Mr. Zed's Classroom - Personal Power Class
First Period
Time: 8:20 am

Victoria was a bit worried as the tension in the air seemed to increase. But she became even more worried as she heard Mr. Zed address it.

She could feel the air in the classroom get hotter - extremely hotter - at a rate that didn't quite make sense. Her mind automatically chalked it up to another students powers, and it was apparently the powers of a student by the name of Jason. The one who could control fire.

There was a large commotion in the room, and Victoria found herself slowly backing up and away from it. It appeared the other students were scattering, and Mr. Zed, of course, was approaching the situation to try to get a handle on it.

But Victoria just sort of blanked out, her legs shaking slightly. She didn't know what to do. She couldn't really tell what was going on, simply because she could only see everyones outlines. She was already loosing track of who was who, as her eyes flicked back and forth between the different people who had become involved.

But almost as quickly as it had started, she heard Jason apologizing for his behavior. She sank back into her seat, her legs still trembling slightly, as she stared ahead of herself, an almost blank expression on her face. She let out a few shaky breaths, her hands clutching at the sides of the desk as she tried to calm herself down. It wasn't often that she didn't feel in control, but when it happened, it was more than frightening to her. In her mind, her disability made it harder for her to react to situations like others did. She didn't truly know what had just happened, only that it had everyone on edge.

But Mr. Zed seemed to roll with this, as he always did.

"Yes, we can speak after class," he began, nodding towards Jason, before moving around to look at the rest of the class.

"Actually, we should work with this. Right now. We can finish our introductions up quickly, but from there, I have a perfect idea for a lesson - we'll work on what I had planned for today tomorrow." One other students spoke up - a Fly Phoenix - and as she sat down, Mr. Zed clapped his hands together.

"You've got a pretty awesome name and power, I'll give you that," he said to her, before turning to the rest of the class. "Alright. Time to start what I've recently decided will be our new lesson."

He moved to the front of the room. "I want everyone to move the desks to the side of the room. Just put them wherever; I'll move them back after class. I want you to find a place in the room where you feel most comfortable. It has to be somewhere where you can sit down."

He took a seat on the floor at the front of the room as the students stood up, moving the desks. Victoria moved her desk over to the side, before sitting down near the teachers desk, back resting against it cool metal surface. She glanced around, her mind a bit more calm than it had been before, noting where people were sitting.

Mr. Zed continued to speak. "I find that the simplest way for students to begin to control and understand their powers is to center themselves. Many times in our lives, we just keep going without really taking time for our minds to relax and rejuvenate. Sleeping doesn't truly do that for us, because our brains are still working just as fast when we sleep. But I've found that meditation really helps in the first stages of becoming a master of your gifts. This even applies more so for mutants than it does for regular people off the street." He grinned, looking around the room.

"There isn't any specific way you have to sit for this exercise. My most comfortable position is sitting with my legs crossed 'Indian style', and my hands resting in the middle of them in a diamond position, with each of my fingers touching." He demonstrated what he was talking about, before continuing. "I relax my back, and regulate my breathing. The key is to concentrate on your breathing at first. I'm not quite sure how many of you have meditated before, but I'll guide you through this."

"Some of you may feel a bit more connected with yourselves after the first session, but for some of you, it may take a lot longer. Some of you may feel something you can't quite explain, but in time, you too will understand. But, now that everyone has taken a spot, lets start."

"Find a position comfortable to sit in... Something you won't fall asleep in, but something that will ease any physical pressures you may have put on your body. I want you to try to push all your thoughts from your mind. Erase your worries. Forget who you are for a while. Concentrate solely on my voice, and breathe in slowly from your nose. Hold that breath for a moment, and exhale through your mouth. Repeat that process, over and over. Push all bad thoughts from your mind. Push all good thoughts from your mind. Simply exist."

He continued his small speech, until even his voice was quiet. It seemed that there was almost no noise in the room at all, save for the small murmurs outside the classroom. But even those couldn't be heard by the students who were in their own little worlds of silence.

Victoria sat in her meditation pose, her mind almost completely empty. The one thing she was concentrating on was the static that seemed to play in her head. But when she heard Mr. Zed speak up, she seemed to come out of her 'zone'.

"Alright. I hate to break into your meditation now, but class is almost over. We're going to stop here for now. I am going to assign you homework, but I promise it's easy. All I ask of you to do, is to find a meditation position that is most comfortable for you. And I want you to meditate for as long as you feel necessary, but no less than 10 minutes. Then, write a small journal entry about how you feel afterward. Journals can be found on the last bookshelf in the back of the room. Grab one before you leave..." He paused, standing up from the floor. "Class will be over in 5 minutes anyway, so you can all talk for now..."

