Late on a Friday night, detective Megan Ash decides to call it a night and leave the bar where fellow officers throw a few back to celebrate the end of a hectic work week. She enters her unmarked black Dodge Challenger and begins the short drive to her apartment when a call comes over the radio. She decides to respond to a call where a young woman's body is discovered. A few blocks away she stops her unit near a group of police squads with lights flashing. Joining the officers at the scene she is lead to the grizzly discovery. A young woman, clearly raped and beaten, is dead laying face down on the ground. She was wearing a fine red satin dress one would wear for a night out on the town. Two exit wounds on her back from gunshot wounds on her chest more than likely cause of death. No ID's for the victim could be found and no witnesses present. Megan, kneeling over the body, realizes this is the first homicide in Ocean view this year and it won't be a pretty one...not that any truly are but this one looked particularly gruesome. Getting to her feet she she walks around to the other side of the body. Long brown hair hides the face of the victim from this other perspective. Not wanting to disturb the body Megan takes a pen from her jacket pocket and pulls back the hair covering her face. The silhouette of a beautiful young woman comes into view. As Megan kneels once again to get a better view officers gather looking on at the scene.

She squints her eyes not quite believing what she is seeing....It couldn't be she thinks to her self as she tilts her head downward to bring the face into an even better position. She paused for a moment with a disturbed look on her face until one of the officers breaks the silence and asks. "Detective Ash do you know this woman.....?"Detective Ash looks up and turns to the officers and nods. "Yeah......I knew her...." She says and stands turning away from the officers. She runs her fingers through her hair and thinks to herself just how long it had been since she saw Sarah Lang. In reality it had been years since she had spoken to Sarah. State Senators daughter and former high school friend they went their separate ways when she joined the academy. Loosing touch and running in different circles Megan couldn't help but wonder how her life would have turned out like if she stayed close to Sarah. Sarah was always the wild child, that's why she parted ways with her. But in all these years she never once thought Sarah would end up like this. She recalls a cryptic conversation she had just a day earlier with another former high school friend Tim Chant. He was worried about her and hadn't heard from her in days. Well this might have something to do with that. Detective Ash is shaken from thought by the voice of a young officer almost shaking from the disturbing scene. "Detective Ash...mamma...ummm sir....what do you want us to do..." Giving the young officer a stern look more from the shock of finding an old friend murdered more than anything else Megan retorts. "What do you suppose.......secure the area and wait for further instructions. and no need for all of you to hang over the body. This is a crime scene you're disturbing evidence...." She says with a harsh tone. As the four officers scatter, Megan turns back to the body and takes out her cellphone. Finding the number for the chief she doesn't hesitate and dials the number even though it's nearly 1 am.

The voice on the other end answers in a not too pleasant tone. "Ash this better be good." Chief......we have a homicide a young woman in her early thirties was just found off bay street. "Yeah so been a while but you know how to handle these things....take care of it...." He replies in a somewhat annoyed tone.. "Pausing once again detective Ash replies. "Well yes, but this isn't your average victim....." What do you mean Ash?" He asks..."Chief....I'm pretty sure this is Sarah Lang...." This time it's the chief on the other end who pauses." As in Lang.....Senator Lang. "Yes sir." She says with a nod. "How sure is pretty sure...?" Megan looks at the girl once more...and replies "It's her Chief...I knew her growing up....it's Sarah. As much as I would like to think our guys can handle this we might want to get help on this one......"
