He took off at full speed, heading as far away from the village as possible. The smell of smoke hit his nostrils and Orith went into autopilot as his brain switched into flash backs.

A burning cross, the body of a woman strapped to it, it was truly a horrible way to die. In front of the cross kneeled Orith, in tears. Then the image was covered by another, the face of a beautiful woman smiling. "Karma's a bitch." The words echoed through his mind over and over...

Orith snapped out of it just as he plowed down an Imperian. "Sonofabitch!" He continued running, the child bouncing on his shoulder. Three Imperians on horses were following them. Seriously, I wasn't placed here just to die protecting some kid, okay maybe I was but isn't the kid supposed to at least survive? Orith slipped into the forest surrounding the village. The Imperian's horses would have a harder time maneuvering in the forested area.