Victoria stood from her position on the floor, before making her way back over to her desk, tentatively. Her eyes glanced around the room, before she went to the back and grabbed a journal. There was one set on a separate shelf just for her. One that was "softer", so that her writing would show up on the pages as indents - that way she could read what she had written. The lines were also raised so she could see how she was writing. It was things like these that make school life a bit easier for her.

Making her way back to her desk, she sat, glancing around the room at the other students, before pulling out her schedule, and running her fingers across the braille letters that spelled out what her next class was. Music...

Mr. James' Room - Health
First Period
Time: 8:10

Veronique scowled slightly as Mr. James passed out a quiz to the rest of the class, but her scowl turned more into a glare as she watched another student walk out of the room - and that glare became even more of a pissed stare as she put together that Mr. James wasn't doing anything about it.

"Why the hell does that kid just get to walk out of here like he's something special..." she grumbled to herself.

But she looked at the quiz all the same, determined that she wouldn't be shown up by anyone in the class.

She read the questions to herself, marking her answers next to them.

Name: Veronique Wolfe
Date: September 6th
Class: Period One

Answer the following questions to the best of your ability. This will give me a general idea of your knowledge for the first unit we will be concentrating on. Each answer or blank is worth one point.

1. What are the top five leading causes of death in the United States, in order of first through fifth?
Smoking, Heart Attacks, Car Accidents, Pneumonia, and over consumption of alcohol or drugs.

2. What is the "Good Samaritan Law"?
The Good Samaritan Law is when you have to help any injured person as best as you can. If you don't do that, you can be held responsible for whatever happens because of your actions.

3. What is "Implied Consent", and how does it apply to situations when a person is in need of medical assistance?
Implied consent is consent given by the person who needs help but cannot directly ask for it. Example: If a person has passed out on the floor, and you ask them if they need help. They can't answer you, because they passed out, so its implied that they give their consent for you to help them. Because honestly, nobody at that point wants to die. So of course they'd give it anyway...

4. Should you ever move an injured person?
No. Because you could hurt them more, especially if there is internal bleeding, or if they have broken bones.

5. What is an ABRASION? Give an example.
When skin is scraped, but there is no bleeding. Example: Scraped knee.

6. What is an INCISION? Give an example.
A straight cut in the skin. Example: a cut during surgery.

7. What is a LACERATION? Give an example.
A laceration could be a cut that isn't straight... Example: Glass?

8. What is an AMPUTATION? Give an example.
When a part of your body gets cut off. Example: People in wars get their arms and legs amputated to help them stave off infection.

When you are finished your quiz, please turn it over and sit quietly so I will know you are done.

Veronique yawned as she flipped her quiz over, and Mr. James came around and picked it up off her desk. When everyone had finished, he handed them back out, and Veronique frowned at the red markings on her quiz.

"Alright," Mr. James began in his monotone drone. "I'm going to go over the correct answers."

"The answer to number one was: Heart disease, Cancer, Stroke, Chronic lower respiratory diseases, and accidents or unintentional injuries."
"For number two, the answer was: a law that says that you must preform CPR or First Aid to the level at which you are trained or certified. If you fail to do so, you can be held liable for any bodily harm caused by your actions."
"Number three was: Implied consent is the term used when a victim is unable to grand permission for any reason. If that has happened, consent is implied. We'll go over this more when we take notes in class after I go over the answers..."
"Number four was: Yes, and no. You should move an injured person if they are in danger of further harm, like fallen wires, fire, or explosives. But you shouldn't if there is no apparent danger, they have broken bones, or a spinal injury."
"The definitions, in order, are as follows: When the top layer of skin is removed with little to no bleeding; like a scraped elbow or knee... Cut skin that tends to have a clean straight edge; like a surgery cut, or a straight razor cut or a papercut... Cut skin with a jagged edge; like a cut from glass... When an extremity is completely or partially removed from the body; like from a war, or household appliance."

Veronique grimaced a bit, before looking down at her quiz, not quite satisfied.

"Alright, now we're going to take notes."

With a groan, she got out a notebook, and got ready to take notes. Almost as soon as they were done, she heard the bell go off, signalling that class was over and that it was time to move onto second period.

"Alright kids. Have a nice rest of the day. Don't forget to study harder and remember what you learned today..."

Veronique rolled her eyes as she gathered her things and made her way off to second period: European History with Mr. Klien.
