Looking over her shoulder at the boy on the floor, Melanie couldn't help but feel a great need to get away from this Derek. She felt in danger even standing close to him. I've got to go see if that kid is okay, she thought, quietly breaking from the group. Hoping Derek wouldn't see her walking away, for she had no idea what kind of punishment he would lay upon her, she slowly backed away. The group hadn't gone far, so she re-traced their steps back to the boy. As she approached him, she suddenly thought about the repercussions of her decision. No, she thought, If I get in trouble, I will just tell Headmisress Macleod what has happened here. Bullying shouldn't be tolerated. Kneeling down next to the boy, she asked gently "Are you okay?"
