IMMATURITY  /  ESCAPISM  /  LACK OF CREATIVITY

The inner child as represented by the Page of Cups can at times act exactly like a child. While sometimes full of wonder and happiness, they can also fly off into tantrums and into the world of their imagination, leaving all reality behind.

Lilina has always been living in her own little bubble; believing in a skewed version of reality. Constantly living with a false sense of superiority, she carries herself with a specific amount of pompousness reserved only for accomplished mages. Walking around as if she were some stoic protagonist in a novel, Lilina approaches others and often offers her assistance - a good thing quickly spoiled once they constantly hear Lilina’s off-handed remarks of their supposed inferiority. And while Lilina believes in her false personal superiority over others, she tends to over-exaggerate these emotions to cover off her deep insecurities.

Lilina tends to blanket all her negative traits from others (an exception being her delusions). A bundle of emotional insecurities underneath a seemingly chipper and confident individual, she is rather known for her over-exaggerations. Internally, Lilina tends to overthink even the smallest things - becoming a bomb of flurrying emotions ready to explode. Thankfully, the majority of the time Lilina soothes these emotions by falling on her blobs for false reassurement. With all these thoughts, alongside her constant losses during the aftermath of each her challenges against major arcana, most sane people in her shoes would rethink their situation. They would throw away their false senses of grandeur, and live life as best they could. Lilina, however, still desperately claws towards this illusional perfect self she’s created - digging herself deeper into a hole with each time she bounces back to her cheery self.

After temporarily throwing these negative emotions away, Lilina stays with the base Lilina everyone knows and are annoyed with. In first encounters Lilina always shows herself to be a rather nice individual to be around. She has a constant chipper attitude, is rather nice, and as previously described she lends a hand whenever it’s needed. With this trio of positivity, most strangers have a friendly perception of Lilina - until it’s spoiled by her cockiness. And while she’s easy to become happy, she can become deadpan just as fast. Whenever people question things such as if she deserves her ego, Lilina can turn rather serious. While not intimidating (even when she tries), a Lilina with the opposite of a smile is often worrying.

Lilina’s personal magic comes in the form of a simple conjuration; she gives an upwards flick of a wrist and a white blob poofs into existence. In contrary to the spell name, the sizes of these blobs vary - determined by the amount of mana used. The current maximum size of these creatures are the size of a school desk, while the current minimum size comes in the form of a tennis ball. When first learnt this ability, each blob was strictly Lilina’s minimum. Believing the specific size was its maximum at the time, “friends in small sizes” was chosen. The practical applications of these conjurations are to simply be used as cannon fodder, or to be used as Lilina’s de-stresser.

Within a combat scenario their primary purpose - as stated previously - is to be used as cannon fodder. Lilina summons a bundle of 3-5 medium-sized blobs, before either hurling them towards enemy projectiles or hiding behind them. They operate similarly to sponges when attacked with a spell; they soak in the mana of an attack, before drooping into a pool of slime. Currently the durability of these blobs are extremely low, breaking when touched with one attack. Inside the world of a videogame, these blobs would possess one HP.

The secondary purpose is used for soothing. When faced with self-doubt or external criticism, Lilina would often times summon a small blob afterwards, engaging in a one-sided conversation - similarly to a pet-owner playfully talking to their pet, before pretending the responses they give are spoken from the animal’s mouth. Without a strong reality check from others, Lilina’s “therapy” can be quite dangerous when mixed with her willful ignorance. She would pretend the blob is regurgitating her own opinion as a false confirmation - whether it be an objectively good or bad one - to live separately in her perfect little world where she herself is right, with blobs backing her in that world, while the others are liars attempting to knock her down.

lilinahistory

One of five children to a pure blooded mother, Lilina grew under a competitive household. Whether it be Lilina and her fellow diluted blood step-siblings or her pure blooded step-siblings, their shared mother loved each child equally - yet the rivalries still continued. With the pure blooded children this was less prevalent, though with the diluted bloods this was extremely so. Each attempted to seize the most of their mother’s attention, each worried with the thought of, “What if she suddenly forgets us?” This hypothetical forgetfulness never took place, though this was one of the bases for Lilina’s competitive edge - her victory over her siblings growing her ego as well.

