Introduction

It is a world of mystery and wonder, an age where great magic and impossible science are the norm, the world is a large place, filled with wonder and treasures from ages past, the technology of today allows for marbles beyond count, from flying fortresses to fully clad power armored knights, this is a world where every mad mechanic or mage tries to outdo his peers, some with disastrous results, this is the world of Oras, a land filled with magic and power, where great armies march with massive war golems and flying ships rain fire on the enemies.

This is a world for the brave and the bold, where gentleman adventurers rub shoulders with mad alchemists, where knights clad in ether powered armor can stop a charging wyvern on its tracks, but as many adventures as there are many more dangers lurk around, only the bold and the daring may survive here, but for those who do fame and fortune awaits, so are you the one that heed the call to adventure?

The explorers league, Full name: "The Arthemian league of exploration and discovery"

The main job of the league is to track and mark new locations where magic geysers are spotted, the geysers are the source of the moist valuable element in the world "Aether shards", used to power everything from weapons to flying ships and power armor, wars are fought over rich geyser fields, the league is a neutral exploration body that finds and marks locations on the known maps witch then are sold in order to fund new expeditions, the league is the place where all explorers and treasure hunters go when in need of coin, since they are neutral they never get into the political or military disputes between countries, the league itself was created over 600 years ago, during the age of advancement, after many years the league finally achieved its revered status, some call it the home of traitors and cutthroats since the league hires anyone looking for a job, highly valued and with much to offer the league is by far one of the best known organizations in all Oras.



ok, magic, well magic in Oras is somewhat complicated, all magic comes from crystals known as "Aether shards", this shards are formed after massive manna geysers erupt around the world and the magic is compressed in deep colored shards, hence the name "Aether shards", all magic comes from this unique crystals, and mages are those who study and practice the art of crafting and refining shards, all shards come in 3 forms;

* Stained shards are low grade magic shards born of geysers, they form the vast majority of magic shards, they come in 4 basic elemental forms water, fire, earth and wind, they can be found in the wilds and are usually around the same power level, a stained fire shard can be used to light a cooking pot for several nights a week or be used as a 1 shot fire burst spell, mages learn how to overload the crystals to obtain as much power as they can from them and use them for spell casting, anyone with basic training can use shards but only a mage can control the power of an all out spell, also shards burn over time, some last a few months others a couple days, depends on how old they are, mages are trained in order to extend the life of a shard to keep it working for as long as possible.

* Refined shards are manufactured shards born of the mix of 2 or more stained shards, mages work the shards and fuse them to get better results at spell casting, by combining many small shards a mage can create a "refined" version, these are much more powerful than the stained ones and allow for stronger spells to be used, new a full spell overloads the shard and destroys it so it's not that common to use a refined shard unless it's an emergency, this shards have a few special skills, they allow the combination of elements in order to create new shards, for example fire and wind make lightning, earth and water make nature, etc. This allows a mage to gain access to even more spells than average folk, this shards are all manmade so they can't be found in the wilds, and being a refined product the life span of each shard is VASTLY superior to the stained variety, all refined shards are measured by the level of clarity in the shard, they range from 10% to 100% clarity, indicating the quality and power of the shard.

*The last kind of shard is called a Pure shard, this are massive concentrations of magic fused into on all powerful crystal, unlike the other kind of shards that can only use 1 specific element, pure shards are made of all magic currents, as such they allow a mage to use any element that they wish, even those from the refined kind, this shards are precious beyond counting as they only appear 1 of every 6000 geysers, making them extra rare, a single pure shard can power everything in a dreadnought flying ship, from engines to guns and lasts for years, this shards are very expensive and are very delicate, only a truly desperate mage would try to overload a pure shard, history shows that those who did paid a steep price for it, the main reason why this shards are so valuable is because in a geyser where a pure shard is formed no other shards of any kind are created and the geyser dies shortly after, so when a pure one is formed nothing else comes out of that geyser for a long time, and in some rare cases the shard awakens an elemental avatar making the extraction of it a very dangerous job.

shards are very valuable since they allow for everything in Oras to work, they are the bullets in the guns, the fire in the forges, the power in our cities, the strength in our power armor, the magic in our blades and hands, every one every where uses shards for one reason or another, but only mages taught in one of the 5 mage sanctums are able to forge and refine shards making them invaluable for adventuring parties and countries alike, some hedge mages can work the basics of shard-crafting but only a real master can forge a fully refined shard with 100% clarity, a well crafted shard can also be recharged, if not overloaded the shards power drops till it can't be used but with some time and the correct spells a mage can restore the power of a burnt shard.

side note: the template for a character would require general info, appearance, basic equipement idea (the setting has a lot of odd weapons so this one is a bit broad just for the sake of what the character likes to use), background, all magic users are submited under the restrictions of the setting.

ok im currently updating the information for the RP, any characters that wish to be submited can do so starting today, im also working on the story and some important bits about it so expect some changes around the rules and intro,, also updated the intro last night.

the upcoming updates will inlcude, magic rules and restrictions, more factions, current important people, races starting with basic looks, further details including weapons and most importantly, rules on how the main power source "Aether shards" work on the world of Oras.

Also any thoughts or ideas are apreciated.
