Below the deck of the ship, in the bedroom in which Alice Hampton had remained for the vast majority of the voyage, a girl sat at a desk, a book laid open in front of her, an iPod sitting next to it; the headphone cord snaked up the girl's pale neck, the headphones burrowed in her small ears. Short black hair swept down around her cheeks down to her jaw, and dark brown eyes were gliding over the words inscribed on the pages of the book. Around the room behind Alice Hampton, she had relatively few belongings that she had seen fit to take with her. In a corner at the wall was a violin case, and near it a large bag bursting at the seams with as many books as she could carry. If she was going to have to go to this island, then Alice figured she might as well bring along something to do--because she sure as hell didn't intend to find someone to marry at age sixteen.

The thought brought anger boiling to the surface yet again, and Alice nearly slammed the book as she suddenly stood bolt upright and began pacing around as she often did when something was on her mind. This was another of her parents' stupid schemes--particularly her father's. Alice was sick of the man and his little ideas. If he thought he could completely reject Alice as his successor simply because she was a female and then expect her to go along quietly to marry some other asshole, then he was dead wrong. If Alice had wanted to find someone to love and live with, then she would do so on her own damn time--and even then Alice had no intention whatsoever of getting a 'boyfriend' anytime soon. The last thing the girl needed interfering with her goals in life was some dumb guy up in her business all the time.

"Tch...." she scoffed irritatedly, shaking her head, allowing the anger to cool away. No one said she had to find some kind of 'match' or whatever on this island. If all went well, no one would see much of her, no one would really care to see much of her, and she would leave the island having read quite a lot over the past few days and having definitely met no 'match'. Her only regret would be that she would be separated from her good friends for all that time now. Who else was Alice going to speak with in Portuguese or Russian?

With a sigh, Alice continued pacing around the room, wondering where Evelyn was. Probably up on the prow of the ship looking at the sea--he would certainly enjoy looking at the waters. With an inward shrug, Alice turned and walked out the door, navigating through the ship's corridors and stairs to reach at last the deck of the ship, where indeed, at the front of the ship, the figure of Evelyn Hampton stood. Alice walked up until she stood a few feet behind him, and spoke into the silence, "Enjoying the view?"