Lilina grew as a child constantly wanting to come out on top. The child constantly bickered with her siblings, and often framed them for her own former mischievous behaviour. She originally lived life as the superior (diluted) child of the bunch, enjoying an uncommon amount of affectionate praise from both her parents. This sense of accomplishment stayed with her as she was thrusted into Aurelius Academy at the standard age of eight, believing she will find the same amount of victory as she was accustomed to. There, however, things began to go downhill.

With the prototype version of her current cocky attitude, Lilina held herself at a higher standard over other children. Originally not many brought this up, as they were either too young to understand the concept of a “cocky asshole” or they simply didn’t want to make a little child feel bad. As Lilina eventually grew towards the age of twelve, however, she began to garner some hate. In the beginning this took the form of a few comments towards Lilina - in which she promptly ignored. Noticing how it wasn’t getting to her head, friends became more and more direct with the girl until it progressed into a loud argument. After this first fight, Lilina was left anguished. Eventually finding comfort in her blob conjurations however, she began to feel better. Though to the dismay of others, her same cocky attitude persisted.

Presently Lilina is the same as she was before her first fight: big ego, yet nothing to show for it. She still receives the same amount of negative attention as before - perhaps more - though Lilina has learned to block the majority of it out (whether that be good or bad).

It was four days since the announcement was made - not that it caught anyone off guard. The Biennial Intra-Academy Magical Competition, basking in the glory of its inconvenient name. Acronym didn’t improve it much either; BIAMC, what kind of nonsense is that? Petitions to give it a name that was even slightly marketable were made - alas the headmaster did not care enough to change it. Perhaps Mrs. North got some sick satisfaction of giving announcers scripts with those names.

Not that the name really mattered; it was the content that got the students excited. Or intimidated - ideally both. It was a competition between every student in the school, divided by the suit that housed their Minor Arcana. The Major Arcana were randomly assigned to groups, seemingly without the slightest care for keeping it even.

Students names were posted on the public announcement board; it wasn’t as if every student knew who shared their suit. Also the results for the last exam were there, such cruelty to post both at the same time did not go unnoticed. The Major were just tossed in with whatever group they were with. At least they were at the top so they didn’t have to scour each suit just to find themselves.

The postings for Major Arcana were as follows.

With half the week gone, there was only a few more days before the first major event of the month long festivities began. It had given the teams time to familiarize themselves. They then split into teams within teams. What the actual event would be was unknown, just that they would need numerous teams and be given spots to report to on the day.

As for this day, the sun was shining, the wind was blowing, and self study had just begun. While self study was usually given to students as time to improve personal magic, today it was largely to be used to meet with their teams. Well when I say given to students to improve magic that's the intent, not like anyone ever does unsupervised.

A soft breeze rolled around, the calming blue of the sky filling her eyes. Daintily clouds sailed through this sky, aiming for destination unbeknownst to humanity. What secret plan could those clouds have? A brave girl got into her egg shaped vehicle, wings like a dragonfly on its side. The girl primed it for activation, and soon the time came! However it obviously didn't work. It was a hunk of metal with dragonfly wings! There was no way that kind of weight could be supported by that!

"Where am I..." Liliane softly spoke, the rustling of the grass near enough to cover her words. Using some logic she figured it was outside, and she had not likely left the school grounds. Sitting up from the grass she replayed the morning.

The bright light shining from the ceiling probably had a good deal to do with the initial waking up. She then rolled herself into a cocoon of blankets to stare out at a sideways world. Eventually through sheer willpower the world was made upright. Through yet additional willpower her cocoon was shed, and she began doing morning stuff.

Took a shower, started getting dressed, ignored what Lili was doing and hugged her tight, finished getting dressed, walked outside, remembered it was self study. Was about to check texts but wanted to lay down. Went to the courtyard and found a nice abandoned plot of land. A teacher walking by spoke, smiled and nodded back despite having no idea what they said, watched them leave face in palm. Then sat down. Which would bring us to, give or take, the present time.

