After a calamity in their homelands, the people of the Vulai are out to search for new lands. They left in many groups led and protected by their warriors. The story follows a particular warrior in particular and his comrades. They lead a band of people through the Evergreen Mountains, unchartered lands with other peoples. Not all of the foreigners are friendly. The hero however, has a burden on him: The girl he loved isnt an ordinary person and had killed and eaten a group of people he was responsible for. Yet under the trauma and fear, he cannot remember her face or her name, just blurry fragments of that fateful day. He lives with the constant fear that she might return or that he could not face her, because he might still have feelings for her. He often has nightmares of her. His top priority however is to get the band safe to new lands to start anew.

The Vulai are a semi-nomadic people. Their most obvious characteristics are the furs they carry, the patterned clothing they wear and their superb warriors with their specially decorated swords.
