Unexpectedly , the heat of the area around them began to disappear as if being pushed away. The light as well dimmed considerably and seemingly without rhyme or reason, a dark portal opened in front of the pair, on the other side they could see dark creatures that howled and screeched with extreme blood-lust. The ground itself lacked color, only a pitch-black that went on forever, only visible due to the blood-red sky above it that churned as if it was liquid. It seemed as if a million horrors would spill-forth, but instead a single dark figure fell out and slumped against the ground. Off of first-glance, it was noticeable that it had dark scales, and wings.

The figure seemed weak, as if drained of all energy. Closer-examination would show the stranger to be of dragon-kind, in a human-sized bipedal form instead of the usual monstrous quadruped form that could topple castles and crush villages. The shadow dragon groaned lightly in pain, trying to stand up but obviously failing. Whatever people that had not retired yet watched, some with curiosity, some with shock, but the guards all had the same reaction, coming in to form a surrounding half-circle around the figure, despite his weak state. Just as mysteriously as it had opened, the portal quickly sealed back up as if it had never been there in the first place.