Letting out a great yawn, Lili sent some mana into the rune placed on the back of her phone. Mumbling a command the phone drifted and began to hover in the air above her face. Reaching up she tapped around it, a text was received from Charlotte two hours ago. Ignoring the question of who exactly Charlotte was, she read through the message.

“Esteemed Team Members. I have arranged an afternoon tea at the Café Le Fleur to discuss details of our partnership. Please attend at noon sharp. All purchases shall be taken care of by yours truly. I look forward to our inevitable success in the tournament. Kind regards, Charlotte Wynetta.”

Arrive at a cafe at noon, got it. The current time was… eleven thirty. Cool, plenty of time.

Grabbing her phone in as much of a panic as her lethargy could muster, Lili shot up from the grass. She certainly didn’t want to be unnecessarily rude to Charlotte. Thus began what would be called rushing for Liliane but what most people would call ‘walking at a speed that won’t infuriate people behind you’.

At least she wouldn't be the last one there, that group text chat had Atty in it after all.

Lilina woke to a sudden feeling of an embrace. Opening her eyes slowly, she groggily mumbled, "G'morning Lili..." The girl proceeded to wait a few seconds more until her roommate's grasp was taken off her, allowing Lilina herself to begin her routine. Pushing her blanket aside, she went into a sitting position - attempting to mentally push away any grogginess that still lingered within her system. Giving ten seconds to this, Lilina soon stood and continued with her day.

Brushing her teeth, washing her face, combing her hair, and putting on a change of clothes - it all went in a blur, as with any other time. By the time Lilina had chosen the outfit she would wear, both Liliane and her other roommate had already left, leaving Lilina alone. Silently preparing now, she put on a change of clothes and scanned the room; almost as if she were in a hotel, checking if she had forgotten anything. Once satisfied, the young mage exited the dorm and continued on her merry way.

Halfway down the hallway, Lilina felt a buzz in her pocket, stopping her in her tracks. Pulling her phone out of her pockets, she found it to be a text message from Aster. It was an offer for him to pick Lilina up for the meeting, otherwise she would need to walk to the library by herself. Lilina huffed lightly, feeling minor offense towards the kind act. Face scrunched, she quickly up the message, "It's fine. I can walk there myself. ヾ(`◇´)ノ彡" After the slightly angry text, Lilina switched her course from food to the meeting place.

Turning the opposite direction, Lilina began her journey towards the library. Eventually, her agitation subsided and Lilina was back to normal once again. Swinging one the Library doors, Lilina scanned the room for her teammates. There was no Eolande, no Ophelia, and no Aster, meaning Lilina had either arrived early or they had arrived in a completely different area of the library. Taking a few steps within and plopping herself on a nearby chair, Lilina pulled out her phone to text Aster again.

"Heeeyyyy which part of the library are you in? If you've come already."

Today's magical forecast had said sunny with cool breezes, but they failed to mention the tension that permeated every corner of Aurelius' school grounds. It wasn't hard to guess why; today was event day, and it was the first time each suit would get to size up the competition. Whether they were all ready or not.

The event's details had been revealed only a few minutes earlier, and students within each respective team were being divided into smaller groups who would go through the maze. Truthfully, not much thought was put into said groups; just whoever was closest at the time. That made for some very interesting teams, as seen when one group cleared the map and returned to the crowd, divided in half by a blood feud. It did have some purpose though. For many of those of the bottom percentile in their academics, this was a good chance to earn some brownie points with their professors.

Four different starting points for each suit were located in their own sections of the school, but the doors would always lead to a random room. Wands would begin in the school courtyard, using the admin building's entrance. Cups meanwhile had their starting point at the school observatory, on the northern most point of the campus. Swords would be using the gymnasium entrance, and finally, Pentacles with the door to the auditorium. A team is finished when their portal finally brings them to the main teleportation circle in the center of the school.

With tensions high and preparation next to nil, who will prove victorious in today's contest?

