"I just wanted to know how your tests were," I explained softly, raising my hands and coffee mug in defence. I knew it wouldn't save me from her wrath should she choose to unleash it on me. I stared into her eyes, which matched my own, and smiled, attempting to be friendly. She wasn't the type, at least not toward my own â another fact I was aware of. "I need the results before I turn in a report, and I need the report completed so I don't lose my job or my reputation. And I'm certain there's something I can help you with," I offered, glancing out her window. "Anything you want. Just sit down and have a talk with me. We can do it here if you wish. Anywhere. Out there?" I motioned to the scene outside the window, walking slowly to admire the view.
AveoLife Test Facility was hidden away on the edge of a lake in the middle of a forest. It was bordered by evergreens on three sides, which lead up a steep slope peaked some fifteen thousand feet up in crisp white snow. The other side was a seemingly endless expanse of cold, black water, gaining it's colour only from the grey of the sky today. We were expecting snow soon, and a lot of it. This wasn't uncommon, either. It was mid-November, leading up to winter, and we worried if it hadn't snowed by now.
"Come along, Eaevian. I'll make it happen."
