Night Shrine has been protected by for thousands of years by the Night Maidens.

A family cursed to be bound to the Shrine, the family has always done their duty.

At the age of eighteen, the chosen Night Maiden is given complete control over the guardians of the Shrine as well as the Night Spirit, a power only able to be possessed by those with Night blood.

The guardians are the male descendants of the Night family and are chosen by different Spirits to wield a certain power, whether that may be fire, transformation, earth, etc.

Daughters of the previous maiden who are not chosen to be the Night Maiden are assigned to a guardian and will be his servant until either he dies or she becomes too old to be of use.

It is not unlikely for children to be born from a guardian and his servant and these children become guardians or servants themselves; the children of a guardian and servant cannot become the Night Maiden.

The Night Maiden must give birth to a daughter in her lifetime who can become the next Night Maiden; in the case a daughter is not born, the daughter of the Night Maiden’s eldest living sister will become the next Night Maiden; in the case the Night Maiden does not have a sister, the Spirit will choose a servant it sees fit to control the Shrine.

Of the guardians she oversees, only one will be chosen as the Night Guardian, the Night Maiden’s personal guardian who shall serve her until his death; two hundred years ago it was decreed that the Night Maiden and Night Guardian may not have any romantic involvement as the Night Maiden is to be wed to the guardian who slays the most demons when she turns twenty (keep in mind, this guardian cannot be younger and cannot be older than twenty-five).

Plot

Throughout history, there have been battles between the Night Shrine and the Underworld. Demons from the Drift, a wound in the world where the Underworld and Earth meet face to face, attack and infiltrate into the Shrine. Children of Night, guardians and servants alike, are the target of these demons because they grow stronger when they remove and absorb Spirit inside these men and woman. Sometimes the process of removing the Night Spirit from these men and woman turns them into vegetables, immediately kills them, or returns them to their human forms.

If the guardians and servants lose their Spirit to the demons, the Night Maiden’s power to keep the demons out of the Shrine’s boundaries weakens and more demons can enter the Shrine. However, as long as the Night Maiden is alive, the Spirit of the Shrine cannot die. In the case that the Night Maiden is killed by a demon, the Spirit of the Shrine will die and the land around the Shrine will die; though in the case that the Night Maiden dies with a daughter who is alive, the Spirit will transfer from mother to daughter, though her powers cannot awaken until she turns eighteen.

You are a member of the vast Night family and will proceed with your duties as you wish.

So all in all, the plot is very simple. There isn’t some impending doom on the world, but there will be times in the roleplay when the Shrine is in danger of demon overthrow. While this is a supernatural roleplay, keep in mind that your characters are not invincible, they do need to eat and sleep, and they do have romances. Characters do heal very quickly, though it can take a night or more for larger wounds to heal up.

On the matter of romance, do as you wish. I don’t care if you’re characters are gay or lesbian or bisexual. Whatever makes you happy, do it.

Characters with the * and */** should be looking at this section. This would include Guardian 1, Servant 3, and Guardian 5. Over time, it isn’t unlikely that demons have infiltrated the boundaries set to keep demons out. Sometimes instead of feasting on Spirit, they mate with guardians or servants and a half-breed offspring is produced. The said characters will be half-breeds.

Half-breeds are basically the same as your normal guardians and servants, though they are more susceptible to the 7 deadly sins. In other words, it is more likely for them to steal, have bad behavior, sleep around, etc. They also have a strong connection to the other half-breeds, meaning they are more inclined to be romantically involved with another half-breed than a normal guardian or servant.

This character is going to be matched with the Night Maiden, meaning that this character must be straight. Also, this character is going to be a half-breed, though his case is a little different from most half-breeds. While he is more susceptible to commit the 7 deadly sins, he is automatically drawn to the Night Maiden. The Spirit inside him draws him to her as a guardian, but the demon inside him draws him to her to devour her Spirit.

Basically, more or less, the Night Guardian will press for a romantic relationship with the Night Maiden.