#, as written by Soleli
Aster was feeling very much like a Mother hen as he watched over his hoard of team members, most of which were younger than he was. Liliana, one of the sole exceptions didn't instill him with the utmost confidence of a mature voice, so Aster took it upon himself to lead them the best he could. He didn't mind the least, being the eldest child of the Polonius family has instilled him with some sense of commitment to taking care of others, namely his two siblings that were both antisocial for the most part. Aster's efforts mainly came down to trying to get Emilio to get out of the house and make some friends, and coaxing ophie to open up a little more to others.

He managed to get Emilio to attend at the least, after counts of threats and desperate cajoling. Part of him knows that Emilio was simply going for the victory that he will henceforth never stop gloating about, but all in all he was just relieved that his adopted brother even made an effort to show up at group events. Vincent could handle him, Aster was certain. The seven of wands was a passive existence that while Aster can't wrap his mind around admired for being so very composed. If anyone could put up with the presence of Emilio in their group, it was him. Right now all he had to do was concentrate on the task before him, and if there was anything he gave himself credit for it was knocking down obstacles in his path.

Not that he was any good at plotting, that was more Emilio's trait, shrewd and cunning with an eye for detail. As far as Aster cared life was like a series of walls, obstacles to be busted down with the sheer force of positivity and a little elbow grease. The room of levers they were in was no exception. Without even giving a second thought to the repercussions, Aster pulled one down and waited. Nothing. He pulled down another. Still nothing. The room was unresponsive, without much changing around them, and Aster counted 16 levers altogether. He cast a glance around at his other teammates occupying the puzzle room, giving them a one shoulder shrug. "I don't think this is rigged, at least?" He offered. "If it was pick the right lever something should have happened by now. UNLESS, of course picking the wrong lever doesn't do anything to you! Hmm." Aster blinked at the roomful of levers pondering for a second before almost instantaneously turning back with an excited grin. "Hey, wanna pull all of them?"

Before arriving to the room of levers Lilina was unamused, to put it lightly. Aster - despite both himself and Lilina being the same age - took the unofficial leader position of the group while Lilina tailed behind. As much as she would like to tell Aster that she could take over however, Lilina admittedly knew it would only end in disaster. Under her charge the group would likely travel in circles, a result of her poor navigation skills. Thus she kept silent, allowing her group member temporarily lead the charge.

Entering their first room Lilina was already overwhelmed. Sixteen levers, all of them arranged in a neat row for the Cups to see. Each lever could have served their own separate purposes. One could represent a win, and one could go as far as to guarantee death. Narrowing her eyes at the levers she grew puzzled. There had to be a logical way to solve the puzzle, yet she couldn't see any clues. Lilina opened her mouth to ask if her fellow Cups had any ideas, yet just as her was about to produce a sound she heard a slide of a lever.

Lilina's head immediately shot to Aster. Pulling a random lever, Lilina expected something to happen, yet there was an eerie silence. "A-Aster..." she said in a barely audible, broken voice. Unless Aster had already solved the room - which she highly doubted - his act could have harmed them all.

Then another lever was pulled.

Lilina shut her eyes quickly, this time expecting a noticeable change or event to happen for sure, yet there was still silence. Slowly she opened her eyes again and Aster spoke.

"Hey, wanna pull all of them?" he suggested, to which Lilina loudly interrupted.

"NO!" she exclaimed, shaking her head furiously before calming. "One more random lever and it could've been the end of us..."

Lilina's voice trailed as she examined the wall of levers again. We've pulled on two levers but nothing's happened yet, but what does that mean... she thought. There was likely no meaning however. It could've been that it was a trial and error test and pulling on the right lever would lead them to victory. Though it could also be based on combinations; if there must be an order to which the levers were pulled in. Lilina didn't understand the puzzle, yet she understood that they shouldn't recklessly pull levers.

"Aster," she began in a scolding mom's tone, "We shouldn't pull random levers. There's obviously a pattern to all this - I'll show you. The solution is clearly....uhm..."

Lilina obviously didn't know the solution, and she was reminded of this again as the words came out of her mouth. She continued to stumble on her words, trying to find some sort of logical conclusion, or something to make herself sound intelligent - yet she had nothing. Instead, in a low mumble, she continued, "...we'll find it."

