Morkori HeinMorkori stood up and placed his hands on Morinth’s arms. She appeared to be rigid and tense, more than he had ever seen her.
“Benny! I thought we could trust you!” Morinth cried out in rage. She tried to lunge herself at Benny but Morkori held her back. Her body jerked back as Morkori steadied her in her place.
Benny sighed and looked back up at them,
“He knows everything about you two already. He only asked me if you carried a sword on you. I told him what I knew… which was that I honestly didn’t know.”Morkori looked at Benny with a dangerous look, but quickly let it go.
“Well, I’d hate to cut this short, but we are going to leave.” Morkori spoke as he let go of Morinth. He strolled towards the door and opened it.
“You… didn’t know…” Morinth whispered to herself.
Benny just looked up at them and spoke,
“I’m sorry guys. It looks like he’s onto you more than you thought.” he paused and gave a sigh. Morkori just stood at the door with his back to him.
“Want my advice? Get the hell out of here before he finds you. Stay on the road, but don’t go in any clear direction.” Benny added.
Morinth walked up behind Morkori. He could feel her soft cold hands wrap around his right arm. He turned to look at her, but her face was covered by her hair as she stared down at the floor. Morkori gently led her out of the small backroom. They left Benny behind as they made their way through the shop to the front, just before the doors.
Morkori stopped and lifted her chin up gently with a finger. He couldn’t smell her to see if she was scared or angry. As he looked at her, he only saw fear in her eyes.
I wish there was something I could do… for her… something to take her fears away forever. He thought.
He pulled her close to him in an embrace. Her head naturally tucked under his chin as their bodies pressed together tightly for comfort. Morkori didn’t show an ounce of fear, but deep inside him he could feel this emotion stir. It was as if to clear it away, he said,
“Don’t worry. Benny is just a coward by nature. I will kill Daiske before he ever touches you.” He felt Morinth stir under his chin and her faint voice trickled out.
“I don’t know why I thought coming here would help. I just want to go home Morkori… right now…” she whispered.
He could feel her hands tighten their grip a little on his back underneath his tan leather jacket. For a moment, he couldn’t believe that the strong woman he had originally met a few months back could ever be so fragile and weak. From what he knew of Daiske Mikata, you never crossed paths with him unless you wanted to die. Not even members of his clan, the Kami, would ever raise a fist against the vampire Oni lord. Daiske wasn’t just some big shot, he was the real deal.
Daiske, before he became a vampire, was once a very respectable Lord during the feudal times of Japan. He was well versed in battle and strategy, but his luck ran out toward his later years. He died in battle and rose as a vampire a few days after his death. It was the pivotal moment in the world, a monster reborn, which can not die unless you chopped him up into pieces… if you could even get that close. The reason why he died in the first place was a mystery to Morkori. It was obvious that Daiske learned from that experience enough to avoid letting others get close to him.
I just got to find a way to kick his ass. Morkori thought as he pondered on his thoughts.
