her door and walked inside…

She sat the bread on the kitchen’s cabinet as she walked towards her mothers room. Her hand landed heavily on the door, it swung open slowly and she walked inside to look for her mother. “Mother?” She asked, looking around the room. Her foot landed in something warm, a liquid. She looked down to see a puddle of blood sitting on the floor… “Momma?!” She asked worried, looking around for her mother, she darted out of the room and up the stairs. She looked into her sisters room and ran inside, more blood laid on the floor. “Sis?” She darted out of the room towards her fathers room…

She walked inside to see him sobbing on the edge of his bed, blood stains on his shirt and pants. “Dad, what happened?!” Riel asked, her eyes landed on the knife sitting beside her dad, then to the bodies laying behind him. “We’re alone now Riel, you don’t need to worry anymore…” He said calmly, rising to his feet to look at his daughter. For years he had abused her, and now he was going to kill her. The knife held tightly within his hand, he walked towards Riel; his black eyes piercing her in a cold stare.

Riel darted around him and grabbed something from her mothers side, she turned around the face her father that ran towards her, he swung the knife down at her. Riel quickly jumped to the side, her hand went down in a diagonal movement. Needles as sharp as razors flew towards her father and struck into his side, blood trickled down his mouth as he fell to his knees, dead. Riel ran from the house, covered in her mothers blood as she darted for the village’s leader.

------------------------

Riel was thirteen, chains on her wrist as she stood in the basement of a prison. Her clothes where tattered, the foot steps creaked as a man walked down the stairs holding a piece of paper in his hand. Riel knew this man, he was the store keep of the village. “Well Riel, let’s go, you’re my daughter now.” Was all the storekeeper said before he unlocked the shackles bounding Riel to the wall, he lead her by her hand to the stairs and out of the building. A few months later she sat at a table in the house of the Storekeeper, the hint of mint in the air. A sickly sweet scent entered the room and Riel knew who it was, she turned to glimpse the storekeepers wife; she was a little round at the middle with a child along the way, her face resembled that of a porcelain doll. “Dinner will be done soon, would you mind setting the table?” The woman asked in her sweet voice, she wasn’t a Tiralo; but an outsider.

“Of course mother.” Riel said quietly, walking into the kitchen towards where the plates where kept. She grabbed a few plates and walked towards the dining room once more, she placed them around the table; four plates one for her, one for her new mother, one for her new sister, and one for the storekeeper. A woman older than Riel had started down the stairs, she slowly took her place at the table. She was Riel’s new sister, old enough to leave the house but she stayed to help with the child expected within the next month; she barred traits of the outside and of the Tiralo, her skin was a tan color and she was underweight due to the extensive training she did each day and to teach Riel the ways of Assassination.
The door closed as the Shopkeeper walked into the house and hung his coat on the rack. Riel ran over and hugged him, “Welcome home Father.” She said, the shop keeper smiled and handed Riel a long box tied with a bow. “Happy birthday.” He said, walking towards the table. Riel pulled the bow away and opened the box, inside was a katana in a black sheath. She was fourteen that day, the day she came of age among the Tiralo. She ran into the dining room and showed the Katana to her sister who looked it over than back at Riel, “Maybe I can teach you to use a sword…” She offered, handing it back to Riel.

Riel nodded and took her place at the table, her mother brought in the dishes and the family began helping themselves once they where set on the table.

-----------------------

When Riel was 15, she had her first contract…

The night was dark and stormy, Riel stood outside of the mansion in her blacked armor; black mask tied around her face. She darted up the walls using her minute control of air until she reached the top window; her target lay inside asleep next to his wife. She quietly opened the window and snuck inside, her eyes scanned the dark room for any guards… the coast was clear…

She stepped forward towards the bed, carefully not a sound was made. She reached the side of the man, her dagger poised in hand; she raised it slowly above the mans neck, the squeaking of a rusty door echoed throughout the room… she quickly slew the man and vanished into the shadows to watch the entering entity. A quiet breath was caught in her throat as she realized who it was, a little girl and boy had walked into the room, the little girl carrying a small teddy bear. ~I just killed their father, no no…~ Riel thought to herself, darting for the window unseen by the children.

She leapt down to the garden and vanished into the night, she was filled with remorse…

One she returned to the village of her people she tried to hide the fact her emotions where getting the better of her; she hid inside her home and cried tears of anguish. Her father found her, he lifted her by the neck into the air and carried her downstairs, careful not the choke her… She had committed a crime by crying for those slain in the night. She was thrown out of the door, word quickly spread through the village; she was outcast for one small display of emotion.

For five long years Riel has roamed the plains of a distant land, keeping her heritage from being learned by many…