Levers, why were there so many levers? Ophie looked toward her tower of a brother, he wouldn’t even be able to reach the ones on the ceiling. Ceiling levers. This nonsensical but otherwise unremarkable room was reminiscent of a nightmare.

It was all rather overwhelming. With no sense of what each one did the idea of using one was horrifying. Merely opening a door was an ordeal and now there was sixteen consecutive unknown outcomes. Of course Aster a couple with reckless abandon to no repercussion. Being in a group came with some comforts, mostly that she could slink into the shadows and try to coast along with them

Ophie nearly laughed to herself, like Aster would ever let her get away without participating. Can’t run to the shadows with a beam of light will chase you down. Using her brother as shield this room would be a piece of cake, she’d muster up some confidence and

“NO!”

Get a fright, scurrying behind her brother. It was just Lilina, who was apparently loud. And saying one more lever could end them. End them? Ophelia began to feel light headed, what did Lilina know that she didn’t?! Lilina sounded so confident and had enough bravado to match Aster in size.

Ophelia tugged her brothers shirt, begging him to lean down so he could hear her meager voice. “What happens if we pull the levers? Did it when you did hurt? Do we lose? If we lose do we get scolded? Will dad be upset? Will we get kicked out of school?”

She probably would have kept going and pulling worries thin despAIR, however this amount level of worry had physical effect. Ophie felt like she was gonna retch into her brothers face if she kept going. Shaking her head and whispering a nevermind, and walking a short distance away to pretend and examine a lever.

For a reason she couldn’t understand, she automatically started breathing deeply. Her very body trying to force her to calm down. It worked, even if vaguely, and with her nerves calming Ophelia checked what Watcher was up to. Staring directly at her with his horrifying unblinking eye, regular stuff.

Once she made eye contact he looked at the lever, then back at her, and so on. The constant looking back and forth reminded her of a funny commercial she saw a few years ago. Even if he was being amusing, feeling comfortable around the creepy eye that follows you all the time was hard.

The novelty of BIAMC had yet to wear off for Alphonse, who'd excitedly greeted Aster when he'd come by his dorm room to pick the blond boy up. Unlike the others in the group who were obviously being dragged along his pace, Alphonse matched his excitement perfectly. The energy the two possessed did not, unfortunately, prove infectious, but it kept their group from being too gloomy.

As they entered the room, it became painfully clear that this was not going to be an easy puzzle. There were numerous levers in various corners of the room, two even on the ceiling, and there weren't any obvious clues as to what order to push them. As he was about to pull the lever nearest, Aster beat him to the punch. Alphonse was about to pull another in response to his question when Lilina's sudden outburst made him pull his hand away as if scalded by the object.

Alphonse looked to Aster for guidance, around the same time Ophelia looked to her brother for reassurance. The more words he heard come out of her mouth, the more frightened he became. "Aster... none of what she's saying is true right?" Blue gray eyes stared up at him, but then soon looked to Ophelia once again as she quietly stopped herself from saying anymore and walked away from the group. His worry was quickly replaced by curiosity when she began getting into a staring contest with the air after studying the lever.

Pulling away from Aster, the blonde approached Ophelia, unknowingly walking right through Walker.
"Ophelia?" He waved a hand in front her face, trying to detract her attention from whatever she'd been staring it. "What are you staring at?" An eyebrow rose in question, but he shrugged it off in favor of the currently more pressing matter. "Do you think we should pull this lever? You've been staring at it for a while now." The ten year old smiled, bringing his voice lower so the others wouldn't overhear. "I'll pull it, and if it's wrong, I'll say it's my fault." Without waiting for her response, he waved at everyone to look his way.

"Guys, I'm going to pull this lever. I have a good feeling about it!" Someone gasped in shock at his audacity, but Alphonse was simply too excited to get them rolling. The moment he brought it down, something did happen. All the other levers in the room reset, which was progress compared to earlier's nonreaction. "Huh, that did do something. Good job, Ophelia."
