There was a sharp tap on Dr Joyce's office, which made her jump and put the file down quickly.
"Enter," she said, trying to compose herself, surprised as the guards entered. "Is 0000 still running around?"
The lead guard shook his head. "He is with Dr Mikail."
Of course, thought Joyce. He liked to be in the thick of things.
"Then what is it you want?" she said coldly.
"The Dr requests....."
"There is a team of doctors in the labs," she said, her tone strict and icy. "I am in my office processing. Use your brain man and go there."
The guards looked at one another carefully, then left in search of others. Of course, she should have gone with them, but she saw her development as far more important than testing a new subject. She was the lead on the child called 4666. She had no intention to of letting him down.
"Wha.... what's going on....?" came the voice, and she spun to her monitor to see Louis begining to wake. She wished he had slept longer. when he slept, Mikhail couldn't make them do as many tests, in theory anyway. At night they often pumped the subjects full of chemicals.
Grabbing her clip board and key-card, she slipped from her office and went down to the small cell, grabbing a tray of breakfast as she did.

Wrath, real name Louis, number 4666, rubbed his eyes sleepily as the door to his cell slipped open and grinned when Joyce appeared.
"Steph," he said with a sleepy smile.
He didn't like he other doctors, who spoke in clipped tones and called him by his number. Steph always called him Louis, or Wrath. He didn't mind Wrath, though he thought it more Raph like Raphael, his favourite Teenage Mutant Turtle. Steph let him watch this sometimes, when he was good.
Louis knew that he was sick, very sick. That was why he was in the hospital, with all these doctors. He could do strange things that he hadn't been able to do, but he guessed it was like X-men, some people had funny gifts that happened when they got to a certain age. He knew that x-men was a Tv show.
"How are you feeling?" said Joyce gently, proffering the tray to him.
"Sore," said Wrath. "I don't like all those needles."
Joyce nodded. "I know, but they're good for you."
It broken her heart when he nodded, his trusting face looking to her for guidance. Joyce could have told him that he could jump from a building and be fine and Wrath would believe her. Maybe he needed to believe her. She needed to believe the lies.
She watched him eat his food, the tap of the spoon the only sound between them. Once finished, she took the try.
"I'll be right back," she said, taking the tray from the room.
"Dr Joyce?"
She looked up to see one of the guards, another thug for the Fate Facility.
"Yes?" she said coldly.
"We are to take 4666 to the labs."
"He's only just awoken," she said, dismissively. "Turning from him."
"It was not a request."
She turned to say something to him, when she saw 2 guards go into Wrath's room. They brought him out, one arm held by each guard.
"He's only just woken," said Joyce, protesting and trying to get to Wrath, who's eyes were wide, looking to her for reassurance. "Let him digest at least."
"Stay back ma'am," said the guard, turning and accidentally knocking into Joyce, who had been trying to follow and stumbled against the wall.
"Don't hurt Steph!" shouted Wrath and suddenly the floor began to shake.
Joyce looked at it, then at the guards. He was trying to bind something to him, and the only things attached to him was the floor and the guards, who were trying to let go and screaming. The floor was protesting but she knew it wouldn't last long. Soon the guard would be mangled.
She saw the leader raise his gun.
"Wrath," she said quickly, pushing the gun away and moving in front of the leader, crouching down and opening arms and smiling at him. "It's okay. I just fell. I'm alright. Come here."
Her tone was sweet and gentle, despite the room shaking and the screaming.
"Wrath, come here."
The room began to calm, the guards pulled themselves from the grip of the boy, staring with disbelief at their hands, red and sore. But Wrath didn't notice. The room stopped shaking and he ran into her open arms, feeling safe as she lifted him like a child.
Joyce knew this was against protocol, but she would get away with it. When it came to Wrath, no one could get him to do what she could.
She turned on the lead guard, her eyes narrowed and her voice venomous.
"You nearly killed two of your own men," she said. "What is your name?"
"Benton," he said, standing up straight and trying to look like a man who knew only how to take orders.
"Benton, I'm guessing you've not been here long, so let me make this clear. You do that again and I will lock you in with Fear."
The guard took two step back. She paused and turned to glare at the other two guards, who shrunk from her sight.
"Go to the room 6c and get yourselves sorted out, and make this a lesson," she said, walking boldly with Wrath in her arms, curled safely, walking toward the lab.
It was hard to know who was scarier. Wrath might accidentally cause problems, but it was obvious that Joyce was a woman not to be messed with. The look she had given Benton, he believed she would do as she said.
