The strobe lights in the club flickered uncontrollably as the sweaty bodies pressed against each other in rhythmic motions. The third intoxicated body of the night stumbled across Jarett Drache's path and the rowdiness returned twice as hard. A hard shove got the man of his shoulder and he had enough. Taking his last gulp of his drink, Jarett pulled away from the bar, navigated and dribbled through the oblivious crowd and towards the exit, where the sharp air of the cold autumn night clung around him.

His bloodshot eyes, redder than ever complimented his disheveled look, stained clothes and all. Still high from his last joint, Jarett walked down the road, pass numerous groups of murmurous people and towards his apartment 12 blocks away.

By the time he reached, he was sober enough to pull out his keys and find his way up the staircase. He was sober enough to feel the tiresome ache in his legs and the glare of the morning sunrise.

'12 blocks. Jesus!'

It was the high pitched screech of the television that woke her up. Aimée jolted up the second the wail started and desperately searched for the remote control in the dark. Amidst a knocked over bowl, a number of tattered book and other small miscellaneous items, she finally found the gadget and switched the television off. The moment the screen blackened, a jingle of keys rang out and she heard soft scratches of a key being inserted into the key hole- or rather in attempt of being inserted.

Pulling herself of the lumpy sofa, she dragged herself to the front door, 5 feet away from her slumber station and yanked the door open. Jarett flooded in, just as drowsy-looking and waved pathetically as he passed her.

"G'morning." he moaned and disappeared into his room.

Aimée ran into the bathroom, washed her face and pulled open every curtain of the house, leaving out the ones in Jarett's room and retrieved an apple out of the refrigerator. At that very moment, she made a decision to run. She was not someone who did run often. Actually, she never did but she felt like she should. Maybe something was telling her that she should, but either way, she did.

Exactly 4 minutes later, she had her old sneakers on, though they were not the ones suitable for running, and on the street pavements, feeling the morning air feel her lungs. Whether it should or not, it did not change anything. A small frown still hung on her lips and a large one filled her heart as she raced down the road.
