I was tripping and tumbling through the forest, often reaching for trees for support. He walked gracefully through, though, dancing around things that tripped me, and avoiding all dangers. When he said he hoped I knew how to climb, I became worried. The last time I had climbed anything was before my dad had died. I considered using my knife to help, but I don't imagine that would please the man much. I hesitated, waited until he reached the top, which was sooner than I expected, and then tried to climb the tree.

I wrapped my arms around the base and pulled myself up. It wasn't until I was a few feet off the ground that I noticed worn spots on the trunk. I let go of the tree, fell to the ground and pull off my shoes. I put them in the bag and then placed my bare feet in the worn spots. I didn't have the best grip, but managed to climb the tree to the top where his house stood. Made of bamboo. And leaves. I became very nervous.
