The first glance of Kolob would show it was still mostly natural but the colonists had been careful to only build what they absolutely needed and use the land in the best most "green" way possible so though they did have large buildings they tended to be built inside a hillside or even a few buildings in the nearby mountain range. Their settlement was still small only recently nearing the thousand mark. So they didn't need much space. They had the "government building" with offices, a courthouse, and other meeting rooms for the president and other leaders. Then their was the huge defense force compound build inside the nearest mountain with huge areas for the mechs, ground control, barracks, mess hall and other essentials. The settlement had a lot of low buildings a police station/fire. The energy station. A church, a general store and even a small restaurant that one of the settlers had built. All the houses were a reasonable size and all had different styles suited to the owners but built well and efficiently. All homes had basements and a geothermal heating system and all the power that didn't come from the solar panels, came from wind and water energy. There was a huge damn and reservoir near the settlement that provided the whole place clean water. They had also come up with an ingenious sewage system and cleaned and recycled it for other uses, like fertilizer. though it may not look sleek and modern at first glance it was built with preservation of the planet in mind and for maximum efficiency. So the settlers were proud of it

Once they were ready to go down in the shuttle Tasha stood. "I will want to pilot my own ship down, so you can follow me down to the landing pad." The landing pad was actually a natural rocky outcropping that they had covered in concrete so that it would not break down with the extreme stress from landings and take offs. There was a tower to guide them in and plenty of room for many large ships almost the size of a 747 to land on it. Though because of their technology they didn't need a runway to take off they did have enough space if they needed one.
