The girl approached Nate and I, and we both looked up. I examined her and her injured Echo, and the grin I had formed fell. Sync slowly morphed back into his natural form, glowing duller than usual from battle exhaustion; he sat himself on my shoulder contently, holding his head proudly. That was when it dawned on me. I knew I had seen her before, but I wasn't sure where.
"I am so sorry about Sync," I told her, grabbing the bird from my shoulder as I felt him gathering up for another piercing scream. "He's anti-social, I think. And he probably has anger issues. He hurt your Echo earlier in the store, didn't he?" Sync began to struggle, and I held him tighter; but he raged on, even nipping at me until I let him fly off in a fit. "Ow. He bit me. I guess you could say I'm at war with myself.... He's always doing something wrong, getting me into trouble one way or another. I'm sorry." After a minute though, my spark returned. "I'm Venus Valentine; and don't laugh, because it could alway be worse. My middle name is Lucrecia — could you imagine if that had been my first name?"
