Emily woke with a start. It was just after sunset, and there was life teeming everywhere. She tuned out the ambient noise and heard barking in the distance. Crud, they were coming for her again. And this time, they had brought dogs. Still, it wouldn't make a difference. She had escaped numorous times before. But when she ascended in her tree to get a better look, her heart sank. There were four...no, five groups combing the forest surrounding her old home. This worried her. Five groups would easily find her. Emily descended to 20 feet, where the cover was thicker and she could jump down without harm to herself.

She was so preoccupied with blending in that she didn't notice the vampire coming from below and behind her. The vampire grinned, and loaded a small tranquilizer into his gun. He took aim, and fired, just as she turned to see him. She fell out of the tree, crashing on her back with a thud, out cold. The grin he wore turned into a smile of satisfaction. He had been hunting her for the last 10 years. Such a human would sell for at least 75,000. Maybe even more. His mouth watered at the thought. He blew a small whistle, and his teams assembled to him.

His orders were short and simple. They were to bind her and take her to his car. He would handle it from there.
